Well done, Abbie! 383,232 words--that's 1,050 words a day or 7370 words a week. Word count is important because it shows our commitment to sitting our arses in a chair and pumping out words. I wrote almost 100,000 words this year, mostly on my novel, a couple of short stories, and a work of creative nonfiction oriented to my clients in my private counseling practice. 2024 Goals include: (1) Write consistently 5 days a week; (2) finish my novel by summer; (3) finish the non-fiction book by summer; (4) learn what is involved in publishing and self-publishing; (5) start a local writers' group in January that meets once or twice a month. Thanks for your encouragement!

I have attempted starting a book eight times now, but always hit a brick wall around 7000 words. After being inspired to write again, I came across your channel, and it has helped me out sooo much! Structure, outline, organization, and Scrivener have freed me to write the story I want. Thanks to your help, I have written over 70,000 words in the last two months, and am well on my way to what i hope will become a great epic fantasy. I rarely make comments, very rarely, but I felt it would be an injustice to not tell you thanks... So, Thank You!

I had the same problem for a long time. I started writing when I was 12. I would start a novel and abandon it as soon as the new shiny idea came. I wrote so much and had nothing truly written. When I was 29 I said "Enough of this." That was 3 years ago. I have written 2 bad books and started my third since then. I'm 32. How old are you? What is your story?

@@lampyrisnoctiluca9904 Hey there! Sorry I missed your reply. I'm in my mid 40s, and have only ever been "good" at writing encounters, lore, and world building for many years of D&D campaigns. Hopefully, this will change once I've finished my first book. Update: I've managed to hit a new hurdle, where I have so much written now, I have to re-read to get it all back in my head before continuing. This has led to way more editing than forward progress on the draft. Anyway, just trying to power through the best I can. Congrats on your 3 books! It's easy to be self critical. I'm sure they are better than the credit you're giving yourself. Many people fail at success before they ever give themselves the chance. Success is built upon the foundation of many failures. But, in my opinion, no project is ever a failure, just another stepping stone in the path of getting better than you were before. I'd love to hear more about your progress on your current project if you get the chance. Happy writing!

I finished my first novel which ended up being only 66,230 words and started writing another one which I ended up abandoning because I didn't know where it was going. At the end of November I started writing my current WIP which at the moment has 23,000 words in it! I only started writing in 2022 and you were the first person I subscribed to for writing tips. I'm so proud of myself for finishing a book in just over three months so thank you for being such an inspiration!

I also just wanted to say the greatest thing about Abbie’s words is that she isn’t just typing “I” into a document on repeat-she’s putting her heart and soul into each and every one of these words, giving her characters good development, internal conflict, relationships, and everything else that’s necessary for making her stories matter. So numbers aren’t always the most important, but I can guarantee that on top of having a huge quantity of words, Abbie has the best quality of words you can get, too. Go Abbie!🥹

Thank you Abbie for being such a helper and inspiration with writing. This year I wrote 65,700 words for my novel and I count I wrote 28,000 words for the outlining, world building, and character profiles for that novel. This is not including my various other WIPs. It wasn't until July that I picked my focus, my YA dystopia that keeps me going. My goal for 2024 is to finish the first draft (going to be over 100k I'm sure) and work on rewriting it. I'm sure I'll need to rewrite it at least twice. If I get a good 3rd draft by the end of the year, then I will look for alpha and beta readers or go to writing workshops. The latter might be the goal for 2025.

Your videos are so lighthearted and inspiring that I wanted to thank you for all you do. As for my progress the meager number of words wrote would embarrass me so I will skip that and jump to what I see as a giant stepping stone for me. So in 2023 I wrote an excerpt (and most of a novella) for a specific publisher and IP and submitted this for the potential of being selected. This is the first querie I have ever submitted. Additionally, after a couple decades of on and off writing and not making much progress after outlining several stories and loading interest after all the tedious planning, I read a book that led to my discovery of writing ‘into the dark’ or ‘pantsing’ that made so much sense for me and made me realize my planning stage was too detailed and removed the joy of writing the story because I already saw the story in my head. Finally, from the first querie submitted, I received my first rejection letter🎉… which was very generic and not helpful as to what could be improved. Anyway, even with what appears to be failures in my writing, even stumbles are forward progress. With those out of the way my 2024 will be spent on my own IP characters and stories. Merry Christmas and Happy New Years and Rock On!🤘

This year I wrote 37,911 words in several projects including a couple abandoned manuscripts, short stories, my current project (SW fan-fic), and even a WIP screenplay! That's not a lot compared to you, but considering I'm a high-school student who often loses motivation, it's pretty good. 😅 In 2024 I really hope to up my writing game and finish my current WIP, and honestly, even though I have about 5 abandoned projects in my docs, I'm confident I'll actually finish this one because for all the other projects, I didn't know much and I didn't even plan! Finding your KZbin channel may have been the best thing to happen to me in my writing journey so far because I just looked at my first project of this past year--- the grammar is bad, there is no plot, and no good internal conflict, I didn't plan it AT ALL, and it's just a total mess! Then, comparing it to my current WIP... HOLY GUACAMOLY! 🤯 Now I know about how to properly structure my writing, I have better grammar (And just overall skills), It's planned out, and has good conflict and plot, (+enemies to lovers troupe!). Once you actually compare your old stuff to your new stuff, you can see the difference! Thanks for helping me become a better writer Abbie 🥰

Good afternoon, Abbie and enjoyed watching this last video of the year. I've written a book this year, the first draft, while also in the process of editing a book I wrote last year as well. And started creating a children's coloring book, which I'm still working on and a children's story book about a fox. I also wrote a short story which was published in an online magazine, but I left it because it wasn't what I thought. My word count for the book of this year: 37,248 words and the one I'm editing is at 17,798 words as of right now which is over 50,000 words that I wrote last year. Anyway, have a wonderful day and Merry Christmas to you and your family.

It really helped me to be focused and to keep focused even after the Nov Nano. I have no idea my year word count but I do know it is way more than it has previous years. You have given me the drive to keep writing as I often hit ruts, and pitfalls and at times want to throw in the towel. But we move on. I wrote a lot, I have no idea how many words but it doesn't matter really. I have two books I'm writing side by side, with two shorter ones that I work on when I need a change. One is romance, the other is science fiction/fantasy. I'm hoping that I'll finish the romance first. I'm in the stages of finalizing the first draft and padding it out and adding more depth, and I'm enjoying it. Both books are at about 90,000 to 100,000 words. There's still a long road ahead and to combat that I gotta stop beating myself up because I'm slow, sometimes life gets in the way. ❤ Much love to all, and I wish you the very best writing in 2024.

Love it. That's a lot of words! I've been working on my novel for 6 years though I know I haven't the talent to actually finish it, so I just plod along and do the best I can just for fun. I've estimated to have written 1.35 million HAND WRITTEN words or about 225K words/yr. avg. I don't type and typing is painfully frustrating and causes me to stop writing. I'd rather keep handwriting than getting continuously frustrated. I'm here for the fun, not the frustration. So I'll be happy continuing this project into the future. Hope your writing goes well.

Congrats Abbie!🎉🎉 Even if I didn't write as much, I realized some really important things. At the beginning of the year, I thought, I knew how to write books, but then the truth dawned on me. I have watched some of your videos, but not as seriously. In April I watched the 3 Act Story Structure series and then realized how bad my planning was. I dropped everything and started again. But then I realized I forced myself to be quick. So, in the summer, all through the 3 months I studied your writing videos, cuz I wasn't gonna give up. But then, another mistake...I waited for Preptober and didn't immediately start writing, making it less riveting and making me not want to write it. But, now armed with all this knowledge, I'm ready for 2024. I still can't believe, I started watching your videos this year...This is the first time (as long as I can remember) that I didn't break out in tears. Cuz I'm that kind of person, that starts crying if they can't do something on the first try. Really toxic, I know...But the amount of help I got from this channel, from You! It's actually crazy! November was a really stressful month and I haven't touched my brain dump folder in 2-3 MONTHS now, which is really sad. I thank all my successes of 2023 to two people: Firstly, You Abbie, cuz I wouldn't have been able to learn so much without your help. I feel like watching your vids gave me a new perspective when it comes to writing, because you have an eye for the small but important thinks in a book. I am working on a fantasy series right now and you did not just give me the courage to spread my (mostly crazy) ideas, but also made me capable of analyzing other books, films, anime etc. As it should be in a book, it feels like your lessons transformed me into a better, and more effectively working person, than I began this amazing journey. Sometimes it feels like as if I was the protagonist of the story. Merry Christmas everyone!

I currently try to write 300 words a day, 4 days a week. I am currently working on a dark fantasy novel with the core theme being corruption Can you have multiple thematic questions you intend to explore in your narrative? I hope you can do another video on writing themes in your writing. The first, and most prominent question being: 'Do traumatic experiences justify morally questionable actions, or do they challenge the notion of right and wrong?' My protagonist (the pov character for the book) is on the side of yes to that question, wherea my supporting character (the childhood friend and love interest, in essence a Captain America type character, who is a paragon of good) takes the opposite stance

When it comes to my writing endeavors of 2023, I really didn't get as far as I would've liked. This year- particularly at the end - was incredibly hectic with my cat needing a pretty major surgery and then acquiring money for that procedure, so writing was forced into a back seat. I think I ended up with less than 100k across two projects, probably somewhere around 50-60k total. I did get a good amount of outlining done with my cyberpunk trilogy, as that is my primary project as of now. I started with an urban fantasy LitRPG-esque thing that I was working on back in 2022 when I really started writing, but that was more pantsing and after a while into it I wasn't liking how it was going anymore so I put that aside and started outlining and planning out projects more, which seems to work better for me. I won't lie, 2023 was a bit of a roller coaster in the worst ways possible, and I'm excited for it to be over. I haven't made formal goals of any kind for 2024 yet, though I do plan on spending time this weekend to ponder that in depth. I think one of my big takeaways from my failings this year was I had too many goals I was pursuing at once. I had goals in reading, writing, personal fitness, and even some competitive endeavors with E-sports. I spread myself a bit too thin trying to manage them all at once and quickly got overwhelmed. So, I'll probably shoot for a smaller list of goals (maybe two or three specific things total instead of twelve like this year) and go from there. Small, obtainable things I can do daily without issue, even if things go sideways part way through the year. Though it would be nice to finally say I finish a draft...

I wrote 25k words this year but it's the most I've ever written from a book ever so I'm very proud of myself for accomplishing that + I finally managed to crack this story I've been trying to write since 2015, so even though the first draft is not ready yet, I have the whole structure done and that feels sooo good

My end of the year in word count for 2023 ended up as 386,000 words. And let us just say I was really happy about the end result of the progress. I managed to write (and finish) a fanfiction set in the "How to Train Your Dragon" world (which is currently being rewritten into a more cohesive and better story). I also managed to get to the third draft of my original fantasy wolf story, which was something I never knew was coming while I continued working on it. I also worked on several other stories, mostly fanfiction and a few original which are still being worked on (I am just taking a break from them). Hopefully I can get to publish my wolf story this year, and since that is my goal for this year, I might be focusing on it from now on. Not sure if it's going to be indie or traditional. I have not decided on that yet. Let us see what 2024 brings us, my fellow writer friends.

@@aliesefitch1099 well I'd say 100 Days has more than the Otherworld but it's not a lot constantly you know? Like for example, you'll have a character say a bad word maybe twice on one page but not again for another 10 pages or so, as far as I remember

It's funny that I decided I wanted to start writing in 2022... and now we're almost in 2024. Your videos have motivated me to keep going. 😊 I'm not sure about word counts, because I don't keep track. But I did finish the first draft of the book idea that started this all---which needs so much editing. I'm also part of the way through a fantasy/dystopian enemies to lovers sort of book---I need to regroup on this one too. And then, I decided that I'd try NaNoWriMo this year and tried my hand at contemporary. I love the story but NaNoWiMo exhausted me so I'm taking a writing break for a bit. Overall, very proud of what I've done, and I only hope the writing I did was actually good.

I started posting on my own KZbin channel, TikTok, and insta more and would love to continue to do that just for a year to see where it will take me :)

I haven't written much in 2023 because I am back to school since the fall of 2022. I wrote more for school than I did on my book, short stories and poems combined. There is so much to study and that is stressful. I hope the growth in job prospects resulting from having a master's degree would be worth the struggle. After the brain fry in the school, very often I am only capable of scrolling and listening to audiobooks. In 2023 I did not count the words, unlike the 4 years before. I should now start counting them again as soon as the exams are over...

Projects BIRA and CROWN have been shelved due to unresolvable quality control issues.

Greetings Abbie, and folks commenting on Abbie's videos. 😀 I'm rather new to your videos but some of what have seen in them has helped me to go in what seems to be the right direction in my current focus WIP. I'm also gathering ideas in my mind for a couple of WIPs that started with the intent of being a single short story and a bit of back story for that WIP before they both got out of hand and between them it looks like they will be a series or some sort of mix of them both in a way that starts with the one and transitions into the other. I'm also toying with something that will reach even further back into the history of those. Is it possible to write an anthology of short or even flash fiction stories in the same world? I'm holding a couple of flash fiction works that I haven't figured out how to submit, could I work up an anthology of a mixed bag of stories including some that would be grouped in one story line and some that would not be in that story line? All these things in my head and so far only a couple of flash fiction works that may or may not be garbage completed, where am I going and how do I get there? 😕
