Late to the party, but it’s nice to find a video like this. It has a “Do I need this? No. Do I want it? Yes! I have too many pens, why am I like this‽” feel to it, which I am totally feeling right now. I have to start keeping a pocket diary now to justify all of the stationery buying I’ve been doing lately.

the pentel energel alloy is one of the best pens to own, feels substantial in the hand, the grip section makes sure your fingers never slip and it's a long balanced pen, i always use a pentel needlepoint 0.5 mm or 0.7 mm, the 0.7 mm is the smoothest rollerball refill with the darkest ink the pilot g2 limited has that thick, comfortable grip and it takes pentel refills, another substantial, high quality pen, never feel bad for spending $10 on it, i've seen a lot of sellers sell it for more than double the price on ebay and amazon, so the $10 is a good price for a great pen the zebra sarasa grand is one of my favorite pens of all time, i never noticed the huge clip before until i saw another youtube reviewer who criticized it but my thumb never touches it when i click it, i have almost every single version of the zebra sarasa grand, the one with the gold grip, the one with the white barrel and the green, gold or purple grip, the vintage series, the pastel series and the regular series, i just need the orange one that i can't find anywhere to complete my collection, these of course take the pentel refills thank you for the video

I prefer .38 or .4 will use .5 if it's my last choice. I tend to buy on Jetpens because I can readily cross-reference refills and barrels. Haha I save the refills I replace for zombie apocalypse use. I love the weight of the Sarasa Grands and yes, I got all the barrel colors I could find. My favorite ink refill is the Sarasa Marks On as it works wonderfully with the mildliners.

Any zombie apocalypse reference means we are already friends 😊 I’m going to check that refill out, I’m always open to try new ones. I tried .38 in the energel and found it scratchy but maybe I need to try the .4 hmmm... Jet pens also does a great reference I should have mentioned that, they are probably what got me started down the rabbit hole.

I love ALL the pens! I really love the G2 Limited, but I prefer .5 refills. Mixing and matching barrels and inks to find that perfect pen combination is so much fun. Thank you for sharing!

Sorry for posting on a 3yr old video, but I just watched it. I carry a pen in pocket every day. I didn't want a click pen or one with a clip as it scratches up other things I carry in pocket. I have been carrying a Machine Era Original for 4 years now. It takes Pilot G2, Schmidt Fineliner and can use the Pentel Energel refills. There are more but I don't remember off the top of my head. Mine was $45 when I bought it. I know it won't accidentally write in my pocket and since it's mostly smooth, it doesn't scratch anything in my pocket. It's a weighty pen but that's fine with me. It's easily my favorite pen for those reasons. I just got an Evergel Alloy, Pilot Limited and some Sharpie S Gels today via Amazon. One of those will become my desk pen. But nothing I can fosee will kick the Machine Era pen out of my pocket. I went down that rabbit hole a few days ago and ordered all the things that arrived today. I ordered some Machine Era pens (different styles) for Christmas gifts. Many of those take other kinds of refills. Some click, some twist and some have caps.

It's crazy how much activity this video still gets but I love it. I'm totally checking out the Machine Era - I LOVE the idea that it can just be tossed in a pocket or bag without worrying about scratching things. My Pentel clenas are still my favorite desk pens but doing this video has lead me to explore so many others it's pretty awesome! Thanks for the recommendation for the next one :)

@@LifeintheMitten I just went and bought their field pen last night after commenting. I'm trying to not get too many pens that can't use refills I already have. I have a Parker Jotter in my notebook bag that I take when I give guitar lessons, so I already have Parker refills which is what the Field pen uses. It's a deep rabbit hole. LOL!

@@LifeintheMitten Oh yeah, I suggest the few dollars more on the stainless steel one. Unless you like the smell of brass. I do not. The Markup is a similar pen to the original but has a clip that isn't great and negates the scratching things up pro that the original has. So my suggestion is stick with the original.

I like the look and feel of the PaperMate InkJoy pens in 0.7mm. The gel is great. I have used the BiC Gelocity ink. Those pens are ugly, but great ink in the Ink Joys. Firmer spring too.

I love the saraza pens. Especially with the clip blocking cause I keep it in my pocket and I don’t have to worry about accidentally “out”. It changed my life. Love all these pens tho.

I put the purple energel refill in a purple anodised OHTO Dude rollerball body -a nice match. It's a hexagonal bodied pen which looks great but I'm not keen on the grip section.

try tombow mono graph lite and uni one for bodies for energel and try floatune 0.5 and powertank 0.5 for ball pens (i like powertank cuz it has thich pasty ink while being smooth and yes if modded refill would fit in any pen that uses energel refill altough with a spacer)

I think I need to do an update - I have done the uni one and I like it a lot, I just don't find that body comfortable for long writing. I have not looking into the tomboy so I'm about to go shopping 🤣

Just so you know the energel Pentel pens have a flaw in their clicker they can get stuck easily but you can fix them where they click every single time just by adding a little white lithium grease to the clicker inside you just got to fight to take it apart just thought I'd throw out my two cents

energel is my favorite! i love my blue G2 limited with a blue .7 energel in it, doesn’t get any better. the “energel style” is a beautiful twist action pen you should check out!

YES! I'm all about pentel refills in other barrels - My only problem is that I've swapped so many that when I grab a "different" pen it's always a surprise to what ink is actually in it... it's kind of fun LOL.

There are actually two different Sarasa Grande barrels. I do not like the shinny finish of the one that you have, but there is a ‘retro’ (I think that’s what it’s called) that has a brushed finish and I much prefer that barrel to the first. I have so many pens right now though that I’m in the process of using all my technical pens before they dry out.

So... nope. I just found my Dr. grip and the refills are a different size. The G2 pro is very similar tot he dr. grip and the pentel refills do fit.

Life in mitten do you still have that Pilot metropolitan gel pen? Because I’ve recently bought a couple of them due to Being Inspired by you, and I’ve found out that in order to use either Pentel Energel or Uniball Signo refills in the Pilot metropolitan gel pen, you actually have to take a spring out of another gel pen and put it onto the refill that you want to use in the Pilot metropolitan gel pen.

You should try the pentel philography. It's a twist mechanism, not capped so less hassle. I have the sarasa grand vintage barrel, the one with gold trims instead of silver, I got the green one and it looks really good with gold. Same issue with the clip, it gets in the way every time I click the pen. Also, the top part is too heavy so it's not comfortable for long writing sessions.

We really are LOL. As much as love purple and LOVE energel purple. I don’t like it as my main color in my planner, which feels so odd to me LOL. I’m considering switching to blue/black as my “normal” color

I'm looking to see if I have one of the normal barrel around here. So until I find it and can update my answer is... it should. The refills are the same size (or very very close) I have found the one things that sometimes feels a little different is the tip - because I like the needle tip and some pens are designed for the regular tip.

Sorry. I am a little late on this subject but you should really try Pentel Energel Hexreform. It is a very limited pen. It is a great body for energel refills. I just hope you find it. I have Energel Alloy and Libretto. I like both. Libretto a little more just because of the size. When used unposted. I like short pens.

A while ago I bought a couple of inexpensive pens that accommodated the Pentel Energel refill, a refill that I love writing with. I honestly do not fancy the Pentel pens. So after one of my original pens broke, I went on the hunt to find a suitable replacement barrel. In my search I stumbled across your video. So I would like to direct you to a pen that I found, essentially the same pen that I had bought in the first place. It is usually given away as a promotional pen. The pen is triangular in shape along its entire length. It has a detachable top that can be posted. The clip is silver in all the photos I have seen online. It also has a silver band around the pen where the top and bottom meet. There is also a silver circular 'button' on the top of the pen. The single defining characteristic of the pen is its triangular shape. The balance is great, though the pen is fairly light in weight. I bought mine at a Flea market from a guy who sells pens, but I got all the pens he had left. I have seen these pens online being marketed to businesses as a promotional product, but they are sold in quantities too large for an individual user. But just in case you see one, you should scoop it up and try it. I wish I knew how to post a photo of one here. Unfortunately, my tech skills end at the keyboard. If you google "triangular pens', you will more than likely eventually see the pen I am referring to. I really like this pen and would recommend it to other Energel enthusiasts. Oh, I bought mine for $4.00 Canadian. Hope this is useful. Agree. Awfully nice lady, but the constant tapping, clicking, waving, pointing into the camera, finger drumming, snapping and pen twirling had me needing a shot of something afterwards. Love her pens tho. Love the EnerGel needlepoint 0.5 the best. Black ink is black as the night. I didn’t know Sararasa had a fancy metal pen for their clip model. Peace out.
