i1 Display Studio ... any Good?

I redid the video from a couple of weeks ago to present a more in depth look, and explain my position a little more clearly based on a couple of comments. In the mean time I've also evaluated profiles made with this device and I believe they are limited and won't allow you to take full advantage of your displays color gamut. I still recommend the i1 Display Pro, I feel this product falls short.

One of the reasons D65 was used a lot in the beginning and became the defect sRGB white point is perhaps in part due to CRT monitors not being able to go much lower than 5000K without prematurely burning out the screen. LEDs also prefer higher blue values being more efficient. Before uncalibrated CRT monitors were like 9300K and TFT or better laptops running Windows 7500K or more. I agree quite ugly, yet that is what stuck. I'll have to remeasure both a Matrix and a LUT profile as I didn't realise until your video there was so much difference in gamut extents. Whenever users have problems in banding contouring or other artefacts, often a Matrix profile cured that. Matrix profiles are very efficient ( not a problem for stills images) and has very good smoothing for monitors that have non linear response. For speed, the Display Pro is my choice, and as you said choice of white points and other interface options.

Very curious to see if the differences are mitigated with displayCAL. If so, why couldn't X-rite just make the newer software compatible with the old hardware? Less reason to buy the more expensive one of course.

Lots of good information, thank you. I've been getting by with an old Pantone Huey Pro calibrator for many years and have been happy with my images and prints. I tried a Datacolor SpyderX and the results were awful. Returned the Spyder immediately. I cannot afford to spend hundreds of dollars on a calibrator. My budget at this point is even being stretched to afford a $150 calibrator. So it's either the i1Display Studio or another Spyder of some sort. Since I've been getting along fine thus far with the Huey Pro I guess the i1 Display Studio will at least not be any worse than the Huey Pro. Do you have any other recommendations? Thanks.

Not really at this point. Calibrite is now the marketing/sales arm of xRite’s line of display calibrators. the problem with the studio as mentioned in the video is the inability to dial in the white point to match the print in the viewing area. Still better than nothing as usually luminosity is the bigger problem, but it can be annoying that all your prints are slightly cooler or warmer than you expect them to be because the white point is locked in to settings the will rarely match any viewing condition. I need to work more with display Cal and see if it would be a good option with the Calibrite Color Checker Display (which is the rebranded name of the i1 Display Studio). I do know that the i1 Display now does work with my BenQ software, not sure what changed.

What is you have profiled your display and suddenly your prints are darker than they were before? Can you calibrate your printer?

Prints are darker with no changes to the file in Lightroom or Photoshop? This can happen if you use an incorrect printer profile (one built on a different paper type). It can also happen if there is a problem with the printer driver or your application of correct setup in your printing process. You definitely can profile a printer, but you don’t modify a printer profile to change output (like make prints lighter), you instead modify the file before it goes to the printer. @@cwaynefox Please do look at the SpyderX Photo Kit, it's still on offer & seems to be a good deal. Amazon USA has Datacolor SpyderX Photo Kit: Compact Tool Set for Precise Color Management. I am still learning it. Also, could you say something about the ambient light in the room the Photoshop work is being done in? SpyderX said my room was much too bight.
