I think detangling with shampoo starts to work for you once you surpass a certain length. The weight of the hair and distance from the root.

Nah I have long hair and detangling with shampoo doesn't work AT ALL. It depends on your hair type and if your hair web easily or not.

I have short low porosity 4c hair and in order for me to get all the gunk out of each little tight coil strand, I definitely have to detangle with shampoo. I've noticed when I don't, build up is still on my scalp or hair. ❤😊
