Inside every little dog... there's a *BIG* dog trying to get out. I've witnessed a GSD, minding its own business, calmly walking down the street with its owner in town & being threatened with death and destruction by Yorkies, Chihuahuas & sundry other tiny terrors. My cousin's Yorkie attacked a huge GSD by the throat! It's the Napoleon complex - they go through life convinced that everyone else is dead scared of them.

Even those with excellent breeding and care tend to be extremely prone to fear, and this in turn begets a number of problematic behaviors. Some of'em are also just plain aggressive without having the fear motivator. Sometimes they become possessive of their owners to the point of aggression. There are lots of potential causes, many of which are part of the breed rather than a result of environment. Yeah, you can usually train them out of it, but it requires far more effort than most other breeds. ....And sometimes, depending on the dog, it just doesn't work. Despite what people like to say, not every dog can be trained out of every behavior.

Omg, this is my 15 yr old Chi, but he has NO teeth. Grumpy and dramatic but loves he’s my baby boy who loves me more than food, and that’s saying a lot. My partners grandmother had a chihuahua named Peewee who hated everyone except she and I. The whole family was stunned. When I came over he’d hop off her lap run over to me and stand on my knee like he was king of the mountain. He hated any part of his body touched besides his head so massaging his lil head was the funniest thing he’s make happy little growling noises and he won my heart, before him I met a different chihuahua named Johnny who came over to me and bit me for just being in his house. Peewee convinced me all Chis aren’t evil.

Honestly, I feel like chihuahuas can be really sweet dogs. They're just often not taken seriously because they're tiny and their outbursts are seen as funny when the same behavior on even a slightly bigger dog would immediately be seen as dangerous, and owners would take their training more seriously. Chihuahuas are very smart dogs and just as sensitive as any other breed. They're not toys :( they'd also like some boundaries and need socialization!

They really are. I owned two chihuahuas and both times, they were surprisingly chill, if snobby (unless youre their favorite person). They only bark at other dogs but they tolerate humans, mostly cuz they get uppies (which makes them feel tall), cuddles and snackies

We have never had a chihuahua before. We adopted a senior dog (I found her on the rescue site). We met her at Pets Mart. She had been viciously attacked by another dog and nearly died. We were told that she was gentle and was originally returned because she bit the guys girlfriend, which they didn't believe. She bit me twice when we first bought her home, nipped my husband's chin and protected our backyard like she was Godzilla by kicking up the dirt with her back leg. Two years later, her person is my husband, she growls at us every now and again, doesn't bite and we have learned her language. We have adopted many dogs , my favorite are cocker spaniels, but this old girl has added heaps of spice to our family and we absolutely love her.
