Fairy knots are the only reason I can see myself going back to a relaxer. I am in my 5th or 6th big chop again but this time it is not because of those darn knots but because of brain surgery. I am so happy that I didn't go back to the relaxer before my surgery. It was an emergency surgery and when I woke up in ICU they had shaved 1/4 of my hair off. When I went home I shaved the rest of it off. I am now sporting a curly twa and loving it. Your hair looks really good.

I’m a professional and your on the right track. I have the same thickness and density and I’ve never had a relaxer. But I’ve always straightened once a month or blow out and my hair has always been Atleast mid back UNTILLLL the natural hair movement and I started wearing wash n gos and wet braidouts and started experiencing major single strand knots and sneaky breakage where I didn’t notice it until I straightened and my hair looked a hot mess. Fine hair does better stretched and with low manipulation. It’s true.

Your hair looks great. I know you mentioned that you may go back natural but, some people’s hair just does better when relaxed or straightened. I’m a natural (I have no chemicals), but I straighten my hair because it’s less manipulation for me, and I can retain more length. As soon as I don’t straighten my hair, I realize that my hair tangles more, I have to wash my hair more because I’m using more product to style it, and it’s more manipulation. I have fine hair as well. Your hair is looking healthy, and it’s filling in. Thanks for sharing.

The new growth may be straighter right now because its fresh but it will thicken out. Use a moisturizing conditioner for the ends and a balanced one for the top and mid shaft.

Your hair is looking really good!! I used ors no lye for years and about 2yrs ago switched to mizani no lye. The difference for me is I used to add coconut oil to the relaxer to slow the process and not relax bone straight and with the mizani I get the same results without doing all of that.

Mizani is the same relaxer that I've been using and it always gives me consistent texlaxed results. Unfortunately, it is extremely hard to find in Canada. I finally texlaxed about 2 weeks ago after being natural for 10 yrs. I used dark and lovely and I thought it would be good since it had bonding treatment and essential oils in it. My hair processes fast, so I added olive oil and coconut oil to it. My hair felt very dry so I washed and DC two days later bc I was afraid of breakage. I moisturized with amla, carrot and almond oils to help keep it moisturized which helped a lot. Then last night I noticed a lot of shedding. I sprayed my hair with the aloe juice rosewater mix which helped and ton and did a botox treatment in my hair today then moisturized after I heat styled to lock it in. In 6 months if salons are open I will probably just do keratin treatment since those work really well for me and keep my curls with no damage risk. To avoid over processing you can add an oil to your ORS or to your actual hair strands

I'm struggling with my natural hair 😩. I haven't had a relaxer over 10+ years. I can't keep my hair moisturized enough 😩. I feel like the more I moisturize the dryer my hair gets 🤦🏽. And don't get me started on Fairy knots 😒.

are you cowashing too regularly or not clarifying? i find if i don't clarify well, my hair gets dryer because of the build up.

I would add raw honey and olive oil to your deep conditioner. Hope this helps Sis 🙃

Sounds like product buildup to me. As I am curl clarity or Peppermint hemp Castile soap will clarify you perfectly

ulovemegz I see the progress 👌🏽! We are hair twins. My stylist used lye (design essentials) when I was relaxed/texlaxed and my hair did not feel as dry as it did when I used no-lye. It retained moisture so much easier and I had way less breakage. She rarely had to trim my hair. No-lye box and professional relaxers made my hair feel slightly rough and it had no luster. Maybe you should think about revisiting lye relaxers if you would like your hair to feel a little more hydrated. Just my little suggestion 😊.

Not gone lie it took me twice to go natural. I just lived by doing what I want to do to my hair. Water and conditioner and buns was my holy grail I kept heavy oils off my hair and my scalp was flake free.

Your face and hair are gorgeous! Just a thought, but I'm wondering if your roots look straighter because your relaxer is fresh. I'm relaxed and in the first few weeks my roots look straighter because my relaxer is fresh. By the 2nd or 3rd week some of my "straightness" has worn off and I can see a bit more thickness. Chile by the 4th or 5th week, my roots are like, "relaxed where"? My new growth comes in with a vengeance . :-)

I have been thinking about relaying or texlaxing my hair. I am 4 yrs natural and girl my hair shedds like crazy, is super dry and the worst part is detangling my hair. I honestly hate wash days because it is such a stressful process that is my personal experience. I just wanna have an easy lifestyle with my hair✌🏽 Thanks Megz for this informative video😊

Due to Covid I am now at 22 weeks without a relaxer! Over 20 years ago I went natural and it was almost two years of growing out my relaxer. I swore I would never do it again. LOL! I am a 12 week relaxer as well, but I have gone as much as 16 weeks. Now at 22 weeks I can't wait to get my relaxer back in. I've never been able to transition to a good natural curl pattern. I have natural hair envy, but it just doesn't work for me. But Natural or Relaxed whatever your preference I say do what is best for you and what works for you. ♥️

Have you considered using ORS Lye Relaxer for your touch ups, instead of their No Lye box relaxer? Since Lye relaxers are gentler on the hair (even though it's harsher on the scalp) it may give you the texlax result that you're looking for. No Lye relaxers are known to be harsher on the hair (even though it's gentler on the scalp). I noticed that no lye relaxers tend to give a more bone straight look over lye relaxers. As long as you protect your scalp very well, you should get the results your looking for from ORS Lye relaxer. Maybe you can try that at your next touch up. I'm happy for you and your hair growth journey and your hair looks beautiful.

I’ve used both before and didn’t personally notice a difference. I just chose to use the box kit because it’s familiar for me and I’ve had good experiences and easier to find in store verses the LYE.
@janayh28174 жыл бұрын
Sub Stuff I use ORS with lye. Works much better and I don’t have to worry about calcium hydroxide buildup like no-lye relaxers. Lye got a bad rap but it works amazing when used properly!

Yeah Meg I'm relaxed too and my hair didn't start growing and retaining length until I started deep conditioning with the ORS Hair Mayonnaise at least once a week. (I mix mine with another conditioner just to give my hair a nice scent. I leave it in for a few hours. Also seems like flat irons are the enemy of relaxed hair. If you need it straight just use the blow dryer with the comb attachment. Another big thing I did was went back to the Tresseme Heat Tamer Spray in the red and black bottle. Its 4.99 everywhere and even the Glam Twinz recommend it as one of their musts as well. Mist a section and use the curling iron or all over before you blow dry. It conditions it and the curl comes out so pretty and shiny. I had used it years ago and my hair got long. I stopped because it was a good length but then started breaking because I wasn't using that heat protectant so now I'm back on it. Also if you do use a curling iron try using the lowest setting you can for your hair to make a curl. I'm excited for you coming back relaxed!

That was me when I was natural. A continuation of knots, breakage plus my hair was supa thick, coarse n wooly. Couldn't figure it out. Following some ppl on utube, that didn't work. Me tryna find my own way n was stuck. Was natural for 7 yrs n went relaxed n was feeling so stress free. I still have problems wit my crown but I'm transitioning back to natural using one. Product only (Nairobi line). I will be using the same product when I'm fully natural. I think I know my hair better now while transitioning

Hi Megs! When you texlax how long do you leave it on before you rinse it off? Do you smooth it once or twice? I tried going natural and my relaxed hair broke off. How do you prevent breakage and how did you get your hair to grow so fast? Thank you sweetie!

Mizani Butter Blend was the only relaxer I only used when I was getting perms. I honestly may got back to it if and when I’m over my 10yr natural journey....I feel like my relaxed hair was BETTER and longer than my natural hair journey....

The "straight" feel of the ORS relaxer you just did may just be because you have a fresh relaxer. Sometimes, my hair will get more texture the next time I wash it. Maybe, maybe not - I do personally have very stubborn hair - but it's worth holding out hope that some texture will return!

Thanksss. It actually processed different because I can tell the way it air dries that it processed permanatly straighter.
