Hey! I can't pin this comment due to a contractual obligation with the brand deal attached BUT I wanted to come here and apologize for the lack of research done in this video, I ran with my prior knowledge of the authors comment about harry and from comments i've been reading what i've learned is that the author had to change the race of the characters due to publishers not wanting to pick up black love stories. Harry styles is a very small part of her marketing and i was completely wrong for running with that misinformation. To everyone who has already seen the video, I'm sorry and looking back my judgement is entirely too harsh now knowing the full story, WHICH i should've known if i did proper research on the author. The bikini scene is definitely ridiculous because cmon it’s Anne Hathaway, but we have to remember her ex husband cheated on her with someone younger than her. It’s obviously a sore spot for her and she wants nothing to do with Ava in the movie. Now she’s with this hot younger guy and he’s surrounded by hot younger girls and I feel like that memory is always gonna be in the back of her mind, hence the mumu. TL;DR Anne Hathaway is too hot to be insecure but she does have reasons lol

Hey Trin, I'm pretty sure this was originally written with black characters in mind, but when no one would publish, then she changed the race. Unless I'm missing something, Harry Styles was such a small part of what's been said, so for you to focus on it SO MUCH just seems unfair.
@LovellTrin4 ай бұрын

@carriesnaps35083 ай бұрын
While having the full context is always important before making any commentary/criticism, it doesn't really change much in this particular case. 'The Idea of You' that was released worldwide and got the film adaptation doesn't have poc protagonists and has been heavily marketed as inspired by Harry Styles. So obviously ppl will hyper focus on that considering HS is very popular and any criticism (both negative or positive) will be directly regarding that and not whatever version the book was prior. Not to mention that the main argument regarding the story is about the age gap of the main characters and ofc the morality of openly admitting to have base your character on a real life person (who coincidentally has a history of also being in similar relationships).

She wasn't saying they don't fit because she thinks she's ugly 😭 she was saying that bc their lifestyles are completely different. Also i absolutely cried when she had her whole speech about getting cheated on. I thought her delivery of it was so perfect as someone myself who tries to just explain things with a smile even though they're painful. It's like finally saying it out loud makes me realize how shitty and tolerant i was and you can see her shift when the realization becomes too much for her but then she still has to hold back bc she's always had to be strong for her daughter. Idk that scene was the best

The way he behaves, showing up at her place of work unsolicited, making grand gestures in front of an audience to impress her, would be so inexcusable if he was a normal person and not attractive and famous. I'm trying to figure out how this is supposed to be a mature story for adults about an adult woman when this guy seems like a personality-less cardboard box whose only selling point is that 13-year-old girls find him desirable. Doesn't really resonate with me as an older woman. You should know by 40 how meaningless superficial things are and I'd rather see a story where we understand deeply why these two people like each other because of the interactions they have. But that's much harder to write. Instead, anything here that actually seems like a deep exploration of feelings has everything to do with building HER characterization and he's literally just there, being a pretty cardboard box, and I guess we're supposed to like him because he's the saint that did the charitable service of smashing an older woman. This is just a teenager's wish-fulfillment fanfiction written by a woman who never grew up and thought she wrote a masterpiece.

The ending of the original novel is more realistic, in that Hayes and Solene split up permanently, though it's implied that she never really gets over him. Author Robinne Lee was reportedly displeased with the change.
@WhaleManMan4 ай бұрын
This story is realistic?
@iamlinda1004 ай бұрын
Solene and Hayes relationship was alot more toxic and volatile and predatory and was driven more by lust in the book, it's obvious they couldn't make their relationship work, so the ending in the book was more realistic for their relationship in the book. BUT in the movie their relationship is less toxic and more organic and grounded and abit more wholesome and mature in the sense that Hayes was older and they had more healthier interactions & conversations with each other in the movie. I think their relationship in the movie is more convincing and believable, I can believe that they actually do love each other and can make their relationship work in the long run. So considering how their relationship was portrayed in the movie, which is less toxic and more grounded compared to the book, the happier ending is realistic for the movie iteration. In reality there are couples with big age gaps who are able to make their relationships work.
@pixiel1xie3 ай бұрын
@@iamlinda100Sounds like the book accurately portrays what happens in a lot of age gap rebound relationships. The couple works bc they have matching emotional *immaturity*, which is not sustainable long term.
@iamlinda1003 ай бұрын
@@pixiel1xie actually Hayes is more mature than his age, he is more mature than the other members of the band actually. He's more mature with Solene, and he's aware of Solene's feelings. Hence why Oliver remarked that Hayes became a "middle aged old man" since he met Solene. Hayes was aware of their safety after their relationship became public so he had security cameras installed. He also understood the importance of the mother & daughter relationship and how hard it was for Izzy to deal with all the harassment and bullying, so he accepted their breakup, even though it hurt him. He also mentioned resuming their relationship after 5 years when Izzy is older. The only reason they broke up was because of Izzy due to all the public backlash against them. Hayes might be only 24 years old, but he's more mature and considerate. While Solene being older, but she has an immature quality to her as well, being a young mum, she wasn't really able to live her early years, so she was living the life that she missed. Their personalities match each other very well, that's why they were able to build such a strong bond so quickly, it wasn't just sexual attraction between them. They also had mutual respect and real love and affection for each other, Solene gave Hayes the courage to go solo and have more faith in himself and his talents. Like I said, their relationship in the movie is more grounded and mature compared to the book. I believe they will be able to make their relationship work long term. In reality there are some couples with big age gaps who are able to make their relationship work in the long run.

before i finish your video i just wanna confess i’ve seen this film 3x already, it’s so cute and comforting and literally would NOT have worked to the extent it did without the leads. but i rlly wish i didn’t learn the context of the source material and all the things they had to either rewrite or completely scrap to make this movie less yucky. with that being said, a LOT of the forced feminism dialogue is what did make me side eye the movie even while i was enjoying it. when izzy said, “it’s cuz you’re a woman and you’re older than him,” i was like… well, yes! i think they’re not wrong about how women get scrutinized even more for being the older person, but this film isn’t from the 2000s. our generation thinks older men in her position ARE disgusting, so that was a given no matter the gender. those few lines from hayes and izzy and her friend tracy were the only ones that took me out of the film and made me crinkle my nose. but i WAS a huge 1d fan who read and wrote a lot of harry fanfic LMAO so i loved the music, the magic corniness of boy bands, nicholas’ blatant harry voice/mannerisms. i had a huge blast but god i have to ignore the questionable inspiration and white feminism being shoved down my throat towards the middle to ending of the film

and just to be clear, ik that the writer isn’t a white woman but i said what i said. literally they’re pushing this “MEN do it so WHY CANT AN EMPOWERED WOMAN LIKE ME?” message and it’s just… ugh. i think him being 24 was such a good revision. still kinda weird but at least he’s in his mid twenties rather than just being fresh off his teens like in the book so if they had kept him as 20 the entire movie would have been ruined. i’m 24 myself and i admit i’ve talked to an older guy close to anne’s age like once but nah it’s too weird i don’t think anyone over 10 years older than me has any business being near me intimately lmao

I believe the original book was about two black characters, but the author wasn't being published with that, so she had to change their race and was able to publish that way. Similarly, I think she made the Harry Styles comment in a way to get more eyes on the book. Regardless, using a real life person as an inspiration for a character IS actually different from writing fanfiction. For example, I wouldn't call Red, White and Royal Blue fanfiction, but it is very clearly inspired by Prince Harry and the very real British Royal family.

That's so sad that STILL there is so much racism in publishing and the movie industry that she couldn't get it published with two black main characters. I loved the movie just cause it was wattpad coded HOWEVER there are so many wattpad stories that aren’t based on celebrities that could be made. Not just one but two stories that were once Harry styles fan fiction that ended up being made into movies is wild.
