The movie has kind of a sad undertone when you think about it. Don Knotts' character is basically lonely and kills himself (in the human world) to pursue a better life. It's all about perception, but there is surely a dark undertone of death in this movie, but it is an all-time favorite of mine from my childhood.

it certainly didn't help that Henry's wife Bessie mistreated and dominated him. If you look at it from a positive perspective, they were not meant for each other and were both given a second chance to find their happiness Limpet with Ladyfish and Bessie with George. I loved this movie. I was born in '92 to a teen mom (15 at the time), but my grandparents had a very large part of my upbringing. Actually my whole family did. "It takes a village" really fits in my upbringing. My grandparents made sure that they brought me up on music from the 20s up to the 70s. My mother took on from 80s to the present music at the time. When it came to movies, my grandparents made sure that they had my sister and i watch the oldies - the classics. The Sting, Rogers & Hammerstein (SP?), My Fair Lady, Carousel, Oklahoma, The Sound of Music, The King and I, State Fair, Fiddler on the Roof, Wizard of OZ, Laurel and Hardy, Gay Purree, The 7 Heads of Doctor Lao, Jack the Giant Killer, The Saint, The Three Stooges, etc. This movie was one of my favs for sure!

"Be careful, be careful, be caaaaarefulll...." This is, upon reviewing for the 20th time, quite a well-done transformation sequence, both magical and a little frightening: the setup into this nautical Wonderland rests entirely on Don Knotts's soul-selling wish. The scene darkens- except for the rather Satanic purple and green spotlight, the score becomes creepily suspenseful, and yes, he does reach way, way forward of the pier (which would indicate he jumped rather than accidentally fell in), then the switch from live action to animation is a bit creepy with the skeletal flashes of light.
