For non-PTZ I tend to like the Elgato Stream Cam. I typically use a mirrorless camera with HDMI capture when I stream, but if I want a simple setup with similar performance to a very expensive camera then the Elgato Stream cam is what I set up :)

The best I can tell, it does retain things like position settings. Color settings appear to go back to auto though. My Elgato cam does have that settings retention option and it comes in handy at times. Maybe another revision will add a "save to camera" option for those kinds of things down the road!

How does it preform heat wise? I was looking at a Sony a6000 a lot of streamers like them because they don’t get hot 🥵 on 3 hour streams. I’ve seen them used for about the same price. Also how is the zoom for bench videos? It does a pretty good job on your face though lol thanks for sharing it’s definitely a good camera 📷

It actually runs pretty cool! I have those heat issues with my Alpha sometimes, but for a mirrorless it does do a pretty good job of staying running even during long webcam mode sessions. For sure this will never beat the quality of something like a mirrorless Sony, and especially when it comes to zoom. Optical zoom always wins hands down since you aren't losing any pixel resolution for the zoom amount. Downside on optical though is often times it means a lens swap to get the focal distance just right for the kind of aperture you want on a shot. It is pretty easy to wind up with a pretty budget oriented body/sensor and still have thousands of dollars worth of lenses to snap on for different shooting conditions.

The camera itself does, but unfortunately their software only works with Mac or windows :( you could essentially operate the whole thing with voice or remote though and not use the software at all, which should work with Linux just fine.
