I've worked a few houses in the mud and a good idea would be to take rolled hay or bales and put it all around the house and where you will be walking, keeps the feet drier and will also help with the splash back onto the house. I've been watching all along and had plenty to point out but haven't wanted to add to the comments. I think we are cut from the same cloth as I built a 3500 sq ft house for myself in 06 and had help till the second floor box and pretty much finished it out by myself. I worked my day job and worked on the house in the evenings and weekends. It took me 9 straight months with two days off, Thanksgiving and Christmas. I would get home at 9:30 or 10, get a shower and get to bed. Stay the course and step it out and whittle her down.!

I worked for 35 yrs at a one-man contracting too! Id recommend getting some pump jacks set up! It would make the siding,windows and all go much safer and faster! They are cheap and would get you everywhere you need to,just move your pick board around!

see if you can get the screws with the washer moulded into the heads. They do not mash the gasket out from underneath but instead cap down over it and pull it in tight. Upshot is, NO LEAKS EVER and your rubber seal is protected from the elements so no dry rot.

Any thoughts on finding a wrecked bucket truck/van to harvest the arm and bucket to mount on the backhoe or tractor? A light duty cable installer bucket would have no problem running off a tractors hydraulics so wouldn't even need much modifying past the 3 point hitch mounts. Faster access to the second level and can use later on when working with trees/fruit picking.

using foam board over the exterior of the walls will make the home a lot more energy efficient if done right. I would go with 2'' foam board on the outside. Will need window extensions and furring strips for the siding if 2'' is used. .Form board on the ceiling also.With windows and doors the house would be warm with just a little heat in the winter.

Normally you use wall brackets and planks. If you don't have that stuff it's going to be very time consuming. You are doing great!!!

I would give some consideration to using rigid foam on the exterior as well as interior insulation. Now is the time. Gives a great thermal break in a continuous layer. I used Tyvek Housewrap against my sheathing on my shop expansion then two layers of foam for 3" with Tyvek Drainwrap over that. Steel siding put up vertically to finish it off. I hand drove cap nails as I had heard too many stories of the stinger always jamming. How did you find it to use? Take care. Doug

We used house wrap then one inch foam on the outside, then 2 layers of tar paper, then the stucco crew used wire and then stucco. We had 2 X 4 walls. spray in foam, then another of foil backed foam on the inside. It works well except a couple drywall (nail pops) screws showing up later. We took lots of pictures but it is still hard to find the studs to hang cabinets, closet shelving etc.

Congrats! Ingenious way to install Tyvek without a helper - and one of the rare video's on KZbin showing the correct use of a Cap Stapler rather than staples! I assume you tacked your rope to the soffit and side wall or ground and did the second story the same way...

In Australia Steel Roofing for housing is common so we have Australian and New Zealand Standards for installation and maintenance. Search for Australian Steel Roofing Standards and you may find something to assist.

Wow ! I'm jealous. I hired a contractor to remove and redo the siding and insulation around the house. It took 3 guys to wrap 3 of 4 walls around the house (avg family house) and I fired the guys after 8 days when I saw their work. They wrapped my house like their first xmas gift .... Now I'm left with a badli insulated and wrapped house amnd cant find anybody to do the job. Can't believe this happened to me.

Always cut the window opening in the shape of the capital letter I. By doing so you eliminate water entering into the opening at the head of the window. Once the opening is cut you should then cut the 45 degree angels in the upper corners and flap up the tyvek before installing your window. If more information is needed contact your local Tyvek Building Envelope Specialist.

At the osb factory they paint the edges of an entire unit at a time. The top and bottom sheets usually get a lot of overspray and I think that's what we're seeing.

We don't use Tyvek in Australia, we use sarking which comes in a 4.4' roll. It is a breathable polymer backed with a woven polymer, adhesive then aluminium foil. We use it for walls and roofs where under the Building Codes of Australia, it is mandatory under tiles. It also has an R value of R0.95 in the roof and R2.75 in the wall in winter and R1.51 in the roof and R2.62 in the walls in summer. We don't skin the walls and roof and it is fastened directly to the wall studs and the rafters. We then insulater the walls and ceiling without internal vapour barriers. Tyvek is ahead of the curve? Was this filmed 15 years ago? I can think of 5 other systems that would work so much better. Especially since his house is sitting on grade. I would use fluid apply the first 3 feet all the way around. Why be in a rush to cut the plywood and tyvek at each door and window? Maybe a few for light, but get the rest sealed up. Dude waste so much time

DON'T BUY BOSTICH NAIL GUNS. Your house wrap went a lot easier than mine , I had 300 ft of wall on the duplex. I bought a Bostich staple button gun that was supposed to automatically feed the orange plastic washers but it quit working before I was half way done My Bostich finish nail gun had problems so I took both to the repair shop. the finish gun wasn't very old but repair [parts were no longer available. The rubber hose on the auto feeder was bad and the repairman said to wait for a better repair kit to be available. He had a lot of call backs with the same parts failing
