I Went to CAPCOM to Play STREET FIGHTER 6 Before Anyone (ft.

Today, Garnt and I took a visit to CAPCOM in Tokyo to play the newest Street Fighter 6 game before it gets released... we are NOT good fighting games so this might be a painful watch for some viewers.

Inviting less experienced players actually makes sense for Capcom to reach different audiences! Street Fighter VI introduces the Modern control scheme which is designed to be more similar to Smash Bros and Injustice where special attacks are given their own button. Since the other attack buttons aren’t separated into punches and kicks anymore, attacks rely on context and allow newer players to combo more easily to even the playing field against players with more traditional experience.

@@noa670 in a party context sure, but there’s plenty of people that have invested many hours into learning and getting better at Smash Bros. In a way, Smash Bros having normal attacks, tilt attacks, and smash attacks is kind of like how SF has light, medium, and heavy attacks - except in SFVI it’s separated into different buttons. The universal mechanics are going to take EVERYONE time to get used to because there’s so many options.

​@@noa670 i mean... Duh. Smash bros was always intended to be a party game according to Sakurai, so it was extremely important to him that the game be very "pick up n play." Modern controls on the other hand feel more like they're supposed to be training wheels for new players. Some characters lose access to almost half their kit, but it works to help players understand basic concepts like neutral, footsies, and anti-airs without overloading them by making them worry about having 3 different kicks and punches, command normals, motion inputs etc.

Interestingly I’ve been seeing more pro players like Daigo interested in Modern controls with the instant supers, whereas casual players have been more comfortable playing classic (although the added ease of comboing might change that once there’s more exposure)

Glad you guys not only admitted that you were trash at fighting games, and that you both played with Modern controls for a good portion of the video, but that you also spent the opening fights just button mashing in Classic controls like the good old days. No fighting game channel is REALLY focusing on how Modern controls work right now, and the hardcore fighting game players seem to be disregarding it and calling it garbage, but it's night and day comparing playing with Modern and button mashing with Classic controls -- even if you don't know what you're doing, you're clearly doing some crazy stuff with Modern controls, which is a lot more fun to watch (and play!). Here's hoping more fans of you, Gigguk and Trash Taste in general get into SF6, because it looks like such a blast!
