"Astley Book Farm" is worth a visit by anyone - books about all subjects at all prices! I could spend hundreds of thousands of £££££ there, if I had them Paradise. And with someone lovely like you to visit one of them with life would be all the better. That knitted top and skirt is perfect on you

We're so lucky in the UK to have such intact historical places. Believe it or not there's a 75 - 100ft sandstone cliff face / hillside that drops directly into my back garden at the top of which is a mostly ruined 11th century castle which I can see from any of my rear facing windows. It's nothing like as touristy as Alnwick etc since only the gatehouse and outer wall really survived the battles and scavanging of stone over the centuries but there are some plaques inside it explaining some of the history of our area and the old intact gatehouse, which originally became the local courthouse, was eventually converted into a rather nice pub a long time ago. I actually have a LARGE bible in my house that was originally from the chapel that stands next to the castle which was visited by King John. Apparently the old sandstone church on the site of the original chapel, which is still in use, wasn't too interested in said bible as they're not all that uncommon being early printed versions and therefore relatively mass produced for the time so my dad who worked at the church rescued it from a water leak in an adjacent building and I was able to keep it. :)

That feeling you had while talking to the Vegetali server, is something that might be helpful to experience more often. Rejecting the normalization of violence toward animals, questioning human supremacy/speciesism and having the compassion needed to act on one’s empathy can be extraordinarily isolating. A tiny percentage of people become and stay vegan. Connecting with each other can be heart warming. Same for anyone living/working to end other forms of oppression and supremacy. Finding one’s tribe contributes to contentment. Not trying to turn this into a vegan channel…you saying getting things off your chest resonated with me and probably any/every vegan who listened to you :)
@stevecooper3510Ай бұрын
The Vegetali owner converting a horse trailer clearly has a sense of humor!
@missnancysdayoffАй бұрын
You’re absolutely right I’d be the first to admit I really have not found my tribe and sometimes it’s a struggle not being around anyone who feels exactly the same. I’d love to connect with more vegans, I think I’d be happier it can be a lonely road. I mean I know there’s loads out there just not in my sphere.
@stevecooper3510Ай бұрын
@@missnancysdayoff Companion animal welfarists do wonderful but hard work of rescuing dogs, cats, birds, horses. However, in my experience and the stats demonstrate, most of them have little or no empathy/compassion for farmed animals. The same goes for conservationists/nature lovers who do essential work/volunteer to protect the environment and wildlife, plants. All of these wonderful people make real differences in the lives of animals. Generally, people who work/volunteer at farmed animal sanctuaries have the broadest sphere of moral concern that includes all species (although some could do more to minimize the harm to wildlife that results from farmed animal rescue). Most farmed animal sanctuaries welcome volunteers whose availability to work may range from daily/weekly/monthly or even just on the occasional work party days focused on special projects. Imo it’s the more comfortable way to connect and make new friends compared to vegan meet-up groups.

You were only 30 miles from me. I was going to say that you should have called in for tea but in fairness, no-one is welcome for tea at 7.30AM 😁 Also, if you ever come again, Barter Books does brilliant chip sandwiches. And the pronunciation leaves out the "l" and "w" so it's pronounced "Anick Castle"

I like your taste in music with your videos now , wise move to incorporate music within your vlogs or blogs which every narrative is correct, life is a marathon not a sprint being first means not a lot really ,

Thanks! Well I try but it’s not always possible, feels good finding something that works though, haha well yes I guess I was just greedy for the castle all to myself which was clearly never going to happen!

@@missnancysdayoff I will add a song if there’s not the appropriate one available or useable , The beach looked lovely , The Author James Joyce is a good read if you’re into books = The Michelangelo of the written word , he might not be your cup of tea , much better though with an Irish coffee one thinks , hope all is well with you , relaxing is a state of mind not a quest, take care you = me .

If I ever get back to the UK I will go to Alnwick Castle - especially now that I know there is a vegan food café! We wanted to get to the castle last time I was there but we ran out of time ⌛️

I definitely MUST go to that brilliant book shop!

Oh my, what an amazing post. The photography slaughtered David Attenborough's best ........ and that bookshop. Do they have a wood fire and hot chocolate? If so, Im hibernating there over winter. A little piece of heaven. As for the castles......love those as well. The best castle I visited was Krak des Chevaliers - stunning, in my opinion, but was a long drive to get there. Ive just spent the last week hiking - you clearly had the good weather as it was tipping down over Dartmoor, but I was able to wild swim as the waters were in flood.I need to get back there before Christmas. This video is going to create a challenge for you to beat - but once you are able to introduce Carolyn K's character alternative then you will have the best of the best. PS I keep meaning to see HP's films but never seem to get around to watching them.

Thank you! So kind. I’m sure they had hot chocolate, not sure about the fire but I’d like to think so, unless open flame is a hazard to the books?! Lucky you Dartmoor one of my favourite places, where did you swim, I’ve so many more spots to try out there. Ah yes that is going to be a really special day 🤞 the films are good but it’s really about the books, I remember rushing to the bookshop to collect my copy as soon as it came out and staying up all night reading it. Much more important than films ❤️

@@missnancysdayoff I went to Castle Drago first before hiking a 31 mile loop around Okehampton range with a wild water swim near Meldon. We, Rudi and I, always seem to find stunning places to camp - absolutely love doing this and intend to do so through the winter. No such thing, as Wainwright said, as bad weather; just bad clothing (not sure Im entirely convinced but can accept the concept).
@missnancysdayoffАй бұрын
Wow that’s a long walk sounds great though. I think I need to do my first wild camp soon, maybe Dartmoor is the place
@chrishamilton2527Ай бұрын
@@missnancysdayoff be wary; wild camping can become addictive. Dartmoor is one of my favourites as it’s easy to get to (along with North Wales, Cumbria, Scotland etc etc 😂) I’m back there early November so will keep a weather eye open.

@chrishamilton2527 sounds like an ok addiction! Hope I don’t freeze to death might have been easier to start in summer, I don’t have any fancy gear. Better try to go before it snows!

Footnote: regarding books. "There are those who own my favourite ever book and those who will own i"t. And the winner is...... The Book Thief. I beg you to read it, if you haven't already. It'll move you to tears. It did, me. (yes. That comment originally referred to The Hobbit). I too am bookish. This gets better with every vid I watch. I could live in that library there.
