@Johnny Finn Nightwish will, one day, be hailed as the reason for the success of symphonic rock. If you haven't done it yet and want to sob uncontrollably, watch the movie "Imaginaerum." After dozens of viewings, I still choke up multiple times. If I had a "Make A Wish" opportunity, it would be to hang out with Emppu for a couple of hours... he seems SO happy making others happy that he holds a special place in my set of beloved musicians... maybe even the top one. 😀

14:16 - 14:47 The Evolution of Music This has to be my favorite part of the song because it's so subtle that you might not catch it the first time around, but it's arguably the most brilliant part of the song in terms of storytelling. Within about 30 seconds, you can hear a beautiful representation of musical history. It begins with a harpsichord playing Bach's Minuet in G, followed by the voices of Chrismas Carolers singing a snippet that's reminiscent of Carol of the Bells to represent the Classical Music of the 18-1900s; it then moves to mid-20th century american Country Music with a short snippet of a banjo diddy ; the early 21st century follows afterwards with a riff from Metallica's "Enter Sandman" to represent the Golden Age of Classic Metal; it then ends with the drumkit briefly switching from acoustic to digital as it plays an EDM style beat to represent Club Music and the modern era. This is not a part of the song I see people talk about often and I think it definitely deserves more praise because it's absolutely genius.

Actually it starts before 14:16, exactly at 13:47.. it starts with tribal rythms and singings (probably they want to evoke the ancient music), then it lasts with a kind of Gregorian chants and afterwards those that you mentioned!!! In total is exactly 1 minute!

In the grand scale of things, the gist of this composition, we are nothing but that. Footnotes to future generations. Or alien civilizations finding out a monke with big brain actually managed to off themselves. No matter what, we will eventually fade out on this Earth. The big question is will we continue on as a species through raping other heavenly bodies. But "Life" as we humans consider it, WILL end billions of years before Sol revokes its contract.

spread the meme ... Oh - "meme" was a word invented by Dawkins in his classic work "The Selfish Gene" :) in 1976 If ever a "nice" song was made about somebody who is still alive, Dawkins deserves it. And the title of the song - and its premise - is about Dawkins' follow-up to his classic "The God Delusion" ... called "The Greatest Show on Earth" (which is about the real story of evolution by natural selection) I have both in hardback, and have read them cover to cover. Dawkins deserves this! I just love that he appeared on stage to finish the show. When class meets class, magic happens. Nightwish is class, Dawkins is class, it was magic. Q.E.D.

@@jazzx251 A few things: - He's spoken out in favour of eugenics (admittedly more positive eugenics, like breeding humans to be smarter or stronger, as opposed to more negative eugenics intended on breeding out certain traits or conditions, but still) - He's straight up said that it would be immoral for a person to not abort a fetus if they knew it would be born with Downs Syndrome (despite the fact that a survey found that 99% of people with Downs Syndrome are perfectly happy with their lives) - Said some things about Islam that skirt the line between legit criticism of religion, and Xenophobia. - Said some poorly worded statements that basically implied that he believed some rapes were somehow worse than others.
@raktor1996
@raktor1996 3 жыл бұрын
@@femoman Well, now that you said this all... I acutally like him better. - I suspect with eugenics he is not suggesting selective breeding but gene editing, which is an exciting technology. - As for down syndrome, those people are rarely (or not at all) self sufficient and are a burden to their families and society, even if they are happy despite all that, there is merit is suggesting that one should not bring someone into such an exsistence given the choice. - I don't know what comments of his are thought xenophobic, but in the current political climate people are often very sensitive and quickly jump the gun on calling things all sorts of phobic, while at closer examination they are really not. - Arguing between the severity of crimes is quite subjective. Though i think raping a minor can be considered a compounded offence compared to other cases of rape for example. Alas, i don't know what comments of his you refer to, so I might be proven incorrect.

"Ghost Love Score" was the love at first sight as when we heard Nightwish first time and loved them. "The Poet and The Pendulum" was the mourning for the old times of Nightwish and calling for the new dark adventures "The Greatest Show on Earth" was the great announcement of the epic era is about to come as Nightwish has finally established their best line-up! Now it is the time for "All the Works of Nature Which Adorn the World"

The opportunity that everyone is looking for has existed for years and initially consists of self-reflection and after that taking knowledge about how the mechanisms work, all of which are based on lies and deceit and therefore will never end, until everyone knows what exactly from oneself about blackest word magic, which is much more subtle than many might believe is made. 'Cause there's no more money everything is to blame is based on a color of money system and this results exclusively in the color of the law, what neither with right and law, yet to be reconciled with correct funding. Now if everyone understands that there has been nothing to pay for a very long time (HJR 192, 1933), then there are many the other way around who will hang. It hits me every time as well. To me there is so much anguish, and yet a hint of defiance in that final cry. Humankind's unified voice shouting out to the uncaring and empty vastness of the Universe that "We Existed". The loneliness of being the only known sentient species, mixed with the resolve that even if there are no other eyes and ears out there (and I dearly hope there are) to witness our existence and eventual passing; the Universe created something worthy of note. @SennaAugustus
@SennaAugustus 3 жыл бұрын
@@ari4681 Theory is not proof. Proof precedes theory. Theory is a collection of proofs (or facts) used to explain something more complex, the hows and the whys. Proofs are also small individual pieces of the puzzle. There is no one big proof of complex phenomena. Many things in science will never be proven, because of our limitations of measurements and understanding. What science does is to tell us, as far as we know, this is the best explanation, things that are tested and have found to be so far so good. But it is also a challenge to scientists to prove that what we know is wrong, so that we can improve our understanding. Things that have been "proven wrong" also are not completely dismissed, but tweaked and used with caveats and limitations. For example, Newton's laws are "wrong" when considering certain situations, but they are still very valid for normal day to day use. Einstein's theories are wrong when considering the quantum world, but perfectly fine on the macro level. And what we have is not the end, but just a step towards the next on the road to understanding.

I get emotional every time I hear the "We were here" part. This song really helps you remember how small you are compared to the universe and the things that came before and the things that will come after. It reminds us there's going to be time when humans don't exist anymore or that we'll one day be considered an ancient civilization ourselves. Beautiful! I've listened to this song so many times, I've lost count and I know I'll keep coming back to listen again!

It's not her voice alone its the way she uses it. The various low and high notes she can reach and in different styles and even different languages. Simone Simons, Sharon Den Adel and Amy lee are awesome too for example BUT with no disrespect to them...Floor is the most flexible of them all and she can perfect any style she gets into...from operatic to heavy metal to hard rock to pop to jazzy-ish to growling...she has it all and she's worked damn hard to achieve it. her pairing with Nightwish is just marvelous because it introduced a lot of people to the band and genre and all the side projects that the band members had and have. Floor Jansen and Nightwish are for us today what Freddie Mercury and Queen were back in the day. Oh and no disrespect to Tarja(which I've only this year managed to see live and she magnificent as expected) or Anette(still waiting to catch her live). I like them too and we wouldn't be here to talk about any of this if not for their contributions as well

@@vlad-ovidiuadam6489 dude, your comment is pure and condensed truth, from the first to the last word. Also note that I've been listening to metal music (not the heavy one or a more instrumental one, but mostly to power metal, gothic and symphonic metal) for over 10 years, with the first group I listened to being Evanescence (whose frontwoman is the above mentioned Amy Lee), and the first actually loved to the deep being Within Temptation (not to be said, Sharon's band), so I totally get your comparison, and I can compare them as well with my musical tastes and history. They all have a wonderful voice, however it's not the bare voice which lets you understand the power of these bands, but the way they decide to use them. Just think of Whole World is Watching from WT, of Bring Me to Life from Evanescence: they are well known songs, but they are the ones which let you appreciate the frontwomen's voice the most, since they are literally able to crack your heart.

About a year ago I "rediscovered" Nightwish after watching a random video here on YT. Haven't listened to Nightwish for like 10 years before that. I think the song was The poet and the pendulum, (didn't even know they had their third singer, after Anette) and since then I've listened/watched Nightwish songs almost daily. If that random video haven't been Nightwish, I might never have found out about Floor Jansen, for me the greatest singer there is. I might never have found my way back to Nightwish, for me the greatest band there is, and listened to songs like Poet..., Ghost love score, Storytime, Tribal...too many to write here. Thank you Nightwish, for making the best music I've ever listened to.

I feel you. I used to love Nightwish untill Annette came along. I stopped listening to Nightwish completely. Then one day I heard Floor on our national show Beste Zangers, saying she was now the voice of Nightwish. I've always been a big fan of her, loved After Forever, so I just had to check out her performances with Nightwish and damn I am SO glad I did. I absolutely LOVE Nightwish again! In my opinion they are better than they've ever been, even though I really liked them with Tarya too. Floor is just out of this world and Troy is such a great addition. So sad Jukka had to quit though, but this drummer is very good too, they are all just amazing!

Back in 2008 a co-worker introduced me to Nightwish. Wish I Had An Angel was the first song of theirs I heard (he had a copy of Once) and I immediately went out to buy it, only to find that the store I went to didn't have a copy of that, but they did have Dark Passion Play. As soon as The Poet and the Pendulum started playing, I thought, "that's not the same singer..." That song still hooked me though, the musicianship far exceeded anything I was exposed to at the time. I started looking more into the band, and found that Tarja had left. I liked Anette fine, never had a problem with her style, but as I went deeper down the rabbit hole I got more into the older songs, and I also discovered After Forever, specifically Dreamflight, and Floor's range blew me away. So when I found out she was going to be the singer for Nightwish, I was beyond excited. Seen them twice, both times with Floor, and those were two of the best shows I've ever been to. Waiting for show number 3, whenever that is...

Its nine years, since i lost my mother. I was 34 then. A woman, who gave her all, to raise a boy as a single mother. She struggled so damn hard through all her life. And then, when she finally found peace, she got cancer. I never understood, how a fighting human, who gave it all, could be punished like that. I had so many damn questions, and doubted everything and all. I was never religious, and neither was she. Ever since i was a young boy, we talked about life and death. And she had her own way, to think about things. She teached me, to belive in the universe and not to question my human being. And still - the day she died, i lost all „faith“. Just because of the fact, that she died way too young (56). And then i found this song. And i had to realise, that she lives on. In me, and in every person she met on her way. And that was the moment, i realised, that we can be eternal - if we are pure and if we care. We where here! And damn… how she was here! A wanna thank you, for this masterpiece, and for all it made me realise! Whenever i come back to this video, i shed some tears. But no sad ones. I am lucky, that this woman raised me, and gave me the capacity, to understand such a masterpiece! I love you guys! - and sorry, if i chose the wrong words. English was not my mothers language.

While she somehow miraculously recovered from her near-death state. The truth was that her life would never be the same again. It's been an extremely uphill battle since then with moments of grave despair and anguish. Nonetheless I am forever grateful to have been given the time to truly cherish and love her. All I hope for now is that her days will come to a close with as little pain as possible. Much love to you and your shared emotions. Kindest wishes, NA

@@awandererfromys1680 Thanks for this info, and yes - reasons enough to be proud of this fantastic artist! 👊😎👍 Not to forget: *Sharon den Adel* of *Within Temptation* - a voice to fall down on the knees, and a band / songs to get stoned without drugs... ...so the dutch have 2 of the best female voices of the world, and one of the best bands ever. And *this* is really *more* than reason enough, to be proud. I doff my hat! 🙏👏

I spoke to Richard Dawkins at a meeting in 2015 and I asked him about his collaboration with Nightwish. He was incredibly impressed by the band and by Tuomas' in particular. When he was invited, he expected to just do a 'voiceover' but was in the studio with the band, so could see how they work. He was very much looking forward to the Wembley show, although I think he was a bit nervous!

Yes, he said in an interview-esque thing that he was quite frightened of Wembley, that having been the largest crowd of people he had ever addressed in person.

I honestly cry like a child every time I hear this song. So many things happen at the same time, it is a tremendous masterpiece. I see life itself pass before my eyes with this music! Whether I feel excited about something in my life. The greatness, the majesty of this work makes me amplify that positive emotion. If, on the other hand, I feel bad: it reminds me that we are so small, that we are just a single grain of sand, this automatically reminds me that despite how insignificant we may believe we are, we were here, our effort is worth it. I am a computer scientist and I dedicate myself to technology, we live in an incredible time of advances with artificial intelligence and so on. Parts of the song also make me see how far we have come in technology and how rudimentary we were before, but with that advancement also comes great responsibility. The references to "giant mushroom-shaped clouds" connect with films like Oppenheimer or Chernobyl. It's just that this masterpiece makes me connect the dots with other art forms. When they mention the last light of the library I think of the great writers like Tolkien, CS Lewis and many others and I can taste their talent, feel so grateful for it. I feel overwhelmed by all this and that's why I get so excited. Seeing so many faces there and that we were here, I appreciate each person's life, from my parents and my parents' parents, my entire family tree. Even the people in the audience in this video clip, thinking that every life is worth something, imagining every life unfolding. When those people return to their homes, to their countries, each one has their own story, their own drama. The craziest thing is that I am a Christian and I have been a Nightwish fan for many years, I myself was previously agnostic. But even far from seeing it as something contrary or incompatible, it seems that I see the creative hand of God in it and I can see Genesis itself in this music and the development of history. In short, this musical work encompasses so many things and it is possible to see it from so many angles, that with each listen it is a new discovery, connecting new points with my own life experience, with other forms of art that I consume. I can only feel immense GRATITUDE because all that, all those incredible advances, led to the emergence of this very masterpiece in Tuomas's brilliant mind at some point in his life. Tuomas himself and his companions are the last light of the library, he himself gave birth to poetry, he had a dream that he had to understand. They themselves were here and their songs will be remembered and perhaps millennia later, forgotten. But there is a brutal and shocking beauty in all of it. I'm sure more people feel this way.
