People these days don't realize how big MSW was in its days. It averaged up to 30 million viewers, all the way up to its 11th season. It would have continued too, if CBS hadn't moved the show to a different night. It was the first hour long show to feature a woman as the only lead, Jessica also never needed a love interest. Her first and only kiss happened in the pilot. Angela Lansbury won several Golden Globes and received 12 Emmy nominations. MSW really revolutionized TV in an unparalleled way. I wish more people would remember that.

@@bryanzermeno8466I did a quick wikipedia search and will put what I found here. So Murder she Wrote averaged more than 30 million viewers in it's prime and was in the top 10 most popular tv shows on the air for years, it's highest rated episodes pulled more than 40 million viewers and even before it changed nights in the 11th season it was regularly pulling 25 million viewers a week.

Fun Fact: When you are "pushing 30" as a professional in speed disciplines in skiing you are actually in your best age. The technical disciplines tend to be dominated by people in their early 20s but for the speed disciplines you don't need that much agility but experience. The oldest winner of a race was 37 (and he also won the World Cup in that year) and the oldest placing within the Top 3 was 40.

Hey! I've been loving your MSW playlist. Just a quick note since you mentioned the title... "Snow White, Blood Red" is a play-on-words for the fairytale "Snow White, Rose Red" that's basically about two sisters living happily ever after because they trust a bear (hence the papa bear quote in the movie) and are unfailingly kind and forgiving. It's a rather cruel irony because the cop (the sole person you should be able to trust in this situation if you're white upper-crust like they all are) turns out to be a phony and the murderer all along. It's like if the bear in the fairytale reassured the sisters that he just wanted a warm place to sleep, they let him in, and he ate them both for dinner.

Although pulldowns do primarily work the latissimus dorsi, they also use the trapezius, pectoralis minor and anterior deltoid muscles, and even (to a lesser extent) the biceps...so what he's saying isn't unreasonable. I did lat pulldowns in front and behind neck for years, never once had an injury, nor do I know anyone who was harmed doing it...behind the neck works the traps more. Provided you are pulling it down under control, not hitting the back of the neck with the bar you should be OK

Regarding the reveal here, they did give us the information that Gunar had had an affair with a married woman whose husband was mobster-ish, and had made that guy made. And they presented it in a way so as to make it feel like background information that we'd assume WOULDN'T be important, and then it was. And I have to say, there are a few instances on this show where a policeman seems almost TOO eager to have Jessica's collaboration...and he turns out to be not legit. So, anytime there's a policeman she doesn't know well, or who is there too coincidentally, it can be a tip-off. On the other hand, in the later seasons, and in New York especially, some of the very real cops do absolutely idolize Jessica and seek out her help / tutoring.

The trick would be having a different occupation the next time the same person asks, or, bonus, someone asks your occupation again while you're standing with someone you just told. It'll be lovely once disability is normalized to the point that you can move to the next topic other than employment without people dragging you right back and asking again, and saying "I don't have a job, I'm disabled" doesn't just murder the entire conversation.

Love these videos! My suggestion for a possible future one: "Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall", the two-part ending to Season 5 (it really is the best season). This one has always stood out to me because we see such a different dynamic to Seth and Jessica's friendship, when he confronts her about what's essentially burnout. Also... then he almost DIES.

Murder She Wrote did very well for CBS for over a decade. Even got 4 made for TV films and 2 video games. Angela Lansbury got to live to 96 years old until she died in 2022. This was a good series to watch after 60 Minutes. This was Pat Summerall would say over and over after the game each week saying 60 Minutes then Murder She Wrote.

Hey Roses, love your Murder, She Wrote recaps. I have three episode suggestions. The first two are from the same season as Snow White, Blood Red. In fact they are the two episodes that come right after: Coal Miner's Slaughter and Wearing of the Green. The first has an early appearance of Megan Mulally (aka Karen Walker for all those Will and Grace fans out there). The second deals in the world of jewels and features Lucie Arnaz (aka Lucy and Desi's daughter) as the cop. The third episode is from Season 7 called Family Doctor. In it, Seth is forced to operate on a mobster and is accused by the sons of being the hitman hired to kill said mobster. It's all up to Jessica to straighten it all out! I'd love to hear your takes on these great episodes. Keep up the great work!

It's been months but the trope of killing more than the intended target exists for a reason. It's even seen in real life killers. A targeted, single death leads to a small pool of suspects, especially those who have reasons for killing them that can be determined by auditing personal connections. But if more murders happen, you have to audit each one, find some kind of Venn overlap that can throw things wildly out of perspective, and also have no connection to the killer per se. If the murder appears to be the result of a series of killings it's not especial enough to warrant focused attention, and indeed will forcibly split focus as all the crimes must be solved at once, leading to mistakes.

Weird thought when watching this, as someone who's currently in a bushfire prone area frequently filled with suffocating smoke - someone should write a closed circle about bushfires. Several people can't get out of their towns and can't get phone reception and even when it comes to my city, yesterday most of the ways out of the city were blocked on and off, planes couldn't take off or land and the smoke was so thick nobody could leave the house without masks. Doesn't have the cosiness of a snowstorm though, just a whole bunch of blegh. Helps to distract myself with something fun and snowy though! Love the that time on episodes despite never having seen murder she wrote, they're always a delight.
@roguishpaladin
@roguishpaladin 5 жыл бұрын
It's not a bad idea, but there is a crucial difference between a snowstorm and a wildfire. With a snowstorm, there is nothing really to worry about besides waiting it out, assuming you have a proper shelter. With a wildfire, the fire itself can spread to the safe area where the closed circle takes place. A writer would need to explain how the safe area is both cut off but not threatened, and indulging that setting explanation can distract from the thrust of the story (unless that explanation is then leveraged in another way by the main plot, using what seems like setting exposition to set up a Chekhov's crossbow...er, gun).
@LilCosgrove
@LilCosgrove 5 жыл бұрын
@@roguishpaladin I could see it working if the writer used the wildfire as an extra stake in the story - they need to find out X in order to solve Y, and they need to solve Y before they can leave the area, where the fire is closing in fast...

I love ski lodge themes, especially 80s ones with all the great fashion. The Garfield and Friends episode "Break-a-Leg" does a great job with it too, with the sweaters and puffy 80s skisuits. I'm also a big fan of the 'closed circle' trope used for mysteries. And a ski lodge or cabin locked down due to a storm, is 'almost' better than being stuck on a train, with having to find the killer fast and having no outside interference. One of my first murder mystery dinner parties was one of those box kits and it was called the 'Icicle Twist'. Getting to pull out my best 80s style sweater while host a party themed at being at a ski lodge was so much fun. I think you would enjoy that mystery dinner. Anyhow, thanks for reviewing this one, I enjoyed it for many reasons; as you can tell. Thank you Roses!
