TechYK As a Canadian who did live in the States for several years and married an American it is true that their is no tax on lotteries or gaming. The higher taxes you refer to includes universal healthcare so everyone is covered whether rich or poor. If you add what many Americans pay for their healthcare on top of their income tax it is pretty comparable to most States except those states who don’t have state tax. There are a few states such as NY and California who pay more

I think the smartest thing to do when you find yourself in that situation is to call or message every single person that you knew back in school and all of your distant relatives on Facebook or Instagram and ask them for money because you can’t pay rent or something like that because then you’ll find out who is real or not after you announce that you won the lottery. So that way when they come asking you for money when they find out that you won the lottery you can just easily reject them with no guilt.

Alex Pasko I wasn’t factoring taxes. I was only converting Canadian dollars to U.S. dollars. The taxes however depend on where you bought the ticket. In the U.S. everyone has to pay the federal rate, but depending on where you’re at you may also have to pay state and even a local tax. Some states in the U.S. you only pay the federal rate. It can make a huge difference.

I'm happy for the guy, but at the same time I want to hear this happen to the single mother/ single father with 2-4 children working for $25,000 -$30,000 a yr with $$$$$ in debt who now has the opportunity to get out of debt, poverty and create a great life for herself/ himself and the children. This guy and his wife were already winning in life with $300,000 a yr income 🤷‍♀️

Im a single mom. I live below the poverty level and its not a lot but I am foster home for a dog which I enjoy. I also with my son sponsor a non adoptable cat at a no kill rescue that is 11 dollars a month. I look for ways every day to do what I can even if its simple like opening a door for stranger or helping a mom with kids or picking up trash at a park or somewhere. Im a certified nursing assistant and I do get paid but its also my vocation/calling. Taking care of the elder generation is important.

I would say that winning money can be a blessing and a curse. most people can’t handle having too much money. And many lose it all in a few years. There Attitude Remains the same with of without the money

"Trained to do" is the key word if the day. How about discovery of innate talents set by knowledge not normally taught in schools but by people who have special "strength" as in " Now discover your strengths"(book, program) and others talents. Learning even from successful "autism spectrum" people.

The guy did win fair and square. I feel like it’s better that this guy won compared to the majority of players who win as they squander it all within a year. It’s good this guy consulted a financial consultant before spending.

after he paid off his debt lets assume he has $800k left. if he invested all of that for 30 years at a 7% return he would have over $6m. if it was a 12% average return which dave uses in examples but i think is a bit unrealistic, he would have almost $24m! thats assuming he doesn't invest any of the massive $330k income he and his wife have. if he lives on 100k a year and invests 220k and the 800k lottery winnings he would have $29m from a 7% average return or 86m if he gets a 12% average return. either way, if he invests he will retire very wealthy and still have a large budget for life expenses from today onward. this dude is indeed very lucky.

You never met anyone who gave money and regretted it? Hello! Nice to meet you. I am so glad I am your first. The amount of damage my family and former friends did to me because I did as asked and helped them with money is unbelievable. I regret giving any of them a penny. It bred entitlement in them beyond belief. They started fighting among themselves who should get more out of me, assaulted each other, played me for more, and in the end I became the devil for saying 'No, no more'. Now they don't talk to me or each other. I found out I was surrounded by wolves. So, yes I regret giving them anything.

Put half that amount in a good dividend ETF. Receive passive income forever. Use the passive income to pay down debts and the rest for whatever you want. You’ll never have to touch the principal amount.
