Picked one up for a commuter. I ride about 5 miles each way with a good mix of hills and some flat. Switched out the flats for drops and got SRAM force groupset. Still very responsive and fun and more hand options for riding. Exactly as you said, a great commuter and fun on hills. I commute from north jersey into NYC and it handles the calm suburbs and bustling city very well! Great video!

@@sedricmalonejr I used a Swift Industries Saddle bag and a Blackburn frame bag and found that great for my commute. I actually have switched to a new bike, but I believe the all citysuper pro has a good amount of mount points to add fork bags, and the flats give a spot to put a nice handlebar bag as well.

If you're looking for something like this, check out the Marin DSX line. The DSX 1 is nothing special, but the DSX 2 with 12 speed is a killer spec for the price. And there's the DSX FS if you need the extra plush.

I own one and have put a few thousand miles over the last year or so, commute with it every day. Have also used it for Light touring. I can confirm that the rear dropouts are an issue, the derailleur hanger is fragile, with a replacement that is both hard to find and expensive. Currently running it single speed and need to tension every few weeks due to slippage (I always use torque wrench to ensure proper installation). I also had a problem with the front rack mount shearing off and sending my rack through the front wheel. Partially my fault for having heavy load but the lower front rack mounts are not very robust and I would caution anyone using them. It's a good looking bike and I think it rides great but has some weak points.

Good review. The gearing problem is easily surmounted. As you said, the weight is a small problem. I notice this frame or bike is well priced. I would consider this bike or one like it. My spouse has an All-City Macho Man (cyclo-cross type), and she likes it. I'm envious.

Sorry those tecktro work good. But at nearly two grand little ridiculous IMO. And with the gear options today that’s little steep. Looks nice and fast. But the Marin dsx2 has this I think for price and spec. You handle your videos great. I’m not really into your side of cycling but really appreciate you and what your doing. I’ve recently refreshed and old pouch can’t believe how fast those bikes are wow.

Oh man, timing! I just snatched one of these up because I was not satisfied with the midnight special. I love the geo with the flat bar and would be curious about drops. Mine is SS so the gearing is pretty much never right and the color way this year is very bland but still nice. Will interesting to see how it rides with a load soon. Great video Russ! Keep it up. @@patientswim6888 I'm order from most to least important: 1. The geo was on the aggressive side, which I thought would be fine. However, the more I rode it, the more I wanted to ride my Kona Sutra. 2. Toe overlap. I'm 5'11" and wear size 12/46 shoes. I got toe overlap on a size 56 frame with stock build. It can run pretty huge tires, but that would just make the toe overlap worse. 3. It felt sluggish most of the time, even with slick tires. With geo that aggressive, it's even more of a letdown when a bike feels sluggish. The steering is pretty quick though. 4. The brakes and stock wheels are shit. 5. The paint is gorgeous but very easy to scratch and scuff. Then is looks kinda shitty. 6. Even with 650bx47, putting bags on the front was difficult due to tire rub. 7. It's not single speed compatible without a tensioner. Sometimes I just really like single speed.

I have a similar bike I built custom out of a niner rlt steel, I like to call it an urban assault vehicle though! :p It’s a fun all rounder, 35mm flat bars, magura mt4 fm brakes, shimano 105 drivetrain, and 700x40 wheels. I recent got a 650b with 2.1 nobs for off road riding. The 105 is horrible off road hah.

Most exciting steel cross/gravel/urban bike(mass production) to come out for awhile for me! Love a SS and geared capable bike. Not in my budget for a while as I went with a SteamRoller for now. No regrets, two different tools. But I will own one of these. I think of it as a modern utilitarian track bike.

I'm from over the pond - what does Party Pace mean? You take it easy? You're not about hurrying? I always wondered. For those coming to the UK wanting to tour, East Anglia is the flat area here. From Lincolnshire to Essex and Kent, it's mostly low gradients. For hill seekers, kotm's, the West is best. From Cornwall/Kernow to Cumbria, Scotland and Wales and the North West you will get your fix.

looked at both this and the Cinelli Gazetta Della Strada which i went with in the end and am sorry i did. despite multiple attempts to ask seller what the weight was, i kept getting estimates of 27 pounds. well that wasy way off -- this thing weighs 28.8lbs with a B17 saddle and campus pedals. It is sluggish. Shifting the Shimano Aliviio drive train actually hurts my thumb and is not nearly as nice as the APEX parts on the All City would have been. important bits like headset and BB are generic no name and the bike turns horribly slowly. pedaling the FSA Vero is fine at 170mm long, but never experienced slow steering like that. the BB is JIS Square Taper and Italian, so upgrades to drive train will be difficult at best. called about returning to My Bike Shop but they charge customers 15% or $200 restocking fee. booo! my only ride was a mix of trail and asphalt, and this thing was a tank, but for some reason no fewer than 12 sticks got caught in the chain or rear wheels, so am guessing the BB height is lower than what i typically take on the trails. perhaps i should try to dell taking that $200 off as a discount and sell. i can then see which of the Super Professionals will fit best between 49-52. so thanks for the reference to size and helping consider the riser bat. (having to move away from drop bar gravel bikes due to back/shoulder issues). sadly, i do love how it looks as the "Brown Eyed Girl Paint" shimmers like 60s metal flake. if i could work around the BB for lighter silver 1x crank, and convert to 1x shifters, with silver Ritchey Classic cockpit, it would be wonderful. but i'd also NEED lighter (Hunt carbon) wheels to shave weight in hopes of coming in around 25lbs. suddenly this $1400 bike cost over $2500. but that is the bike industry situation post COVID.

Nice review of a different kind of bike. The bike, or something similar, would be great as a city bike in my hilly home town. Unfortunately, the deal breaker would be the weight. You could change the gearing, but there must be similar bikes that have shave the weight by quite a bit. Sure looks cool though!

Maybe it's me but 26lbs it's that heavy. So in my opinion 26 lbs is still light weight. I would know I carry my bikes (at my apartment) up and down two flights stairs and taking them on an off the 🚌 so I know a thing or two about light vs heavy bikes

I was curious how well those rear dropouts work, doesn't surprise me that people have reported slippage in some setups (I would imagine especially fixed gear). Go to 7:07 for Russ's discussion. All-City doesn't have the best track record with their disc brake/single-speed dropout designs. the O.G. Nature Boy Disc had horizontal dropouts yet shipped with a quick-release hub that slipped a lot for many people, often bending and damaging the integrated frame chain tensioner bolts. The newer Nature Cross Singlespeed has had issues with slipping in it's updated design that uses an eccentric bottom bracket to enable thru-axles on the rear. Seems like the best offering so far was running the O.G. Nature Boy Disc with a dedicated singlespeed hub with meaty axle bolts but that requires building a whole new wheelset with expensive hub options from manufacturers like Hope ($220+) and White Industries (~$170)

I have a green 853 Nature Boy and I put a Surly Tugnut on it which fixed the issue. Surly and AC also make nice fixed hubs if someone considers going that route. It is also the best-riding bike I’ve ever been on.

@@briand8862 having ridden over 80 bikes I think certain aspects are objective. No one is going to say a bike with a 72 degree HTA is less responsive than a 66 HTA bike in steering or that a bike with 600mm chainstay accelerates faster than a bike with 415mm. I think it’s subjective in so far as what bike you ride the most will be your “normal” but as you diverge from that bikes will either be more or less responsive.

There doesn't seem to be any "give" to them at all, every time the bike has fallen it's either broken (3 times, my fault for sure) or left completely undamaged no middle ground. Seems to be a combination of the material (cnc aluminum I think?) and a _very_ sharp right angle to get around the frame, which is precisely where all of them broke.

What exactly do you mount on the bike that makes it so heavy that you would need 1:1 though? Or are the hills super steep? I definitely have 1:1 probably past that, cassette is also 11-42 but my chainring is only 32. Even as heavy as my 100km ride backpack gets I don't even get to the first 5 gears. Only use it for cycling up things I really shouldn't be going up but I'm lazy to push my bike. Would not mind a bike like that, it's a lot like my mom's bike. But I still prefer my mountain bikes, the slack geometry makes them more agile and having full sus makes it easy to take shortcuts, I can just jump gaps if I need to.

@@PathLessPedaledTV the groceries I've done. But the rest is way beyond, at that point you ain't just commuting anymore. I see why you would definitely need the 1:1. Probably did 30 lbs once, transporting my friend's bike after the derailleur snapped. I was lucky there were no steep hills on that one. Had to stiffen my suspension for that. My country is pretty flat I guess there's probably only 4 steep hills in the whole place and I don't think it can really compare to some of the roads I've seen in pictures of San Francisco

It might work with the 700 at the back and 650 up front. Likely clearance up front for 2.2/55 tire to match the 700x38 rear. Not sure how that affects the handling. I have a Masi Cx/gr that came with 700x40's but did not fit 50's in the back so I tried 27.5x2.2 and it fills out the frame nicely. I have a Bombtrack Arise with sliding dropouts( 2 bolts per side no slip). This allows you to adjust according to the set up: tight for 700x30's road or relaxed for 40's mixed surface.
