Brakes or air vectoring to make a maneuver, which seems more likely. Brake some so it can maneuver faster. Though really to work like it should have, the other one on top should have opened, to slow it on the starboard side so it would pull the speeder over away from the AT-AT faster.

Honestly, that shot pointing out how maneuverable the AT-AT can be makes me think Disney really missed an opportunity with the Battle of Crait, where they could've used CGI to demonstrate their agility a bit more. (The could've also added AA guns to the sides and rear but that's a separate design issue), instead of going for a rehash of this that somehow comes across as less impressive despite having so much more tech to work with.

To be fair some of the things actually makes sense. Air brakes would be on the speeder’s bottom as well as to help with controlling it. The guys on the flanks would be watching their areas rather than the front, especially since the rebels used binoculars for finding their targets. Also even if you don’t get directly hit, the blast does affect you, and if you are running with a heavy pack and weapon it doesn’t take much to drop after losing your balance.

They actually do add a lot of this kind of used universe details for the Resistance stuff in the Sequels. It just somehow just comes across as sanitized anyway. You can't fault the set and FX guys for any of the Star Wars movies, it the directing and writing teams that let things down. The FX and production techs put way more thought into things than anybody actually in charge did. Same problem in Blase Runner 2049, it comes across as cleaner than the original despite some parts being literally set in a junkyard.

Tauntauns eat fungus that lives in the various ice caves. You can see in a few games the Rebels brought some hey for them to eat too Those flaps on the Snowspeeders allow them to slow down the craft and even drift. Basically the flap catches the air and if it's only on one side it pulls the speeder to the side and let's it turn, if both sides catch then it slows the speeders.

@@bucketmanpalemin9603 Yes, they're omnivorous. Unlike their natural predator: Wampas, which are carnivorous. Can't remember if anything else preys on them. The only reason for that dead one in the Rebel base is because the Rebels didn't realize that there were Wampas wandering the corridors at night and sometimes preying on the domesticated Tauntauns. The Rebels spent 2 years constructing Echo Base on Hoth and it took that long for them to discover the Wampas. The only other reason the Wampas weren't detected on the sensors is that only military-grade sensors can detect them. Otherwise, Luke and Han would've detected them while scouting and laying out the sensors and Luke wouldn't have been captured by one.

0:36 Sometimes in combat, even if an explosion hits nearby or misses you, you could still be startled in a adrenaline-induced state to while retreating/running in the direction you're going. That Rebel, who probably did or didn't die, was probably running with a clear line of sight in his mind. When the explosion went off, it probably rattled him to the point where his reaction was to change direction immediately which resulted in him tripping or falling down. Putting too much focus on what he was trying to do, and then immediately having to change the mentality of it all due to a sudden explosion was probably why he fell down. Or the explosive force from the blast was probably bigger than what we saw onscreen and pushed him down. Who knows?

When I see close calls like 9:45 still result in the guy tumbling to the ground, I usually think like "well, if I had a human sized blast of crazy-space-laser-energy go right by me and slam into the ground ahead of me, I'm pretty sure my eardrums would burst and my equilibrium would be thrown off enough for me to stumble while I'm running." I do agree about the next guy around 10:30 being a blunder, though.

@@TheRyujinLP It's also conceivable that a laser blast of that magnitude passes through the body instead of dissipating upon impact. I kinda took it for cucussive damage. The shot right next to the guy that collapses a few steps later could well be explained that way. It's like getting hit from a grenade. Unless the grenade is specifically designed to send an even shrapnel pattern (see pineapple grenade) most grenade kills are because of the pressure wave overwhelming organs and nerve function. Pure inertia and (I forget the exact word for it) the secondary brain in the spine that lets you react before your main brain processes the stimuli would have kept him going for a step or 2.

I remember seeing this for the first time as a kid when it came out. I thought one of the coolest shots was the one of the Falcon leaving Hoth and Luke glancing over his shoulder seeing it go by. It has nothing to do with the story, but it just seems so realistic. Luke hears a ship that sounds completely different from all the others, so turns and sees it's the Falcon. Or else, he actually recognizes the sound of the Falcon and that's why he turns to watch it leave (although not sure how he'd know what it sounds like from outside the ship). There is a story behind the dead tauntaun. It was killed by a Wampa. Originally they wanted to do a subplot of Wampas storming Echo Base. They shot several scenes of rebels falling back in corridors and shooting up at something big. They couldn't quite get the Wampas looking real enough tho thats why it was cut and why they never actually showed the Wampa in the orginal theater release of ESB. It is still canon however that Wampas were in Echo Base from "Star Wars Forces of Destiny" and a deleted scene from ESB where C3PO rips a warning sign off the door (same door from "Forces of Destiny") and then snowtroopers try to open it. The Wampa grabs the first one and the next one quickly closes it as Vader walks up and says "Everything is under control, sir." 😂

Another very cool sena from the movie that was cut is the scene where Han , Leia and C3-PO are running away , in that sena a room had the aforementioned creature , there was a sign saying danger , but C3-PO took it out , and then 3 snowtroopers blind to raid the doors when they open a claw captures one of the soldiers (who releases the famous Wilhelm Scream) then the door closes and the two other soldiers only hear the chewing sounds.

4:50 those are cardboard cut outs sir 😂 Seriously to anyone watching go check out how they made these movies You know shrapnel doesn't always have to be metal it can be anything from rock, ice, and sometimes even air can blow you from the point of the explosion. So the guy that fell could have been in the radios of the beams impact. Sorry been watching too much Mythbusters

That dead Tauntaun scene may be part of the Wampa attack on Echo Base which was not used in the movie because they couldn’t make the Wampas look real enough.

Getting movie extras to perform repetitive yet simple tasks is extremely difficult for some reason. I understand the “recoil” problem as just getting an extra to “walk normal” through a shot is sometimes hilarious and often frustrating.

Here's some information about that comment you make, the man running when the blast that doesn't hit him, but kills him anyway. Lasers are super heated beams of light and plasma. When it hits snow and ice, it instantly vaporizes most of the frozen stuff, but not all of it. about .5% of the liquified water instantly turns to back into ice on the Hoth's extreme -50`c or colder weather. Considering that those ice shards are traveling faster than a bullet, he was running into a could of flying deadly shrapnel with out a face shield. Those micro shards of ice could have penetrated the skin of his face and killed him.

I love tauntauns! They're like a kangaroo-lizard-ostrich that talks like "Rabble rabble jishook ratta." What's not to love? Anyway, the dead tauntaun was part of a deleted subplot of Wampa ice creatures sneaking into the Rebel base. I also saw in a book, I think it's called "The Wildlife of Star Wars, " that Hoth has geothermic caves and the tauntauns feast on various lichens and mosses which grow in them.

Great video. My all time favorite scene in all of film history. I noticed to fairly glaring errors (at least to geeks like us who may notice them) that you didn't mention. 1. @ 3:14 of the video, in the background of the troops lining up in the trench, there is a burned out gun turret that is clearly smoking. But, the battle hasn't even begun at this point in the film. 2. @ 9:22 (the shot you and I both love). The guy being blasted in the heel and stumbling as he runs. If you notice, he has run between troopers sitting at Tripod guns facing AWAY from the battle. Away from the oncoming walkers. The guy on screen right became painfully obvious to me once the Blu Ray came out. Wow. How the hell did they miss that!

I'm not criticizing you for not knowing this and many people say the same thing about some grenades and explosions but the sudden air pressure resulting from blasts and explosions like that can be like a bolder hitting your chest, shattering your ribs into your lungs and heart with such force you can drown in your own blood or die from your heart being impaled even if you're a good distance away. That's one reason why bomb squads have those huge pads around their torso, to dampen the blow. Love the content!
