I worked at a Ponderosa close to an Amish community in Illinois. Every now and then we would have a horse and buggy in our parking lot! I befriended an Amish family that invited me to their home for a day! OMG some of the BEST food I've tasted! Their bread and peanut brittle blew me away! Thanks for sharing this review! An FYI. You call it "stuffing" when it's stuffed into the bird. "Dressing" is when it's baked separately in a casserole dish. And "broasted" is when the chicken is marinated or brined first and then pressure fried. I think it's way better than fried chicken. Wish I had an Amish restaurant close to me. Thanks for the fun video, Timmy!
@RegularJoes15 күн бұрын
Stuffing and dressing wording is regional to different areas. I've been cooking stuffing for over 40 years and never once inside the bird. Yes, your wording makes sense but it's how each of us grew up. We put dressing on a salad. You do you, everyone else will do what they grew up with, all good. Take care 💛
@lynnsenger995015 күн бұрын
@@RegularJoes I've always called it stuffing, too. About 10 years ago, I was watching Barefoot Contessa and she explained the difference. It made sense to me, but it will forever be "stuffing" in my book. Seems like folks on the East Coast refer to it more as "dressing." Whichever term you use, it's my favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner!
@dimentioo15 күн бұрын

@lynnsenger995015 күн бұрын
@@texastwister6988 Stovetop is a staple in my house. I have to confess that I snack on it right from the can! But only the chicken flavor. The turkey variety is nasty, cooked and uncooked.

If he is in that corner of the world, the best Amish Buffet, BY FAR, is Dienner's in Ronks. None of the tourist bus ones are even close in quality. It is a bit smaller, but you will leave their beyond stuffed. They somehow take boring, comfort food and raise it to a level I've never had anywhere else. IE I got maybe a tablespoon of tapioca pudding, and only because of fond childhood memories w/a fav Aunt. I had to go back and get a big serving. It was made with real cream and I think there was real whipped cream in it too. I've never had any Tapioca near that good...well except on return trips. The downside. They keep terrible hours and close very early so plan accordingly. And thanks to Yelp, what was my hidden gem for eons now have massive lines, so allow wait time. BUT it is the only Amish buffet that actually is almost entirely run by Amish or Mennonite (owned by a Mennonite couple). If you want to go to touristy themed Amish buffet, by all means go to the other ones. Shady Maple is probably the best food of the list. Katie's Kitchen is the other real deal Amish Restaurant, but it's not a buffet.
@brittanysparkles117510 күн бұрын
Thank you. Yes. This is a definite stop Shady Maple. They also have a store on the bottom floor and an entire grocery store where he could get a wet bottom. If he goes there he should also check out ollies ice cream and petting zoo.

@@brittanysparkles1175 LOL I'm going to chime in again, and respectfully disagree. To me the best shopping experience in Lancaster is Roots Farmers Market. There are tons of stands, many owned and run by local Amish farmers, craftsman, bakers, you name it. The BEST fruit BBQ sauce I've had in my life came from there. There was Peach BBQ sauce, apple, you name a fruit. SOOO amazingly good!! But thankfully I had my car. He would be flying in, and unless he shipped stuff home, not really practical. And IMHO there is no better Shoo Fly pie than Dutch Haven. And they give you a big sized sample slice. I usually swing by while killing time for the now long wait at Dienners, as it's next door. It's my Amish amuse bouche LOL My 2nd favorite Lancaster shopping is roadside farm stands (mind you, some carry Made in China nick nacks along with homemade stuff, so be aware). But there is one place that shipped that sold the best home made cinnamon rolls I've ever had (and I've had some amazingly good ones). They also sell home made noodles and more. Sadly the card was destroyed when I had major pipe bursts and flooding, but hope to find it again next trip! It was not very far from a popular Quilt shop in an Amish woman's walkout basement, so hope to figure it out that way, as the farms can look very similar once you get off the main roads. BTW never heard of Ollie's and couldn't find it online...wonder if it is still there?

Timmy dressing and stuffing are different foods! Stuffing is usually made with bread or cereal and is stuffed inside a turkey or chicken, while dressing is made with cornbread and meat is usually added to it like turkey or chicken (chicken dressing is my favorite!). ❤️
@kareninalabama16 күн бұрын
I was born in PA, where the only difference between stuffing and dressing is what the others have commented: stuffing is cooked inside the bird, and dressing isn't. Neither has cornbread nor meat in it, as it is typically served as a accompaniment to poultry. My family didn't start adding cornbread (but not meat) until we moved to the South (well, to FL.) And now I live in AL, where they make "chicken & dressing", which is a specific dish that includes meat and cornbread (and hard-boiled eggs 🤢). But as you said, dressing in the South seems to be different than dressing in the rest of the country. My college roommate's mother, who was born and raised in the South, added beaten eggs to her cornbread dressing.
@Jaxnay21913 күн бұрын
@ I was born in Chicago and also now live in AL and me and my entire family (from Chicago and Mississippi) have always added meat to our dressing, side dish or not. Also any dressing I’ve EVER had (my extended family, friends, or potlucks with random people) the dressing that was brought was ALWAYS made with cornbread. If it wasn’t then it was considered stuffing. I absolutely hate stuffing lol! Like I’ll vomit if I eat it, hence why I prefer cornbread dressing.

Yay. A Timmy video! We should have a book, feast time and use Little Women as discussion. Lol. That was my favorite book growing up and I love all your references to Beth. You keep me laughing all the way through yout videos. Love you❤
