I wear a black v-neck every day (I, too have 20 of them). People think I "dress up" when I wear a grey one, because they're so used to it. It's a fascinating phenomenon, I get compliments anytime I wear anything different because it catches their eye

@mercai
@mercai 3 жыл бұрын
@@PuppyTheTiny Why stop there? Why risk *running out of* your favorite t-shirt because of some weird combination of coincidences? Why risk getting the shirt *discontinued*? Seriously. And also, as some get worn out from constant use and washing, you can just replace them with backup ones from the stack. It's a win/win, and only costs you a little bit of shelf space.
@DigitalNomadOnFIRE
@DigitalNomadOnFIRE 3 жыл бұрын
Why 20? How do you integrate new ones? I think it's nice to have a batch of 'new' looking t-shirts, then older ones to sleep in or wear in the house.
@billklatsch5058
@billklatsch5058 3 жыл бұрын
@@PuppyTheTiny If you have 1, you are washing it every day thats 356 washes per year. If you have 20... you can calculate yourself how often you wash the indiviual one. The whole bunch will stay "new" for a way longer time, you dont wear the indivitual shirt very often, what reduces wear greatly. On top you might be able to get a discount when you buy a lot (of stuff you need anyways and have the room for). Im not that extreme and i like variation, i usally buy sets from 4 to 8 but its noticable already.

@Crustee0
@Crustee0 3 жыл бұрын
@@emilyjackson1819 nothing wrong. But as matt points in the video, very few people do notice (and make it a conversation point) if u wear either the same color or different one everyday. If you enjoy making yourself fashionable, thats fine. But personally, i find that taking minutes to choose what clothes to wear is just tiring because i dont really enjoy fashion that much. The time i could save per day might not be much, but lets say i can save those extra seconds or even minutes for 300 times over a year, thats massive time. Its all about multiplication when it concerns smth you do everyday.

I always think this, however I live in a climate where it’s warm for most of the spring and summer but wet and colder in the winter, but rarely freezing and if it is it lasts a day or two and I rarely have seen snow. Because of my dislike for certain textures and the feel of excessive baggy clothing I never wear layers, so basically if it’s cold I wear a long sleeve T shirt, suck it up and embrace the freezing nipples..

Oh, mate, you outdid me. I wore the same black dress for a year at University once.... I have other clothes but I just wanted to wear my "thinking dress", so I could stay focussed, concentrate, avoid distractions. I was always neat and clean and I carefully washed and ironed it, but despite all my pains to try and be clean, socially acceptable, not smelly and dirty, everybody still complained about fact that I wore same black dress everyday. I don't know why. I wasn't hurting anybody. I was doing a my assignments etc as required. Even one of the academics asked me if I had a problem since I appeared to be "grieving". I just gave him a compassionate, concerned, bewildered look and tried "No. I'm fine. Are you OK?" That caught h of guard and he stammered and stuttered, replying "Well, yyyes, of course... ". I could te he was perturbed about my black dress. So I reassured him all was well and tried "Well, that's nice to hear... I get a lot out of your very enlightening lectures... " He recovered his wit and joked "Well, that's good to hear. I hope they are not do enlightening and bright that their light of wisdom dazzles you and causes you to take refuge, by wearing that same black dress I notice you have worn every single day this academic year...". I reassured him that I could handle the light of his wisdom. That night I washed my black dress as usual and hung it out to dry. By morning it was gone. Some student had taken it as a trophy to win some bet he had with another who souvired it. When I realised my black dress was gone forever, I felt so angry and devastated and genuinely depressed. I just could not face the day without it. I missedlectures and just stayed in bed in a darkened room all day pondering life without my favourite black dress. Eventually I found a bright red one to emerge into the daylight in. I felt like a freak on public display and as soon as they saw me in a red dress they all cheered. It took me ages to readjust. After wearing the same comfortable old familiar dress every day for a year. It can be done. But I like to own other outfits, too, even if I seldom wear these. It enables me to feel "open to possibilities, opportunities...".When I wore black everyday I had deliberately planned to cut off all other possibilities for my life. No boyfriends, no partying, no fooling around, nothing. I was simply going to just do nothing but study. I had come from a very deprived background and was lucky to be at uni. I knew I was disadvantaged and needed to work harder than the rest because I was from a poor rural government school, not some prestigious urban private school. So I couldn't be like them. Plus I had no parents to pay my way and had to work in factories etc to get money to live on, in the times when uni students had to pay full tuition fees and there were no student loans like now. So wearing my same black dress everyday like a uniform did not bother me one bit. I could design and sew fine fashions and knew that, once through uni, if I saved some money working at various jobs I had, I could easily see up a fashionable wardrobe to strut around in, which I did do and then found little jobs modelling hair, clothed etc in swish Melbourne downtown fashion venues etc where I could also mix with all these glamourous models etc I found bored me shitless with their utter stupidity, but I must say, some were extremely beautiful. It was an easy but boring way to get money for doing nothing, just swanning around looking beautiful.

I can't believe they just stole your clothes like that! That's so rude and uncalled for. If I ever found out who did that to me, I would absolutely make them pay a hefty reimbursement. If they tried to wriggle their way out of the consequences, I'd let them know that respecting other people's belongings and life choices doesn't cost a penny.

Because of this video I will be looking up “decision fatigue”. Thank you! I have been wondering why ever since starting our decluttering/minimalism journey why my brain has felt so exhausted. I’m assuming it’s exactly what you just mentioned. It’s so mentally taxing. Thanks for the insight.

One thing that i've found really helps (without going as far as Matt) is to find a color scheme for your wardrobe and stick to it. This tends to hit the sweet spot of allowing creative expression, but lessens the decision fatigue because everything more or less matches. That being said, you should be minimizing your closet often too.

So true, in my former workplace always seemed to be an issue that I prefer to use black pants almost single day, I do not even attend clients, so they couldn't say this affects the companies image or something like that, the owner of the firm only thought it was weird to choose to use those same color every day, but those are easy to combine with different blazers and they look fine, I don't know what was the issue.

It probably depends on the people in her life. Like, my mom would absolutely notice. But she's one of those people who need to be told to f*ck off once in a while. I've never experienced anyone else criticizing my clothes. I don't have a lot so I wear the same combo several times a week.

Your wardrobe actually inspired me to try this (can't believe they're discontinuing your shirt. It's the end of an era!). I've been wearing the same thing almost everyday for about a year now, and I've noticed a lot of the same benefits: the simplicity, the effortlessness, the compliments when I wear ANYTHING different on a laundry day (even just a different colored shirt lol). It's been nice having such a simple wardrobe, but I actually think I'm gonna stop soon. I miss experimenting with clothes and having fun with outfits. I still want some simplicity so I'm gonna try choosing a color palette and then sticking with that so I have more variety but still maintain some simplicity.

I started the one outfit system about 4 months ago, after thinking about it already 4 years! After watching one of your videos about it aaaaand: yes ppl don't give a s**t what u wear, as long as it's clean & doesn't smell! Might even be a big benefit, depending on your workplace : talk to the guy on the bright blue t-shirt becomes the best way to describe you. Ppl (also you kids) can easily find you in a crowd.... And man my more advantage! I love it!
