A couple of the cruise things you brought up are similar on all cruise lines: The bed is designed to split so 2 people can either share the bed or have 2 single beds. On the toilet paper, it’s that way because of the ship’s septic systems. You can bring your own, but be careful flushing it (they may ask you to use sanitary bags to dispose it)

Besides the ships, the length makes a huge difference. On the mainstream lines (Carnival, RCCL, NCL) the 3 and 4 day cheaper cruises are definitely the party cruises. And, in general, they tend to be on the older ships, too, with the newer ships mostly doing the 6+ night itineraries. Night and day difference. Just depends on what sort of vibe you're looking for.

The bed is the way it is because the rooms are commonly split into two twin configurations, and occasionally 4 twins(2 fold out of the walls like bunk beds). They join and seperate them upon request. You won't find a solid full size mattress outside of a suit or premium balcony room on carnival. The lower deck rooms are all configured this way. I've been on probably 25+ cruises, and 2/3rds of those have been Carnival. It's not particularly a luxury experience, especially compared with Royal. As for food, the buffet is generally garbage outside of breakfast. If you have a sea day, opt for sea day brunch in the dining room, and outside of that stick to the free speciality food spots on the lido deck like Guys, the blue iguana, the mongolian bbq, the deli and pizza parlor(not every ship has all of these options). A pro tip for dinner in the dining room is you can order 2+ of everything. it's all inclusive. They won't say no. I always get a minimum of two apps and two dinners in the dining room. You can do the same for sea day brunch. If you're lucky and cruise frequently enough, you may end up with the same server across multiple sailings and ships, and it really evelates the experience. You can request that specific server if you know they'll be on your ship. All through high school we had the same server across 2 sailings a year, and he was awesome! As for alcohol, don't buy a drink package. Go spend $100 or so gambling the first night and win or lose that should be enough to net you free drinks in the casino. You just have to worry about tipping. Saves you a few hundred. Pretend to play slots after that point if money is a concern and get drinks as needed, and take them anywhere on the ship after. It's not really worth getting off the ship on a 3 day cruise unless you never see the ocean/beach where you live. Bimini has nothing on it, and anything worth seeing requires a taxi/golf cart ride. I'd only get off the ship on a 5 or 7 day western carribean cruise at stops in south america/mexico, but I've been on dozens of cruises. It may be more exciting for you to see Bimini if you don't leave America often. Resort world has a neat little resort and casino on Bimini that's a short golf cart ride from port, but it's nothing you haven't seen on the ship already outside of it being much larger. In Nassau there's a great bar shack on the beach with $1/beer and free wifi for customers, highly recommend checking them out. I believe it's called the tiki bikini hut. Kalik is a must try if you enjoy beers like Corona. It can be found on most carribean islands. As for room service, it's free from what I remember on Royal, just generally need to tip. Carnival gives you enough in on board credits with most bookings that you're not really ever paying out of pocket for that anyways, but whenever my dad books, he likes to save the credits to generously tip the staff before we go home. They make well under minimum wage, as these ships home ports are always in other countries or the bahamas, so they're not bound by federal min wage. Be mindful of that. They make very little, and work for months straight to send money home to support their families.

The bed thing is totally normal - that way they don't have to limit who can book any room (like a hotel where each room is a king or 2 doubles). Each room has 2 twin beds, which they strap together and use a mattress cover to make it into a king for people who want only 1 bed. Imagine the canyon after sleeping in it for a week! Your couch is also a bed if there is a third person on the room, they make that up into a bed (and it's actually pretty comfy!).

I would not have been able to sit a table with a talkative stranger. My social anxiety/autism would have fully killed my appetite and I would have just walked out.
