As a nurse i am disgusted by the treatment she got! No one deserves this kind of treatment no matter how wrong or stubborn a patient maybe. No patient should vomit continously without any medical intervention and especially after any type of surgery. Esthers case seem to have been worsened by the pressure that was being exerted by the excessive puking this pushing and loosening the already weak stomach muscles.. my take to Esther and any mother going through any type of surgery. 1.) Always have an extra pillow which you can use to exert pressure incase of a cough, sneeze . 2.) It is always very important to have a bowel movement or fart after a surgery no matter how small before discharge otherwise it can be fatal and it will eventually come out through the mouth or nose in form of vomit. 3.) When the doc discovered the intestines were out someone should have used a cling foil type of bandage to keep the intestines moist and protected from any germs as they await emergency surgery. 4.) Always watch out for signs of infection in either a wound or in the body. Anything from tenderness, pain on the area. fever, redness or smelly discharge. 5.) In Esthers case i would have hoped the doctors put a stomibag to redirect the bowel as the treated the wound. 6.) That wound should have been covered with a clear bandage and been left open to allow the skin to heal or be strong enough to be able to hold the sutures without tearing while being reviewed regularly under the supervision of the surgeon. 7.) Esther is now moving around with a vacuum which is removing the waste from her stomach, someone should have taught her how to manage it without the regular weekly visits to help her save on costs. 8.) The skin sorrounding the stomach looks very weak and even if they try to close it up now it will get infected and she will be back to square 1. Esther should also be on some type of antibiotics as a preventive measure to keep any infection away. 9.) Please note that this is my free advice which i would give to any patient that comes my way and things i would demand from my surgeon. Am just a nurse who treats and thrives in treating wounds and watching the body heal. I wish i had met Esther while i was home a few weeks ago. 10.) Do a bacteria culture or swab to know which type of bacteria you are dealing with and cause of treatment! It shall be well, that wound will heal and she will heal but it will take sometime so patience is key too.

This story is shocking 😧 it should go viral so that the doctors at St Mary’s be held accountable and pay for the great negligence against this woman. Who knows how many more have been exposed to those incompetent, unprofessional excuse of doctors and nurses. As a mother and a nurse I cannot wrap my mind around such atrocities. The resident doctor made an error, but that is why the attending was there, but wait…. he was sleeping! because human life is a big joke to him. Please let these criminals pay for the pain and suffering they have caused this woman and her family.😤

I remember we once almost lost a teenager (my nephew) who was undergoing surgery to remove a full appendix. He was supposed to show improvement after surgery but his health was deteriorating daily. We would request nurse daily to speak to the doctor and air our concern but she was rude and claimed that the boy was pretending. The day i visited him and found him struggling to breath and he could not recognize us, three days after surgery, i chose violence. I wrote on st marys face book page and messenger and told them that if the boy died, we blame them and that i had videos of the rude nurse. By that evening, the senior surgeon took up the case and operated on him again. Apparently, the appendix had burst while they were removing and some stuff had been left behind. So the boy had a major infection and was almost going. My threats saved him. The matron called me in her office to sijui warn me against posting such things. I learned of this because the boys parents went on my behalf. I called and told her that my message on social media had saved that boy and hang up.

As a nurse I feel ashamed of the profession though I don't practice in Kenya. This is total negligence, inhumanity and lack of compassion. Listening to the story the doctors were incompetent and there is no duty of condor in kenya. When things go wrong doctors should alert the patient. So sad and painful for this family. As i listen to this story, i feel she is referring to me because I am a nurse much as she refers to a midwife who did not treat her as expected 💔.. We as nurses need to find time every day we leave work and reflect on how bad we are handling our patients because it's the only way we are going to improve.. I can't imagine what she went through, every child brings different changes after birth, so we should never refer to previous deliveries or take our patients to be ignorant . Much as they are not medical they understand , there is need to change our way of doing things .. The best way to be better is always to see all patients as our Relatives because honestly we hurt them so much that we can never pay for the pain we put them through.. Dear Lord grant US the grace to love and care for our patients with kindness...🙏🇺🇬 I am touched 💔💔

Both deliveries were through Cs and having had a successful one the first time, the twins were different case. I almost lost my wife.... She stayed in theatre from 9am till 2pm and took her almost two days to recover.she would here the nurses advising the doctor in charge of the operation on what to do thanks to God it she is alive. She was shivering and vomiting and she couldn't even walk....watching esther 's story brings me back the memories like it was yesterday...... The level of negligence in that hospital is dispicable, its a disgrace to the hospital after having so much trust in them then they ruin your life.... I told the doc I could still feel my legs, he stopped and spoke to the anaesthiologist, after that they injected my spine 7times but the drug wasn't working. It was so hard for me and at some point I panicked. I stayed in theatre for 2 and a half hours instead of 30min. The doctors were very good though and they kept reassuring me. Finally it worked and they successfully delivered my baby. This is neema hospital at kahawa sukari. I am grateful to God as well as the doctors for taking their time to ensure the procedure was done in the most careful manner and for even looking after my baby and discovering she had extreme jaundice. This prolonged my stay in the hospital by another 2weeks but all that mattered to me was my baby's safety
