And yes, he's gigantic. 11:22 The guy on the left is Onosho, who is not Ozeki, I think he's Maegashira 8. The one on the right is Takakeisho, an absolutely explosive Ozeki.

such good people all together, Felix seems to have found his crowd. Honestly the whole Japan clique (Chris, Aki, Sharla, trash taste cast, riotoro, natsuki, Kaho etc) are all so down to earth, and kids at heart with good standards. If there was any group of people that I'd realistically want to hang out with and get to know it's the whole Japan crew!

Enho is the best! My parents have been watching every sumo tournament since 2018 when we visited Tokyo, Osaka & Kyoto for vacations. They fell in love with it there (didn't have a chance to watch it live like you lads) and have been watching it on NHK ever since. It's definitely a goal of ours to go watch a few matches live when we go back to Japan in the upcoming years.

Enhos main advantage is that he gets to fight men who are bigger than him all the time, so it's a scenario he is used to, whereas most of the big guys rarely get to fight someone smaller, only the older competitors, with a lot of experience know how to handle him, and when he is up against someone like that you can see him struggle.

Watching Sumo live at the event is totally exhilarating. The energy in the hall is a mix of high tension and overwhelming excitement. Even the seats in the back are worth the price. The ceremonial rituals are so much better live in person. Got a glimpse to see some on the middle rank sumo in the spectator area near the dressing room. Their sheer presence as they walk by is intimidating as they are truly giant warrior. IMHO TV and videos only give you 1% of the experience.

We went to sumo in Fukuoka, the crowds were more like Aussie football crowds and didn’t care if they’re standing and blocking your view, playing with kids ,talking to each other not watching the bouts. Your audience looks more civilised and respectful, there for the event.

The diet is not limitted to chanko nabe, rather anything they cook is called chanko and they eat a lot of nabe haha. So the traditional dish is just referred to as chanko nabe. Anyway chanko nabe is good and yes very healthy. Ura for example famously said he ate heaps of mcdonalds cheese burgers every day to gain weight. I don't recommend that though, chanko or other nutritous food is plenty. And yes of course it is an actual sports match 🙂

Have been a sumo fan since I was exchange student in Sapporo in 1982 a Takamiyama (Jesse) was my fave back then along with Asashio Wakashimazu then Chiyonofuji! The Hawaiians then dominated the sport for the next decade or so until the Mongolians took over the reins… all these years later it’s still such an exciting sport and am so glad I can pick it up here in Australia- there were at least 20-30 years when u couldn’t … attending a basho is still top of my bucket list - one day!

With the short clips Felix showed us earlier, this was a perfect accompanied drink- metaphors aside, just knowing one more thing about someone such as that he's going to be a dad can truly change one's, how can I put it, view of them. Perhaps it's just due to an increased awareness as to how much more of a happy life he's leading right now. Child or no child, seeing him having fun is making me elated and truly happy for him. Surely there's far more than just happy moments I know that of course.. there's Maya after all.. but it feels like each day is one filled with emotion to him. Even if it's only through a camera lens, that's my impression. That these memories; of elation, troubled times, fun, and kindness, are truly worthy of a lifetime. And for some weird reason I'm filled with gratitude. Perhaps because I get to partly experience the moments people vlog. So thank you

Always glad to find more people finding sumo entertaining. If you thought the last match was intense, try to watch Hakuho very last match in his career against Terunofuji. Dude IS the greatest yokozuna ever and finishes his last tournament undefeated. The guy just had his retirement ceremony recently and has been teaching promising disciples now under the name Miyagino.
