As African and Yoruba I a m proud of our People in Caribbean, that retains their Ancestral beliefs system, that predate any religion on Earth. What is demonic when you honoring the past Ancestors. This Cultures is understand by enlightened African or Black the name impose on us. This is our Culture, that tell our experience and way of life long before European and Arab invading of our great Continent. We understand the forces of life, the energy of Earth and nature. We understand we are part of nature, and we balance we nature. People in the west do not understand this. Is logic to say is demonic to them. Remember Civilization is not structural engineering, understanding the forces of nature, that you cannot see but manifest is also Civilization.

Let me explain for those who are upset about the chicken getting sacrificed. The reason is beccause its one way for that spirit they work with to be manifested. Its energy. The chicken is prayed over before the sacrifice out of respect for its life. Also no one enjoys killing the animal but its what must be done in order to appease the energy they work with so the work can be done. Oh and yeah I'm vegan so it makes me squeamish too. But I understand why it must be done therefore respect must be given.

Awesome Comment. I'm nearing the end of the Wade Davis book from 1985 - "The Serpent and the Rainbow". He goes into detail about many aspects of Haitian culture, including a segment pertaining to the use of live animals - chickens specifically. It should not be a surprise to anyone that the relationship between animals and plants in indigenous/third-world cultures is a bit different than that of the west.

Did alot for us but people kept brainwashing her about christianity, she kind of gave in now. But luckily i carry it on. Been great for me and my family. The ancestors watch us daily. Haiti makes me so proud. I wanted to marry Haitian woman but there werent any in London. So married a jamaican woman. Theyre proud too. I know I got here from researching one of my current favorite fictional characters currently, but I keep on seeing Anti-Vodou trolls everywhere and it isn't even funny, it's their culture and must be respected, these ceremonies are powerful and spirtual in every right. Also I've noticed how most of these people calling the faith some rather nasty things happen to be christian, I'm christian too, the bible never said anything about destroying others beliefs so I'd like to politely tell these trolls to not,,, be insensitive, I may have strayed away from the original point of this comment, but please respect others belief.

The person will say they're protestant... Because they might tell you they're sick" I honestly don't know why they cut the last section up like that... The subs are way off and don't even keep to the main idea of what the priest is saying ._. Voodoo is just like any other religion, I just hate it being shifted to "they're doing this because they're poor and everything is terrible in Haiti." If you truly do believe that go to Haiti and you'll see that it isn't all poverty and struggling. There are people that are able to make a living and live normal lives. It's like if someone makes a documentary about America and focuses on the most religious and poverty-stricken areas.

Paul Streeter the spirit gets bored of the body and finds somene else, someone else usually far away because the spirit begins to see its own footsteps and thinks it was another spirit, two spirits of the same kind cant be near each other or war will break and everyone in the room will turn on each other and it will be bloody. So yes the spirit leaves on its own before it begins to sense itself

@@thebridge5483 we do practice voodoo in Louisiana, but hoodoo is our spiritual practice. It's not a religion like voodoo so you can still practice any other faith. Its basically African American folk magic that mixed west African, European, and native American ancestral practices due to slavery in the Eastern United States. Many say it originated from the Gullah/Geechee people, which makes sense. It's does have some elements similar to other black diaspora practices, but it is diffrent. Isn't it ironic that this holy God that loves us all required Jesus to be butchered and slaughtered on the cross just like that chicken.then we simulate drinking his blood and eating his body talking about calling the kettle black.

@@gregoryhairston8971 You misunderstand the entire story my friend. The wages of sin is death. God did not want us, humans, to die because of our sins, so THE ALMIGHTY GOD, whom nothing is impossible for, came in a human body (Jesus) and paid for it Himself. So that anyone (murderer, thief, magician, devil worshippers etc.) who repent of their sins and believe in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. God is LOVE

Not surprised to see the Christian zealots(I'm a Christian btw), Dominican nationalists and typical White supremacists united in bashing Haitian spirituality in the comments. lol.

Jesse James The African religion Vodun (called Voodoo in Haiti) is 8,000 years OLDER than Christianity. Stop judging them because they choose NOT to follow the Christian religion that was violently FORCED upon their Ancestors by foreign invaders who lied to, raped, abused, murdered & enslaved their Ancestors.

And you feel you had to come to a Haitian cultural video to say that lol we don’t care what you are proud to be lol Caucasian isn’t even a race it’s a region in Russia the people there are technically asian since the region is in Asia has nothing to do with race and the people there are nothing like you not even a resemblance your real history is that of the angles and saxons and other Germanic tribes who destroyed Rome that’s your real history
