Gjirokaster is a city in Albania that will absolutely steal your heart. I was not prepared for the incredible beauty that is hidden in this city. From it's traditional homes scattered on the mountainside, the idealic streets of it's UNESCO Old Town and its absolutely stunning fortress rising high above the city, Gjirokaster is a destination you will never forget. I hope you guys will enjoy this city guide alongside some beautiful drone shots! Make sure you don't miss it! xx

@@eww4762 Enver Hoxha did have good and bad sides. Yes he did killed some that wanted revolt, but he did develop Albania's economy and military. In his time Albania had 100 000 soldiers and good weapon and organisation. Today Albania has not even 20 000 active soldiers.

I don't know how you find these places, Alina! But I have to say this place leaves me speechless. So much history there also, and preservation of buildings and a lot of the contents inside are breath taking. I am so happy that you get to experience this place, and I don't blame you a bit for calling the castle your favorite. The blue hole is a new discovery for me, we do not come close in the United States to have any such marvelous place to experience. Once again, like always, you hit the mark straight on in showing your marvelous photography of what I consider heaven on earth.. your drone work is top notch, and I hope some day you will show me and a lot of us how to accomplish the many miracles you capture using that kind of capturing that you are so good at. Be safe, and keep smiling,,, it is the highlight of any video you show to see the wonder in your eyes when you share so well. Cheers !!!

We spent three nights in Gjirokaster and it was a delight. We stayed in the resort shown in the last minutes of the video. The video does not do it justice it was at that time open only for 4 months and the views are spectacular. The rooms and service are first class. It was my fourth visit to Albania and the highlight overall having seen most of the country.

Lots of undiscovered treasures! My favorite is probably the Blue Eye. Few places outside swimming pools have that deep blue color and it seems like a mirror of the sky. Girocaster is one of those mountain towns that reminds one of the pleasures of touring. If this is your first time as it was for Alina, this isn’t your typical tourist trap. The video showed why it deserves to be more widely known.

The city appeared for the first time in historical records under its medieval Greek name of Argyrocastron (Greek: Αργυρόκαστρον), as mentioned by John VI Kantakouzenos in 1336. The name comes from the Medieval Greek ἀργυρόν (argyron), meaning "silver", and κάστρον (kastron), derived from the Latin castrum, meaning "castle" or "fortress"; thus "silver castle". Byzantine chronicles also used the similar name Argyropolyhni, meaning silvertown. The definite Albanian form of the name of city is Gjirokastra, of which derives from the Greek name. (WIKIPEDIA).

I have one other option for to explained dhe etymology about the name Gjirokastër. Aργυρο(Ancient Greek)- Aσήμι(Today Greek)-No etymology from greek language. Argjënd(Alb)- gold white - etymology from albania language means ar(gold) + gjiri i gruas që nxjer qumësht të bardhë(the breast of the woman who produces white milk). This is also supported by the legend of the Gjirokastra castle. Thank you Alina.

Beautiful city, and one of your most elegant videos. When I was very small in the 1960s I fixated on Albania, but the country remained closed all during my peak travel years.
