'This reform has nothing to do with the judiciary, by my view this is regime reform'

Dorit Beinisch was a prodigy of Aharon Barak, the judge that initiated the judicial coup in the 90s. She was a very activist judge & many of her controversial rulings were based on subjective reasoning. As she said, since Israel doesn't have a formal Constitution, she thinks it's up to the judges to make one. The judicial selection process is rigged in favor of the Ashkenazi elites. The judges have a veto over who's selected & there's only one mizrahi judge even though they are 1/2 the population, partly because of racism & because they are more conservative. They carefully choose their replacements by age, so that the court can easily replace them when they retire. If Beinisch is unhappy about the changes, that means they are needed.

No need for a 15-judge court in tiny Israel. I agree that the cabinet and Supreme Court should represent the diversity of the Israeli population, or at least the parties in power.

This Supreme Court including previous Supreme Court Justices are nearly entirely left-wing Ashkenazi Jews who do not represent the vast majority of the state of Israel. Just like with the office of the Prime Minister which has always been in the hands of an Ashkenazi with no ties to or connection to the Mizrahi Community which makes up the majority of the population in Israel that is not democracy it is not representative of the majority

She said "Democracy is not the majority rule."... that is *exactly* what democracy is.

I sort of get what she is saying. There are many forms of democracies. You can have a majority democracy or consensus democracy

Democracy ought to be rule by the majority with regard for the minority, it's well being and safety. As Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara said “the bills being advanced these days are based on the convention that majority rule is the fundamental principle of democracy. Majority rule is indeed a necessary condition for democracy to exist, but it is not a sufficient condition. “Separation of powers, safeguarding the rights of the individual and preventing the exercise of arbitrary power against minorities are fundamental values. Without them, there will be no full democracy,”

@A Random Language Nerd That is absolutely false. Full democracy can be two wolves and a sheep voting on what is for dinner. You are describing natural rights and separation of powers, not democracy. These ought to be enshrined in a Constitution, but Israel does not have one.

@A Random Language Nerd one thing Israel must accept and process is the fundamental conflict between having a "Jewish State" and a "full democracy ". In a full democracy, Arabs can simply have more babies than Jews and eventually vote Israel into an Arab state. What Israel must be, is a fundamental lly Jewish State with elements of democracy.
