They all knew each other well. For supposedly Christian folk, the engage in some behavior similar to non- religious people. The drinking, the sex, you name it. So, let's not get it twisted. Sam and Barbara appeared to have an open marriage. While Sam was openly seeing other women, Barbara was openly seeing a bartender in a local LA bar. So, who can you blame? See book called Dream Boogie, The Life and Times of Sam Cooke. It seems that Sam only married Barbara because they had three kids. Linda, Tracey, and baby Vincent.
