Stephen is the only late night host who knows how to interview human beings. To ask thoughtful questions, and then to get out of the way. To listen. To be sincere and not try to overtalk the guest. To appreciate history, and to confront difficult subjects with reverence and intimacy. Over my 67 years I have always admired Elton John, and view him as a true living legend. It is so sweet to see how happy he is. This was an exemplary interview! Three great artists being authentic, and letting us watch.

Agree 100% about Steve's interviewing. Compared with those who interject, laughing at their own jokes (mostly thinking of daytime gals) and completely overshadowing any semblance we could have learned about who the interviewees really are. Probably why SNL talk show skits always give their "interviewees" about one line per sketch!

Can't stand Stephen's political shtick but his interviews of Elton shows there's more to him. It's sad to discover great interviewers from long ago on KZbin and realize it's almost a lost art today.

I have gained a respect for Stephen as a result of this interview. The way that he handled being teased by Elton, about Gaga, with such aplomb and, then, steering the conversation into the need for a break and asking Elton if he could stay for a few minutes more... What class 👏🏼

An interview for the ages. I hope Elton just goes on and on. I remember hearing ‘Daniel’ when I was much younger and being so impressed with the honesty and genuine feeling in the song. It’s gone through his whole life. I’ve stayed in a ward in a hospital, where Elton paid for a kitchen so the people there wouldn’t have to eat less than nutritious hospital food. I remember the countless concerts and fundraisers he’s done for people with AIDS. He’s a great great man, one in billions.

@@panaceiasuberes6464 Yes, Ms Carlile has a beautiful wife and family. "Ms" was invented to be a distinction that didn't mean either married or single. It was for women who didn't want to be called "Miss" or "Mrs." I meant no confusion or disrespect. From the Oxford Dictionary: "Ms: a title used before the surname or full name of any woman regardless of her marital status (a neutral alternative to Mrs. or Miss )."

Dawn was murdered by her fiancé, she was on life support for 15 years which wrecked her mum ((English phonetically written) financially, and broke my heart. I visited her in this state, rubbed Aveda hand relief on her clenched hands w dead skin that was difficult to get the smell off of mine. Every time I left, I’d say, “Dawn, I have to leave now.” She would get visibly upset and kick her legs … This man who choked her, was not brought to justice. His prior two girlfriends had restraining orders against him for choking them (MO- modus operandi), and I am working on making that happen. 😢❤

I highly recommend finding that Gershwin Prize program and watching Metallica’s version of Love Lies Bleeding. That song means a lot to me, too. I was in a one-sided relationship with a guy who did leave me, a woman, for another man. Later, I heard this guy had died of AIDS, so the Funeral For A Friend portion of the song became the music where I mourned him.

Fun fact my closest people know: Sir Elton John was my imaginary friend when I was little-beginning at maybe 5 or 6 in the early 70s-when I needed someone magical and kind to “save my life tonight” from some pretty horrible childhood traumas. I still love that he was the popular figure I felt fit that role best. Grateful…

I find so many interviewers cut off the guests and interject themselves into the conversation too much. You don’t do that and I really appreciate that about you. I also enjoyed listening to Ms. Carlisle talk about Elton and his importance on her career. He has influenced so many artists and the fact that he’s still doing it today with his podcast or music channel where he plays new music, speaks volumes about who he is as a person. Of course she has just told us how truly wonderful he is and I’m so happy to her that my feelings about him have been confirmed after all these years. I’ve loved his music all my life and I am 61 now and still love his music! It was the background of my life growing up. I hear a song and it brings back so many memories. I can’t wait to see the documentary and look forward to any new music he might put out. ❤

I love Elton! I fell in love with him as soon as I heard Your Song in 1970. I immediately had to learn it on the piano. I play by ear. My two sons grew up on his music because I played him so much. 😁 Attended his YBR concerts in ‘73 and 2018. Thank you Elton for the decades of happiness your music has given me.😘😘😘 BTW, if you happen to read this, there is a very talented young man, Doug Delescavage, in PA who grew up loving you too. He’s now living his dream doing cover concerts called Philadelphia Freedom and is absolutely amazing!!! He performs at our old theatre turned music venue here in VA a couple times a year. He dresses flashy and does the whole concert bit with loads of energy. So much fun to go to!

*The first Elton John song I ever heard was "Durban Deep" and that was because I got a copy of the Sleeping With The Past album. Greatest EJ album.*

I see an amazing personal development of a human being. Someone who has realized and still realizes his best potential by being led by Love (even thou they never mentioned This in this discussion, there is no other way to become like that without following Love). And his sight deficit just enhances this as it takes the focus off from the insignificant, so can be accepted as level up in development of the soul. I can just imagine, how amazing it is for his children to grow up in the surrounding of this Love and Wisdom. I wish them all to have much more time together.
