Not just Japanese made guitars, but most competition at this price point kicks Gibson's butt on everything. Eastman's completely blow Gibson's out of the water and are hand made, just as good (if not better) quality as Gibson Custom Shop, yet Trogly's response to "is it a Gibson killer?" was also "no" because Gibson loyalists typically only focus on resell value and brand name. The Eastman he reviewed after this had the same ebony fret board and rounded frets (rolled binding too!), and real mother-of-pearl inlays, and he poo poo'd all over it because it wasn't how Gibson does it and had their own body/headstock shape. The only reason Gibsons have such high resell value, is because the Gibson nutbags collectively decided to pay an arm and a leg regardless - has nothing to do with the quality. Nothing can be a Gibson killer because retired dentists will always be willing to spend $7,000 for a $2,000 guitar for the coveted "Gibson" logo. Gibson's last breath is their brand name.

A friend of mine put them on for longer than 5 years and he still playing. We are in a poor country and $10 a month (or even a gig) can add up very fast. Of course if you make money from playing it would make sense to invest on strings, but I don't make any lol. I tried many of the long life strings, and most of them last 3 months at most. Elixir is good for the investment. However, it's not for everyone.

There is no comparison between those Japanese guitars and Epiphone. The QC and quality of construction of the Edwards is on a complete different level. I find those type of Japanese guitars like the Edwards or a tokai LS 136 I had like the PRS S2. That you have a perfect construction and QC, just that they dont use the higher end woods or materials, which is fine, thats why they are cheaper. But these brands do ave higher end models and in QC the higher ones or lower ones are all fantastic in QC and construction, but they higher end models have nicer electronics, MOP inlays, fancier woods, long neck tenon, nitro and all those extra details. I've had many different LP style guitars, Heritage, Tokai, many Gibson USA, a gibson Custom Chop, Eastman SB59/v, Epiphone, and the Tokai was on another league vs Epiphone, and also in QC and details was superior to the Gibson USA for sure. QC was on par with the Heritage that was fantastic. Just as I said befr emine was the cheapest japanese so had the least fancy materials and finish (like PRS S2). But the Tokai was awesome. Actually now my only LP guitar is the Eastman, I love that guitar, has been my favorite with the Gibson CS, but the Gibson was just too expensive and I got other guitars with that money. The Tokai spec wise had a vibe very R8, cos the tokai was built to be as close as the late 50's LP, the gibsons USa I had were a Traditional 2008, a Traditional 2018 and a 2019 Special, and those Traditional are specd to be like the late 80's or early 90's les paul which are their own thing. But the Tokai was perfect in every way, no tools marks, no imperfections, no bad details. That has been my experience at least. I love Gibson, but the QC and consturction is not as good as Tokai, and Epiphone is on a completely different league than Tokai and Edwards in my experience. Epiphone still needs to catch up with PRSE SE. The new epis re cool, but still have the same issues as the epis, poor fret job, and some not so nice details in construction and QC, although spec wise they are really great though.

Since you are doing a few different brands besides Gibson Les Pauls. Could you please look at some Greco's or Burny please?

Don't forget to add a hard case too. Which the Epi comes with. They use Mahogany sourced from Indonesia. Which I believe is the same as Epi but not Gibson, of course.

The Jared James Nichols signature Epiphones are P90 loaded Customs.

P-90's may be designed for Jazz but they are so great for Rock'n'Roll !!! Regarding the black fingers, polishing compound will take several cleaning before gone in my experience. I'm surprised again and again by how how much cleaning is needed after a fret polish. FWIW

Well ESP's branding is kinda confusing, and ... they just added another brand to their roasters -- Edwards Platinum !! Can't say if it's good or bad from the marketting point of view lol. Being a J-Rock fan, I'd loved to see Navigator being featured in the channel. I've just checked their website and their Sugizo (X-Japan, Luna Sea, etc.) page push his ESP lineup down the bottom in favor of Navigator brand. Well he do play a lot more often of Navigator guitars than ESP nowaday I think. Based on the pricing, I think they put Navigator at the same level as ESP, just focus more on traditional types of guitar rather than modern ones.

I just bought 2 Edwards flying v's from a Japanses dealer. The Japanese make quality guitars! They are beautiful v's! I paid NO customs duties to Missouri. They went from Japan to Texas to Missouri in less than a week!

I've bought multiple guitars, 4 or 5, via eBay and reverb from Japan to the USA and never had to deal with any import duties or taxes. Am I an anomaly?
@PaulCooksStuff5 ай бұрын
Anecdotally it's all pretty random in the US. If it's under $800 there's no duties. Above that it depends how diligent the courier is feeling, and often they just can't be bothered. But it's not guaranteed.

MIC vs. MIJ the same price huh ? I’d take the Japanese build all day long. I’m sure those new Epiphones are fantastic but for the same money why not get something different and more bettah ? I’m interested in seeing what Trogly thinks of these or a Tokai hopefully soon too ? After watching the video and all the guy shots and you can’t tell by looking that this Edward’s is way more guitar for the money than the expensive Epiphones, just the neat wiring tells you plenty about who’s building these guitars, they take great pride in their work, I guess if you had to have Gibson PUs maybe the new Epiphones but this is a slick LP for around 1500 bucks!

I simp pretty hard for japanese manufacturing. Everything from my higher end yamaha kits, to my aerodyne bass, to my browning rifle and vortex razor optic. Excellent quality.

I believe I saw a pic years ago of George Lynch holding an Edward's Les Paul and it was striped 80s super-strat style (the joke being of course that it was Edward Van Halen's Les Paul).
