This is very embarrassing, but whatever.
I worked too hard on this video to back out of posting it now.
Tell me what you interpret the meaning as! That's one of the things I love most about poetry; it's not straightforward. It has many different lives, and they're entirely determined by the readers.
This is the first sonnet (and poem) I ever wrote, so please don't come for me.
✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥✥
Sonnet No. 1
I lie in water; wind, ripple, and wave.
My body too idle for waking now.
The cold bites skin. My elemental grave.
Eyes t’ward skies, bones stiff. Heart’s still now,
somehow.
Stomps echo; their voices only echoes.
You said I was cold, well, maybe you’re right.
Water filled me-head, toes-then winter froze,
But sunlight melts, and cracks make rigid sight.
Spring washes away my sharp, brittle home,
I feel the air move again, waves return.
Now i have a choice: to stay on my own,
Or make use of this heart that burns and yearns.
I stir my body to search, but there’s no shore.
Here isn’t so bad, alone, I’ll stay, once more.

no reason to be embarrassed, this poem is really good and has it's own vibe about the meaning - for me it describes my current state, when all possible problems came at the same time. Some weird endless agony makes me want to do at least something to fix the situation, but at the same time makes me numb

Firstly, awesome sonnet. Secondly, beautiful video. Since you asked in the description how we interpret it, sort of reminds me of that painting of Ophelia in the pond? And of living with a shield, an ice heart, to survive (or process) a harsh/tough period, to come out alone but still to come out the other side of it and melt the shield. Although to remain alone even though the shield is melted, but to be more accepting of it like having gotten more comfortable with oneself in the interim.

i saw this poem so long ago but it single handedly inspired me to get back into writing and poetry and i wrote a sonnet inspired by this one to get into a performing arts school for creative writing. i listen to this once a month for inspiration it’s a masterpiece. do you have other works

This is so beautiful! Please make more like this. Also the poem makes me think about someone who has been in a dark, cold place for so long that even when help is offered they choose to stay where they are because the dark is their comfort zone. It reminds me of my homeless patients that can't wait to get back to their tents even when we give them a warm bed and food in the winter. (I work in a city hospital) They have the opportunity to get help from us but all they want to do is go back to where they feel comfortable.
