@cronoz-sensei42594 ай бұрын
Honestly hats off to them for actually using gator meat of all things on a menu to get as close to the feeling of eating a red dragon as possible within reality, thats genuinely some insane dedication. I really wish I was able to visit Japan and go here, but alas I wont have the money for at least another five years if not more time. I can only hope they make a permanent Dungeon Meshi café because the show really deserves it. Also fun fact for Emily, the part of the gator thats "commonly" used is only the tail meat, since its somewhere between a chicken breast meat and white fish. If you somehow end up in Florida for whatever reason, Florida probably has gator tail recipes down better than anywhere else so might be worth trying if you feel curious and brave enough. Other parts of the animal are rather gamey and tough, people usually dont go for them when trying to make a gator dish. Just the fact they made the gator leg edible and not taste absolutely overpowering is to me absolutely an achievement on the part of whoever made the menu and makes me wonder how would one prepare the rest of the gator in a way that brings out the best of the meat and moderates the leanness and gaminess of it....sorry my inner Laios got out for a second. Anyways, absolutely amazing video, Im hyped to see more colab café videos, especially now that youve set the expectations high with the teaser.

"I really felt for Marcille in this moment" That Dragon Leg being actual lizard meat is marketing genius. It's disgusting, which was the point of eating weird food in the show.
@unfortunatefish33224 ай бұрын
Fun fact! Alligators (and all other crocodilians) aren't actually lizards! While in the reptile group they are closer related to birds than modern lizards (which means that if you consider crocodilians to be reptiles then you must accept that birds are also reptiles lol). The reptile group consists of lizards, snakes, turtles (+tortoises), crocodilians, birds, technically dinosaurs, and tuataras (which are also not lizards). Lizards and snakes are the closest related groups and are both in the Squamata group, they're basically cousins as snakes are essentially just highly specialised lizards.

Since we are infodumping, Apari is likely named after Appare which is an old Japanese word, but people love it for basically being a pun with modern high fashion 'apparel', in Japanese where dropping the final 'ru' is pretty standard. See the joke is that this foreign word is already a Japanese word with almost the same meaning. a similar thing is words like 'nikuman' buns where the 'man' really means like the 'knot' in 'doughnut'. but that -man ending is a big reason why words like 'salaryman' blew up in Japan. Adding -man to the end makes it, like, a thing. Which is coincidentally very similar to uses like "fireman". If you're wondering why manga like dragon ball has all these food names, it's part of that. Being named a dish is a bit like a superhero name.

I wanted to add, a lot of people have pointed out the gator choice wasnt the best cut of meat, but I have a suggestion aside from aesthetics for the choice. Importing gator meat is probably rather expensive, both being a more exotic meat as well as imported, im sure going to the less appreciated cuts makes that price go down a bit to be a bit more manageable... probably a bit of a perfect storm in that regard. Both really drives home "dragon" as well as not being quite as expensive as plating everyone with the best cuts of tail on the market....
