I am a mother of a book obsessed baby. I have been dreaming of writing a children's book, everyday I read all sorts of baby books, and I always think "why can't I sit and write one?" I have been frozen by my perfectionism. This video has inspired me to just sit and write again(I have lost this hobby after becoming a mum). Maybe it will be geared towards children, maybe not, but I am just going to create. Thank you for your content.

One of my habits for 2024 is to spend at least 10 minutes every day on writing projects. I don't do it every single day, so it's more of an invitation, but the times I do it are enough to kind of keep me in the loop, in the writing mindset and in touch with my writing projects. As a result I find that even when occupied with other things I get ideas for my projects, or find myself writing micro-poems or dialogues that I might integrate to a project later. I think daily or close-to-daily contact with writing can be so beneficial, even if it's just a little amount of time or work or energy, just to be in touch with the writer in us, to not let them be forgotten.

Hi Ruby, thanks for sharing some of your thoughts and practices on this topic! I agree with you on the importance of getting away from this habit of justifying enjoyment/pressuring ourselves to be good at everything we do. I'm a 34 year old dude in the US who has structured much of my adult life around daily learning and trying new things. I started attending beginner ballet classes last year. The first few classes I literally could not do the majority of the movements that were being done - and I haven't improved much since! My lack of skill as a ballet dancer is fairly limited, but the growth potential that the learning process has offered me is limitless. It feels good to be great at something, but sometimes it feels even better to be terrible at something and going for it anyway. All the best!

I've been watching your channel for ages and the thought has just now occurred to me that in a way, I am a writer too, even if my writing is very different from what you usually talk about when you refer to writing. I am a copywriter, which means I write texts for advertisements, websites and blogs. This kind of writing comes with a whole other set of challenges, as it's completely tailored to the client/potential reader/buyer. It's always a fine balance between creativity and what you think is marketable.

Oh, thank you so much for this lovely video, Ruby! 🌹✨Yes, perfectionism often threatens to stifle my enjoyment of writing and drawing. I used to love drawing and painting before I went to school, and my sister and I used to draw while my mum read books to us. Then, at school, we were told that only the ability to draw in perspective and realistically was valuable. I think I developed a fear of making mistakes and of not being talented. I imagine it would be fun and liberating to let go and just jam down ideas and scenes in a first draft, without worrying about how beautifully they are phrased. You know, sometimes I'm afraid my inner critic makes me worry more about my ability to write perfect sentences than the story itself; and I want to change that. (Sorry for my limited English.)

Allocating that time for writting is brilliant as, eventually, your mind will begin to expect the time and begin preparing itself for creative writing. I have seen this phenomena work with regards to scheduled meditation, sleep, studying, and exercise.

How many to you keep after you read? Do you buy books all the time? Thank you once again for your lovely vlogs. You’re helping more people than you know! Best, Tzipi

Hi Ruby, do you (or anyone!) have any tips for education and learning as a neurodivergent person? I essentially left mainstream education just before covid as a result of my mental health and the kind of toxicity of the system I was trapped in. I’ve attempted so many times to get back into education as I do genuinely adore learning, I’ve taught myself in quite an eclectic mix of topics from poetry and philosophical writing to physics and the beautiful illusion we call time. I’ve just never found a way to make accommodations for myself and it can be rather lonely not being able to expand my thoughts as being autistic I don’t really have friends or anyone to bounce ideas around with and I feel like that’s such a key part of learning.
