There's been a lot of talk about Clive looking like a soulcalibur character, and as a soulcalibur player... nah Clive is lame. Anyway, I'll be playing Clive to TG when he releases or whatever at twitch.tv/sesujin God I'm dissapointed. When's VF6 getting released again?

Yea dude like Sony and Spiderman I mean I'm sure it's a case of square doesn't want to give access to one of their best intellectual properties to another company but square thinks maybe if they allow Namco to use this dude from one of their less popular FF games they can get like 5 more people to buy their latest FF game. I mean I'm sure Namco knows how much ppl like me would cream themselves if they could get solid snake (honestly I did a little when jin said "kept you waiting" but I'm sure Konami for no good reason at all is like "fuck you" to Namco whenever they ask. I don't know why but it's like suits in the legal department of these companies have their reasons so it is what it is even tho it's like, Konami could generate a lot of much needed good will in the gaming community if they gave Namco the rights and yea square would too but it is what it is, blame the suits in legal really for Clive, but ur right about the stage it does look like ass

Personal Bias: I can’t *wait* for Clive. Despite the flaws of 16, I enjoyed the grand majority of it and it’s in my top 20 all time. Seeing him get put in the game and not being held out for a soul caliber game that will more than likely never happen is great. Can’t wait to (hopefully) have Find the Flame playing in stages too. That out of the way, the second obvious thing: Tifa was nigh *impossible* to get in the game. I wouldn’t be surprised if Blue Protocol is still hurting Bamco, and if the asking price was just straight up too high, so they settled with Clive instead, which is reminiscent of what they did with 15 in T7. Game was doing bad, so they stuffed him into a fighting game to do a bit of double promo. In the case of 16, the sales were fine, game a bit “controversial”, but to SE, the sales were bad (probably because it was console exclusive for about 6-12 months but hey what do I know), so putting him out there to get more sales is fine. The problem arises because of *everything else*: Why the hell would you possibly wait until the game awards (where 16 isn’t going to be there because it dropped last year and it’s DLC process has already finished), when you could of easily have dropped it during the TWT and have more hype? Why did you possibly think releasing him *after* Heihachi was going to be a good idea, after resurrecting one of the 3 faces of Tekken? To add onto to this, if you look past the initial hype of revealing Clive, that first trailer was straight garbage. A 1 minute trailer than spent 30+ seconds on Clive alone with no gameplay and showing his Domain Expansion Rage Art because every DLC character has a Domain Expansion Rage Art. I won’t comment that much on his gameplay, but I will note that from your analysis, he’ll probably be the exact same: another DLC character that’s a walking 50/50 that will probably be mid tier yet again. I only hope it’s not the case, but only because my Trio of Characters are bottom 5 Lars, Lidia, and Heihachi. So now Clive can get added into the mix, but it would be really fun if he can be very complex, because once you really got into the depth of the combat of 16, there was a lot of fun to try and pull off in combos. Overall, whoever the marketing manager is, and the higher up that said to hold the reveal til the game awards needs to be fired ASAP, because even if I’m personally very hype, the *way* this was done is easily a very bad fumble, disregarding all the negativity of people coping for Tifa, because people were gonna complain regardless of *who* it was if it wasn’t Tifa. It just so happens they went with another FF character instead.

Seth, I understand the hate for the stage and how Clive kind of blends into the stage. But, please don’t let your disappointment for the character not being Tifa blind your judgement of Clive. We had a small gameplay trailer which showed some interesting stuff but as per Lidia it’s too early to tell how Clive will actually play

@@RivalFaust I trust Ryu Ga Gotoku. I love the Yakuza series, they haven't done much of anything wrong in recent memory, and the VF5 remake has been great. I have high hopes for VF6!

Tifa will bring more players to Tekken but Clive will bring more players to FF hence probably the reason why FF didn't offer Tifa. PS: Clive looks really good

Truth is, Clive was in development BEFORE Tekken 8 even released. Licensing takes a long time and so does development. Well before the Tifa movement started.

nah you forgot that they first of all have to sell Tifa as a license and iam pretty sure they wont sell it. They pretty much got a offer list with characters bamco can have which didnt include Tifa.

Yeah this is something that came up during the stream and I cut it from the video, but basically what I said was if that's the case then imo you just don't do a FF guest character. Clive already doesn't feel like he fits in Tekken, he's not an interesting guest character, there are a ton of other guest characters that would fit better in Tekken 8 than Clive. If they were going to do a FF guest character, put one in that makes sense at least.

Re using that relationship and also reusing stuff thats already at bamco like you said some noctis, some 2b, some gerald and some weird Siegfried / Nightmare touch i felt while watching it. I feel like it was a decision based on so many factors, might even have to do with that Soulcalibur is dead af. alot of yapping from myself, but i think its just a dooropener to much more stuff the next seasons.

Capcom can reveal the entire Season Pass roster for "Street Fighter" at once cause they KNOW people will get excited either way. The reason why Namco doesn't do that is cause they are affraid no one would buy the Season Pass if they knew what characters will be included. Honestly, such a disappointment...

Clive fits the narrative of tekken 8 way better than Tifa. Hes also the new ff character. The only thing Tifa has over Clive is shes a martial artist. But they implemented his moves to fit tekken still.

I will say though.. all these visual effects and swords in Tekken kind of puts me off a little. Tekken has always been a kick and punches only kind of game in my mind.

Other than that it's basically just heat mix-ups, punishes and get them to wall H&E 2 flow chart shenanigans and repeat. I like Lidia and I think she's decently strong but that is just the plain truth as I see it. Not that much fun to play, not even a little bit fun to play against.

Well Sesujin, I for one completely agree with this take. Can't wait until Bamco announces the ACTUAL new character though, then we can all laugh about this. Hopefully in season 2 they'll give us Nightmare, Noctis, Pyramid Head, and Cloud, AMIRIGHT!? BIG SWORD ARE SO COOL OMG!!!

True, if he's fun then that's great. I don't care for FF either way, so Clive being a character is irrelevant to me, the only thing that matters is how he plays. Based on the trailer, he just looks like another victor/azucena/noctis situation though. A pretty consistant theme with Tekken 8 trailers so far is the more flashy the trailer, the more one dimensional the character is. Remember when Victor's trailer came out and everyone was speculating that he would be a super skill intensive counterpart to Raven? And it was because of how flashy his trailer was. I genuinly hope that's not the case with clive, but it's hard to not see a Tekken guest character as a boring 5 button character the Tekken team makes for new players because they think new players are stupid.

@@sesujin I mean, if it's balanced is a big ok. Bcs more players are gonna play tekken. NIna, Jin, dragunov, Yoshi; all of these characters are yes less flashy, prob less "dumb", but the fact that they are so strong makes them meh. If Clive is balanced, maybe is a no for you (like Lidia is for the 95% of the players), but it is a funny addendum for the cast of a game that really needs more players in this state. And lets speak clear, i main Lidia at gold ranks, of course is a bit sad to see other people play some stronger or easier to approach PGs, but even the easiest characters in tekken do have 100 moves and in high ranks are not so easy to pilot. Anyway, im just positive about clive and the hype about tekken 8. I think is a great game.
