About the cyanide, what you said about cyanide instantly killing you isn’t entirely true. There was one person known to have survived cyanide poisoning, and now I’m convinced that the main character’s real name is Grigori Rasputin, she’s a Russian monk, and this entire story is set in 1916 Saint Petersburg.

It is very unlikely Rasputin actually was as tenacious as people believe he was. Considering the stories of him surviving come entirely from his assassins, it seems far more likely Rasputin's killers just didn't want to admit they were really bad at their jobs. No, the person who survived Čabrinović, one of the assassins of Franz Ferdinand. When he failed to kill the Archduke (this is a story I highly recommend reading by the way, it's actually hilarious how badly everyone involved managed to fuck up) he tried to jump in a river and swim to safety, only to realise it was low tide and the river was only a few feet deep, and then tried to eat cyanide to avoid capture, only to immediately vomit it up, not even giving it enough time to start being digested. In this case, there are many witnesses and the man was finally taken alive.

Yep + it taked over a month to get the test done. Cyanide is so lethal in such small doses that normally the only time it would be considered would be on autopsies. There are only a very few labs in america equipped to even do those tests. About the poisoning one, you can actually keep giving someone a low dose of poison for months on end to keep them sick. Sometimes the best way to track something like that is to analyse some of your hair, since things like arsenic end up there after ingested. It can track poisoning for month in some cases. I watch a lot of medical and forensic documentaries...

Apple seeds contain cyanide, but you have to eat approximately 1 liter (if I recall correctly) of them for it to become fatal. It also obviously deteriorate with time as your body processes it, but I don't know any figures for that.

Just a note. There have been cases of people slowly poisoning someone and they get sicker and sicker over time. People can actually handle having small amounts of cyanide in their system without dying. And one of the symptoms of small doses of cyanide is headaches. Also, if Eve went to the ER or her doctor and told them she thought she was being poisoned, they would rush her blood work and have it done in a few hours.

And it's not even just cyanide, there's dozens of poisons this is applicable to, most commonly heavy metal poisonings (arsenic and lead especially, though lead isn't usually like... an intentional poisoning, except on behalf of the government against every single person in impoverished communities) and a lot of poisons present in flowering plants (both intentionally and non-intentional, a lot of poisonous flowers are used in various medications, from heart medications to antidepressants). It's super common for a poison to be something that kills you slowly over time even when done intentionally, often more common than an outright one-time lethal dose, as its believed to be more discreet and less likely to be found out, though, with modern knowledge and forensic technology this often isn't really true.
