My boyfriend and I hope to go to Paris one day. That hotel looks so lovely and the area, we both love books and are not ones for going out too late either. Its nice to see a travel video that does not contain night scenes of drinking and loudness. It is nice to see an alternative holiday, reading books and taking in the atmosphere and drinking tea. There are many of us who like a quieter life, and seeing cultural things like art and book shops etc, and it is good that you as a creator are showing this to people. It used to be that often we all thought we had to follow the crowd, but even some of that crowd did not want to go out clubbing. Thank you for showing us a beautiful Paris.

I also loved your experiences in Paris Ruby. I loved the bookshops and the wonderful art galleries and the stopping for coffee along the way. I agree that this cultural couple of days is far better than clubbing or parties. Our idea of a good evening is starting a wonderful new book and reflecting on what we have seen during a cultural day. One of your best videos Ruby. I absolutely loved it.

I think that sadly, when you don't have the luck to live in the pretty Paris districts, it's difficult to appreciate it daily. Because let's be honest, a specific part of Paris is artistic, beautiful, enjoyable, and the rest is just depressive and unsafe.
@LM-gc2cf
@LM-gc2cf 25 күн бұрын
@@Sophie-up4mm I disagree!! I live in the 19eme arrondissement, a lot less "pretty" and touristy, but still wonderful. I love the parc of Belleville nearby, the ton of delicious restaurants and the bookshops. Of course, Paris being a huge metropolis, there's definitely downsides (crowded subway, homelessness, etc.). But I still enjoy living here a lot!

This was delightful to watch - I went to Paris when I was 13 years old and have never forgotten the magical feeling, all these decades later. ❤ I wanted to run away from my school group and never go back to England! I remember the (to me) exotic breakfasts and the cafe au lait in the hotel, being moved to tears in Notre Dame, and the beautiful department store where I bought a little bottle of Anais Anais, a scent that always reminds me of Paris and I still wear frequently to this day. And those spring skies, so glorious. ❤ I never had the opportunity to get back there, but the memory lights up that part of my youth. I'm so glad you got to go again, thank you for the video, it's a joy to watch.

I was born and raised in Paris, and I have so many childhood memories at the Tuileries garden which you showed in the beginning. Every summer, there’s a fun fair there that my mum would take me to each year. And in the winter, she would take me to the Louvre mall nearly every weekend, where there was a Virgin Megastore, and I would read comics and play with the display game consoles whilst she would browse through books and classical music CDs. It feels so eerie to see one of your favourite and most watched creators wandering around the places you grew up with 😌

0:28 I don't know if you're interested in learning French but, in case you are, station (gare) in French is pronounced more like 'car'. What you said, rhyming with 'hair' sounds a bit more like 'guerre', which means 'war' haha. Hope that helps if you're interested! 😊

There is an old joke about an American or British tourist in France who asks "Ou' est la gare?" (where is the station?) (pronouncing it as above). The Frenchman replies, "Monsieur, la guerre est finie!" (Sir, the war is over!)

I think what inspires me the most about you is solo travel. Although I am a person who lives alone, and quite comfortable in this situation, I have always been afraid of going on a solo travel. It means that I've always organized my trips according to the choices and availability of my relatives and friends. From my point of view, I find people who travel alone courageous. You look so confident by minding your own business, going to bookshops, museums, cafes without caring by the judgment of others. I always thought I wouldn't be able to do the same thing, even though I really wanted to. And yet, after this new video, I decided to challenge myself. I've just booked a single room lodge in a regional park, with hiking and reading on the agenda. A quiet corner, a few hours from home. Step by step... And the next challenge will be a solo trip abroad - already planned! Thank you for leading by example.

Your bookish vlogs are my absolute favorite travel vlogs in the world. I can not describe how happy they make me. I have the same way of traveling and it reminds me so much of the trips I did myself while at the same time presenting new places I have never seen before. About the stamp in the book: I view my books as something personal that I add personality to by marking passages, writing a thought, keeping a ticket in as a bookmark and memory and so on. I think it makes them more valuable this way. Which made me absolutely approve of the decision to stamp a book at a place where I had a beautiful experience like you did. And on a last note: How absolutley fantastic were the Monet paintings?! I never new that they were so long. I could see the water move even through the screen which made me very excited :D I am looking forward to your next travel vlog and hope that you have a wonderful summer. Kyra

Merleau-Ponthy has written something about how museums and art galleries affect the way we perceive art, how they denature it, because the purpose of art isn't to be sacralised. He says that museum prevent us from actually enjoying and understanding art because they don't give us the time to reflect on it like we're supposed to...
@Lainlein
@Lainlein Ай бұрын
Interesting take, but it entirely depends on the museum. I had my proper reflections in several (less famous) museums. I like to go to galeries or museums to cleanse my mind because I get really absorbed by art pieces, especially modern and contemporary art. The Louvre however is just too crowded to be properly enjoyed.

Dear Ruby, it was wonderful to accompany you to Paris. This was such an enjoyable video experience, thank you; I wish it were longer! I completely agree with you about the importance of quiet to take in a painting, sculpture, or other works of art; it does affect the way we appreciate the object. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a superb novel to read, especially in Paris, wow! To see the gargoyles, pillars, and stained glass of this magnificent structure, even from a distance, must be surreal and make the book come alive. Oh you lucky person! I would give so much to be able to see Monet's Waterlies in person. Made me cry just seeing other people seeing it - to do it myself would be so wonderfully overwhelming.

I have always wanted to go to Paris to see the art in the Louvre. I see you got up close to the "Oath of the Horatii, which is one of my favorite paintings. Someday I hope to have the parisian experience, but until then I can watch your video. Keep up the great work! 😀💐

What an enlightening video. Educational, thought provoking and honest fun. I relish your enthusiasm, your videos have so many positive triggers. It is a wish list of content and cameos, even seeing your burgundy Parker Vector fountain pen gave me a recollections of memories long dormant. Best wishes to you being you! The best moments in life never feel real, they stand apart in their own separate atmosphere.

This bought back so many memories of my solo trip to Paris as a 20 something way back in 2007 ..(I'm Australian) at 45 I still prefer solo travel ..you can just emerse yourself. I'm also a massive dance fan so the highlight for me was a solo trip to see the Moulin Rouge. It's so good to see a younger person interested in more than just the superficial. You're trip looks amazing. Glad I found your channel.

I love that you added the stamp! I also love context with my texts. :) Maybe you'd want to add a date to the stamp, as well?

Another great book store in Paris is L'ecume des pages which is right next to the Café de Flore, one of the favourite cafés of Sartre, Camus and De Beauvoir (now it's a tourist trap). The store is mainly focusing on French literature but has a decent English section too. Every friday the Louvre is open till around 10 pm. It's a perfect moment to enjoy their collection in a normal and more tranquil way because all the tourists have left by then.

Lovely vlog, thank you. I so admire that you shine a positive light on doing things solo 🤗 It helps dismantle the strongly held societal view that everyone needs a partner to do things with.

Thank you for taking us with you. It was a lovely trip. I’m going to find Sartre’s book and Baudelaire’s essay. I’ll be on vacation soon and will think of you as I romanticize everything about my travels.
