You said "Queen fans are hardcore" but the irony is: these are NOT Queen fans in the stadium. Queen affirmed the gig in the last moment, so they were not on the tickets. -> No one in the stadium knew Queen would come, so no one was actually there because of Queen. ^^ Freddie just converted them... :-)

Actually, that's not completely true. The audience was not a Queen audience as there were multiple big names on the bill that day, BUT, Queen was announced as participating at Bob Geldof's initial press conference where he listed who would be performing a couple of months before the show. (Also, no one was on the tickets ... it just said Live Aid.)

This response confirmed to the band that they were still relevant and to continue recording and touring. They said in interviews that this give them the desire to get back in the studio and record more music even though they ere tired after having just finished a tour that lasted from Sept through May including South America, and were going to take some time off. They got bsck to the studio, did the Highlander sound track and made the Magic album followed by the tour in 1986

So happy to see this!! Freddie, Brian, Roger & John!!! They are the band we loved in the 70's and still my favorite band of all time!! This concert was blah until Queen hit the stage! He had a way of making you feel he was singing just to you in concert. It felt personal. Their manager made sure they were the loudest at Live Aid and it worked! They killed! Freddie 4 ever!! I miss him.

Elvis died in 1977, Freddie wrote Crazy Little Thing Called Love in 1979 as a tribute to him. The story is that he wrote it in the bath one day. Also, Hearing you talk about your cat made me smile, because Freddie was a cat person, he had quite a few and they all had their own rooms! He even wrote a song about his favourite cat, named Delilah. Edit: He may well have had HIV/AIDS at this point, but he wasn't officially diagnosed until 1987. Also, these were not exclusively Queen fans as most of the tickets had been sold before Queen were announced as part of the line up. Freddie was just that good when it came to controlling the crowds.

"I'm not gay but he's a pretty man." 😂 Well I *am* gay and can indeed confirm that he is a very pretty man. Lol. Freddie is just incredible overall. His voice, his relationship with his fans, his showmanship, his love for all his friends. Just an amazing guy. Its not just Freddie though. Queen was made up of 4 of the most talented guys in music. When they come together, they are unstoppable. They were definitely meant to all find each other. Great reaction! Would love to see you react to One Vision (Extended Version). It's a fun video. Any new Queen fan also needs to check out some Wembley stuff. I'd recommend Another One Bites the Dust and Under Pressure both live at Wembley!

I was at Live Aid and can tell you it was amazing when Queen came on as they're weren't on the tickets. If you was a Queen fan before you definitely left that day being one. The best performance EVER and the rest of the day/night was pretty flat after they had finished. I was 16 years old and ever since Live Aid have been a devoted Queen fan ever since, even now at 50. I also saw them live twice the following year, firstly at Wembley in July 1986 and then their finale to the tour at Knebworth in August 1986. There were 150,000 of us that day and Freddie & Queen flew over us in helicopters and it sounded like the earth shook as every singe one of us (150,000) were screaming. They were experiences I'll never forget and still to this very day love Freddie (and Queen of course). RIP my hero Freddie Mercury xxx PS. It's nice to hear a man (whether gay or not) admitting that Freddie was pretty, or any man in that case, good for you x

Hi Sawyer - yes I agree.Take 4 different men, each with a great talent and great instrumental skills. In addition, each has to be a main component of a band: lead vocals/piano, plus drums, plus lead guitar, plus bass guitar. In addition, their voices have to blend well in harmony. Plus each has to be able to write number one hit songs. Plus they must all live in the same city so they can come in contact with each other. Could this ever happen? Heck, yes, and Freddie named it Queen!

This concert was for Live Aid. It was to raise money for drought stricken African countries. Many different performers played that day at a dual concert in London and Philadelphia. The tickets were all sold before Queen even agreed to appear. So all those people in the crowd weren’t even necessarily Queen fans. All the different performers were allowed 20 minutes. Queen were the only ones who practiced and squeezed more than just a couple of songs in their allotted time. They stole the show! This is widely regarded as the best live performance of all time.

He was diagnosed in 1987. He had about 16 tests done. They last played live in 1986 because he did not feel well and knew something was wrong. He finally went to Brian ( guitar player) and said he couldn't tour anymore, but they did continue to record music. He wrote his last song Winter's Take and the told them to just keep writing him material. He would record 3 vocal takes over a drum beat and he did this knowing he would never hear the final cut. He passed in 1991. In 1997 they recorded No One But You and it was the last time John Deacon played (bass player). He was just too heart broken to go on without Freddie

This was a benefit concert for starvation in Ethiopia. It was put on by Bob Geldof, who also put on an earlier benefit recording of a song called "Do They Know It's Christmas," with Midge Ure. Midge was the more famous musician of the two, and his contacts were key to making these things work, but Bob had the personality of a pit bull, and you can make an argument that this stuff wouldn't have gone off without him. Another artist at the time said in an interview, "You just don't say no to Bob." Bob dragged everything together on sheer personality and stubbornness. Queen was a late addition to the program. By the time Queen was announced as attending, all the tickets had been sold already. People coming to the concert that day DID know Queen would be playing, but nobody bought a ticket because of Queen. This was set up as sort of a telethon, with shows going on here in London (about 72,000 people) and also in Philadelphia (about 90,000 people), plus they were showing other bands from around the world via satellite. This was THE biggest live broadcast around the world ever. IIRC, they had like 12 satellites to make this show work. About a year earlier, the LA Olympics in '84 had set the previous record with 2. Queen went on in the late afternoon/early evening, and up to that point the pledges had been kind of sluggish. Bob was on his way up to go yell at the BBC people (who were running the broadcast/telethon part of the show) because he thought they weren't making enough appeals, weren't emphasising the starving people who were the whole point of the show, when Queen went on. He stopped to listen and was kind of blown away. After Queen's performance, donations picked up significantly. Check out this short clip from a documentary about Live Aid, about how Queen saved the show. :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6GVl4Knl7SMi5Y The two guys in the cop uniforms at the beginning were a well-known-at-the-time comedy duo. They were basically keeping the crowd entertained while the roadies dashed around setting up for the next group. Yes, We Will Rock You is longer. :) They had a very strict 20-minute limit, though, so they only played the first verse and the guitar solo. That's also why they only played the one section of Bohemian Rhapsody. Freddie had a throat infection that day, and had been advised by a doctor not to perform. He went on anyway, of course. But seriously, as awesome as this was, this is Freddie performing SICK. O_O Freddie wasn't diagnosed until much later, but this was when AIDS was just getting recognized, so who knows? He probably was not symptomatic at this time, though, even if he had HIV. We'll never know. There was a lot of political bullshit tied to AIDS early on, though. A lot of people -- who are bigoted assholes -- saw that the first group of people to start showing signs of this new disease were gay men, and didn't care. Their attitude was, "Hey, let the pervs die off, whatever." :( It took a ridiculously long time (and some high-profile cases found in straight people who hadn't done anything "wrong" to get it, like a rich white woman who got it with a blood transfusion during surgery) to get anyone with any power to actually start paying attention and devoting some resources to figuring out how to diagnose and treat it. If you're interested, there's a movie called And The Band Played On that's really good, sort of fictionalized but based on a non-fiction book on the subject. It's not a dry documentary; it's very watchable.

OK I'm old, I saw Queen live 5 times. Live Aid, to this day it's the largest concert ever held. It was in aid to raise money for the Ethiopian Famine in the early 1980's. At the time of Live Aid I was serving in the British Royal Marine Commandos in a refugee camp in Ethiopia. We listened to it on the radio. We were surrounded be the horror of the Famine, but when Queen came on the radio those poor soles who were there even reacted in a very positive way. I remember that a lot of us Royal Marine Commandos were crying watching some of the children dancing along, I'm teary eyed just remembering. I looked around at men I had fought alongside, who were tough, hardened Royal Marine Commandos who I had fought along side in a war against Argentinian's in 82. By the end of Queen's set we were dancing with the children. It went along way to help build their trust in us. The famine is one of the two worst memories I have. I only watched it for the first time last year, my son put it on the TV. A lot of memories came back and a lot of tears.

Live Aid was a lot of bands playing to raise money for Africa famine. They played for free. Each band got 20 minutes. But Queen was so amazing the other bands were stunned. It’s considered the best performance by a rock band. 40% of the world watched either live or like me on tv. It was incredible to see Freddie play the audience like an instrument at each concert. Its obvious that you completley get them heart and soul. I've been hooked since I was 6 and at aged 10 knew every lyric of Bohemian Rapsody because it was being played on the radio so much on its 1975 release. 😅. Our Queen Elizabeth 2nd celebrated her Platinum Jubilee last month, marking 70yrs on the Throne. There was a 3 day national celebration, finishing with a huge oudoor concert in front of Buckingham Palace in London. Queen( the band)..😅 ..were the opening act with We Will Rock You and were accompanied by our Royal Marine Band. It was brilliant. Obviously no one can replace our beloved Freddie, but American singer Adam Lambert did a stirling job standing in for him..Its on youtube and definatley worth a watch for all Queen fan's. 🇺🇸 🇬🇧 💕 👑 🎶

Freddie did not get diagnosed with HIV until 1987 but they say there is a 10 yr incubation period and he died in 1991 so he most likely was infected in 85 when they did Live Aid. I'd like to see you react to A Kind of Magic. It's one of five songs they wrote for the movie Highlander. Here's the link kzbin.info/www/bejne/mWPCqYqKiN52q7c This was in 86 about a year after this concert for Live Aid.

In Freddie's private life he was very shy & soft spoken..... but he came alive on stage. This went down as one of the best live performances ever. Plus all this singing was without fear bud in. They weren't invented then. So just proves what a fabulous singer Freddie was. 6yrs after this we lost a legend that can never be replaced. I've been a Queen fan since I was 10yrs old in 1974. There was only one Freddie Mercury. Crazy little thing called love was definitely not an Elvis song. Freddie wrote it & it was released in 1979. They never did covers! The band is Freddie.....Brian May lead guitar.....John Deacon bass guitar & Roger Taylor on drums!

No one can hold a crowd in the palm of their hand the way Freddie could. Freddie wrote "Crazy Little Thing Called Love". But the style of the song may have been influenced by Elvis and Elvis's era.

Have been listening to Queen since 1974 and never get tired of them. When I am down I have my Queen Day, listening to them all day until I’m feeling better. You should check out their concerts in Rio and/or Argentina with 250 to 400 thousand people attending. Really gives you goosebumps.

Glad to see "youngsters" liking Queen today. I wore out my 8 track tapes of them back in the 70's. A time when 4 guys and a few instruments made music. Still Bad Ass.

But for a bit of piano when Freddie was on guitar, all the music played; the voices singing (other than the crowd) came from Queen..Freddie - Lead vocals, piano, guitar; Brian-several guitars, back up vocals, John- bass, seemed back up vocals on this too tho he usually doesn't sing, then Roger - those Drums and back up vocals plus "ready Freddie". Queen are spectacular musicians and entertainers.

Not only was Freddie still dealing with nodules on his vocal cords, but he was diagnosed with laryngitis the day before the concert. His doctor recommended that he cancel, but he chose to do what he loved best, perform.

Let's have it right Queen by 85' were well known around the world, but their heyday was from 77-82/83 and were considered on the slide ..until this So obviously the crowd knew who they were, but they weren't advertised so the reactions from the crowd is genuinely love for great music

I think what the difference is between today's musicians and the ones that have been around a long time is that the musicians of today don't write their own music. Maybe its just me but i can tell when they have written their own music and it comes through when they are singing.

What you are seeing here is probably the last of the greatest live performances you will ever see. Freddie and the boys put it all out and down here. Sadly, there is little to follow this (AC/DC Sars-Fest in Toronto -Downsview Air Base may compete). Epic af! Performance, pure talent and crowd control. EPIC!

This audience that was there was just a fraction of the total audience. This was broadcast world wide, on tv and on radio. There was about 60 to 80,00 in the audience there and about the same in the USA. This was also broadcast on tv all over the world. This included the whole concert of all the band's involved. They broadcast for hours. This song was written by Freddy in his bath and it was a tribute to Elvis. Elvis had been dead about 2 years when Freddy wrote this.
