Brings back some good memories, working with email in a terminal. Inspired by your recent videos I today installed Arch on my Lenovo X230t using btrsfs on a Luks encrypted disk, so much fun and works really well, thanks for the inspiration.

Ermanno, thank you very much for your tutorials! You helped me a lot in configuring i3wm and I did almost everything as I wish. I have polybar and enjoy it, also I installed and configured i3 gaps. It's simple and beautiful! Now I have a problem with neomutt. I tried to set up it to my gmail account, but everytime neomutt shows: "Login failed". I tried to find solution and configs, but it doesn't work... Aslo, I have a question: can I use neomutt for two accounts: gmail and proton?
@eflinux
@eflinux 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, as for gmail you probably require a little different settings. Try here: medium.com/@itsjefftong/mutt-gmail-59447a4bffef - As for the second question, I doubt it. Protonmail doesn't support any other connection type than the Bridge.

@@eflinux Thank you! I tried to apply these settings, input my email, password and - "Login failed", "Unable to open mailbox imaps://imap.gmail.com:993/INBOX". I tried different options, with/out quotes - nothing changed.
@eflinux

You probably need to remove INBOX from that line, as that goes into the "set folder = +INBOX" option.

Hey Ermanno! First of thanks for your great videos. You made me shift from a long time Fedora user to an Arch based DWM user. I would like to try Neomutt but it seems the link to the configuration file links to an older website of yours which is giving me a 404. Would it be possible to share it again? Thank you!

I was spending two days to find out why i am having SASL authentication error or handshake error (but mostly SASL) if i am trying to send email...This issue does affect gmail and hotmail also. port 587 was giving SASL error and port 465 was giving other errors. Finally i have found, that i need to source TWICE the password.gpg. Once for imap and once for smtp. It does not matter that the two passwords are same... Also it does matter where to insert them in muttrc file... Why in neomutt does need source separatelly in two .gpg files imap password.gpg and smtp password.gpg only in gmail and hotmail? Yahoo has not got this problem. Sourcing one file containing two lines for imap and smtp just works fine. But only for yahoo. If i put it in two separate lines but in one file i will get SASL error trying to send email... I am lazy to post this issue on github so writing here, hope will help people who are struggling with the same or similar issue. No need to waist two days from your life. :)

@@eflinux I think Alpine mail client have more potential than mutt/neomutt & also you don't have to write whole configuration file by yourself like mutt/neomutt. There is also no proper Alpine mail tutorial out there.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

@eflinux

Hi there! On that timestamp I see "sudo chown", and that is because I need to change ownership of the file. Maybe you meant somewhere else in the video?

I understand what you mean. Normally I'd copy a config file from /etc to the home directory and that works only with sudo, so I just do it by habit..., plus this way people can see how they can change ownership of a file. But thanks for pointing this out, I'll pay more attention to it the next time :)

One of these days I might just pry loose from Gmail. If so I might just install Neomutt. :) Off topic, I rarely config ArcoLinux i3 on bare metal now after all the time I spent on it, however the other day I replaced Grub with rEFInd. Have you used it? It might be worth a quick video.
@eflinux
@eflinux 4 жыл бұрын
I did use rEFInd and did a video about it, but to be honest I like GRUB for its versatility and runs practically always and in any situation.

@@eflinux Ah. I haven't gone back over all your videos other than a few quick scans. Didn't notice. I hardly ever reboot so it's rather low priority. The reason was the Welcome to Grub that popped up annoyingly, but I didn't have an interest in seeing if I could suppress it, and I was curious about rEFInd, so that was that. :)

The settings are not that different (but I can't paste them in here). You can look for Mutt Gmail on Google and you'll see already a couple of examples. The important thing is to remember to create an app password if you have 2-factor authentication enabled.
