I have the same exact set up, and I actually delidded my CPU and use the EK direct die specified waterblock to shave off about 13 to 15°C. I’m really excited to see what kind of benchmarks I’ll be able to reach as well. By the way, congratulations on you being one of the first people making it happen here on KZbin!

I had this question but found it in the video. The buffer size is set to 128. 8.9ms roundtrip latency. I wonder how it handles it with a lower buffer size. How low can it go without choking?

Wow! Even with my 5 year old X299 Hackintosh with my 6900XT GPU, I"m still getting 114296 OpenCL and 203137 Metal Score. I'm super impressed that it's right up there with the BEST Mac Pros!

Just FYI: your UADx plugins are "DISABLED" meaning they aren't processing any code. So you are still only using the piano and limiter.

please run a logic test with audio files playing on the tracks to saturate the disk io . and double up till lags . thanks great setup . tip , please use separate audio files so duplicate a metronome click , and individualise before hand. record the output and compare recording to time line sync click when no load, see zoom compare gitter . where can i dl your efi . 👍

I have an Apollo twin Thunderbolt 1 device. Would the Thunderbolt 3 to 1 adapter work with this Thunderbolt 4 on the motherboard ? Read many posts that pc motherboards only Thunderbolt 3 devices are supported with z790

Hello, i have a question. I completed the EFI that almost fully support my PC 14900K Z790 Rog Maximus Hero. The Only one problem is that the Thunderbolt did not native support hotplug. I need to plugin before turn on the machine. If fi plug after the OS load, system not found out My Thunderbolt device. Any idea to fix it? Thanks

Yesterday I built my system 14900k, Asus Proart z790, 64Gb DDR5 6600mhz and my old gpu Rx580 (Im researching for a good deal of 6900xt). My GB and Cinebench scores are a little higher and it is because MacPro 7.1 uses all the cores! Imacpro1.1 uses only the performance cores. Just a mention if you want to try it out. Great build gz!

This looks nonsense to me. I'm no expert but watched many similar videos and have my own setup. Why use UADs, these have there own processing power. You are not stressing the system in an everyday normal use way. You should be running a real project with around 40 to 50 tracks of VSTs like Omnisphere, kontact, serum, all the usual stuff that we all use. Stick 30 audio tracks on, make sure you actually have data in the tracks with a minimum of 4 notes playing simultaneously on each track. Stick a couple of compressors, reverb, de Esser, delay etc and run that. Then start duplicating. And for the audio tracks don't duplicate as it just runs the same audio file again. You need to make them unique.

the music production test isn't proper to see how powerful the device is. i'd recommend another follow up video where each instrument track has 5-10 plugins and create up to 1000 tracks. in your video you're utilizing the UAD plugins that rely on the interface for power and not the computer so you were really only loading the limiter and the piano. realistically engineers would probably have up to hundreds of tracks with lots of plugins etc going on. would love to see the set up running mac to get proper data.

@@Phones360 you talk about upgradability but fail to mention that this particular i9 is on a dead platform z790, it won’t work in z890 or an lga1851 motherboard. It won’t support thunderbolt 5 and also won’t support 4 direct to cpu pcie5 lanes for nvme storage. Instead, nvme pcie5 bandwidth must be shared with the GPU. The apple iGPU is much faster than the Intel iGPU. Apple has been upgrading its iGPU ever since Apple silicon debuted, but the Intel iGPU in the 14900k is the same iGPU that debuted in alder lake. The key point for me though is that the m3 max consumes far less power than raptor lake refresh for similar levels of performance. It is embarrassing that a laptop chip of 30-35W is keeping up with raptor lake refresh which officially consumes 253W in its PL2, but by default in most performance z790 motherboards, will consume 280W or more. Of course there are cons to apple’s system, lack of upgradable storage and ram. And the cost that Apple charges for additional storage and ram is ridiculous. Also, no native windows on arm support. Also, no AAA gaming yet on Macintosh. But from a pure technological point of view, the difference in performance per watt is so stark. I hope arrow lake addresses this issue. Because arm is coming. More efficient AMD chips are coming. Risc-v is coming to the data center. Can intel keep up?

Its not. Ex kept in Geekbench single core Geekbench does not see multithreading in multi core you need cinebench for real multithreaded scores.

i9-14900K is not optimized for macos. You should use Windows 11 for this CPU if you want all it's power.
