I would highly recommend getting a short section of tubing to brace under the disc tab, or it could get hairy if the braking forces kink or bend the seat stays

Dr Frankenbike here! My kind of project. Welding thinner steels and filling gaps is best done with a copper backup shoe. A copper plumbing pipe might have prevented burn through and cut down on the file. JB Weld might fill those imperfect welds for a masterful look under paint. You could brag about how you got the heat setting just right so it just about welded itself! Steel is such a fun material because it tolerates a few mistakes and usually can be corrected. It's Alive! Great video.
@rustymaximus91793 жыл бұрын
Why not just make a flat mount and JB weld it to the frame? I bet it would work fine. Drill and tap into the frame itself, so just a small plate on the outside to serve as a brace and flat surface.
@pishpash753 ай бұрын
it's fine, shoulda just put a bit more heat into the 1/4" flat steel. looks fine regardless
@awco77883 жыл бұрын
Hey brother - weld does not stick to copper - so in the future if you can put a piece of copper tube I side the tube you’re welding you can save some cleanup

Its great tip! I welded thin sheet metal with stick welder successfuly thanks to this method.

I can say with a fair amount of confidence that I am qualified to tell you everything wrong with that weld job. But instead I commend you for your ingenuity and drive. Keep doing what ever you want man, it is flipping awesome. The amount of utility in messing with cheap bikes dwarfs the instant gratification associated with the buying coolest new thing. You have great ideas, thank you for sharing them.

Awesome stuff. Loving the build on this bike. I've got the exact same frame that I recently stripped down, and built up into a flat bar, rigid gravel bike, with new headset, bb, 700c wheels, forks and re-using old parts (drivetrain, hydraulic brakes, bar, stem, grips, seatpost, saddle and some spare tyres that didn't fit in another project). Can't wait to see yours once it's finished. It's gonna shred for sure!

@Rozbujnik_Rumcajs3 жыл бұрын
I did it to my bike with stick welder. Most important thing is to use smallest electrode possible. I belive 1,6mm is smallest one. Other thing is welding small portion at time so you dont overheat tube and burn hole throu.
