The sequels, for better and for worse, focus more on action than anything else, but this scene is the perfect reminder that James Cameron conceived this more as a horror film than anything else; the Terminator is just as damn near unstoppable as Jason or Michael Myers, when you think about it.

Worse. Freddy, Jason, Michael, none of them could actually put down the Terminator. Doesn't eat, doesn't sleep, "Doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear."
@slyguythreeonetwonine31724 ай бұрын
The Terminator has always been a Sci Fi Slasher Horror film. It was a "B" budget film, shot in the early 80s by "that guy who made Aliens". That same guy started his career working for Roger Corman. The 800 series is essentially Jason, Michael, Freddy, all the classic " indestructible baddies". Just with a heavy Sci Fi twist. If you watch this movie long enough, near 34 years for me, you don't really see Arnie in it at all anymore, you just see the 800 series. I still argue this is his best film.

Yup but you have to admit that one can say that the second movie might be better just like aliens might be better than the first. Great movies with great second sequels.

@@johncane4507 Cameron's genius is that he knew that you had to alter the genre for Aliens and T2. You can't get the same level of suspense and terror once the villain is known and has been defeated once. He has the heroes prepared for and knowledgeable about the threat, then ups the stakes and alters the challenge.

When I think about it, it might of actually succeeded if it chose to wait. Eventually Sarah would of had to come outta the police department. And T-800's are the perfect infiltrators, it literally had a better opportunity just by waiting.

It was NEVER "just" the line "I'll be back" that was iconic.... it was the DEVASTATION that was shown AFTER saying the line that made it iconic.

1:46 There's just something about that shotgun kill that feels particularly vicious. Not sure why, but it always makes me wince.
@antonioarreola30974 ай бұрын
It's probably because the cop was running away after giving the other cops coveringfire. In that moment, he wasn't an active threat.
@ShingenNolaan4 ай бұрын
Not vicious. Methodical. The way T-800 is going through the station is just as it was programmed to do. Room by room, spot by spot. that's the scariest part. No emotion whatsowever. Just calculated action.

Lt. Traxler: “We got 30 cops in this building.” Mossberg from Terminator 2:” These were taken by a video surveillance camera, at the Westtown police station, in 1984. He killed 17 police officers that night. Men with families, children.“ This scene is my favorite because it shows a nearly unkillable, deadly machine like the T-800 model is. And Sarah’s only safest place in LA is no more when a relentless killing machine is hot on your tails. James Cameron’s The Terminator is the definition of a brutal horror-thriller sci-fi!
@tenjenk2 ай бұрын
The scene was also well portrayed. The cops kept getting killed because they were making natural assumptions about their target. That shooting a human with a revolver or emptying your rifle would take them down but the terminator was not reacting like people were, it just shot back. No one survived to pass that on. It was hardly even flinching even to automatic fire. Taking cover? It's calculating your path and position when you move behind walls and shoots through them.

There was a lot of nerdish debate among firearms enthusiasts when this movie was released. Some felt it was a smear that Hollywood implied machine guns could be purchased over the counter at an average gun store. Others pointed out that it wasn't stated anywhere in the dialog that the guns were select fire though in the real world those in the hands of the police may have been. The Terminator, itself a machine, may have been capable of moving it's trigger finger fast enough to emulate a machine gun while firing what would have been a semi-auto in the hands of a flesh and blood human. Just a window on the crap we were preoccupied with before the internet was invented.

Everyone here was watching the wrong version of this classic. Will there ever be just one reactor - ONE FIRST TIME REACTOR - that will actually watch the original untampered audio version of “The Terminator” the way it was meant to be seen?!!! Otherwise, these people have still yet to see the original Terminator.
