That cabrio might be a steal. Cool little car. You can swap a bigger vw engine into that car and make it stick shift while you’re at it. Iffff you’re into that kind of work. I’m sure you can source a 2.8, 3.2,3.6 vw/Audi at any of those yards lol

I had a Golf convertible like the one in the video. Mine was the base model in black with the manual transmission, also an 02 and with the same engine. When I said base model, I mean bare minimum. No power top, no AC, no cruise control, crank windows, only power locks but without a fob, no heated seats. Since it was the german variant, it said "Golf" and "2.0" on the back. I also had the airbag light where the ABS light is (32:05). Never knew it was offered in the US. Amazed to see that the front fenders aren't rusted through. It's a very common problem. Fun fact: The 2.0 was the most powerful engine you could order for the Cabrio. Yes, it is an interference motor. Sorry for the random mind barf, I couldn't help myself.

I remember my Grand AM.. but mine was a 1995, and had a DOHC 2.4.. Called it a Quad 4.. Pain in the butt to work on.. But for 150 HP back in early 2000's with a manual transmission.. and didn't weight much neither..

The Grand Am SE and the Cabrio GLX were awesome finds! That VW is almost eerily clean as those didn’t hold up well over time even with low miles so it must’ve been garaged. Hopefully you win one or both they’d be cool to see back on the road.

@@dernz3428 I just bought it a few months back. Really lucked out.just needs maintenance and a top, found a sweet deal on a nice Robbin’s canvas top. Getting a timing belt since no service history for it. And shocks/struts, next week. AC still cold, too.

I love that Forte, it's basically the same thing as my mom's 2016 Elantra. I'd drive it, especially since that one is a loaded up EX with heated and cooled seats. The Cabrio is ineresting, too. Thanks for the video, Randy.

I love those old Cabrios, although I prefer the Mk3 Cabrio myself. I own a Mk3 and absolutely adore them!! Hopefully one day they'll have a Mk3 Golf for you in stock to review! Would love to see you do a rebuild om a 2006-2012 Mitsubishi eclipse gt convertible. I had an 08 gt convertible ( originally had 5,000 back when I first got it in 2010). Got a steal of a deal at 8700 ( before taxes and plates ) off a lady who got it in a divorce settlement from her husband ( it was the car that was used to cheat on her with ). She got it and sold it out of spite cause he really wanted to keep that car. Fast-forward to 2021 and I put close to 340k miles on it ( 3.8 V6). Just normal maintenance ( not even a check engine light at all ( never had to charge ac either ). Very well made vehicle! I got into a wreck with it and if it wasn't for the wreck, I would have continued to drive it today. If you do find one and don't want to do a rebuild, maybe if you come across one, put it in one of your copart videos ( love those videos btw). Like to come and watch them after I'm off work.

2.0 VWs are hard to kill, Unless the belt hasn't been done as mentioned.... Autos are fine of that era too, no problems. Most folk like the updated body of that particular car, that was the last year of that design, but it was made since '95? Should make $4-5k to the right buyer, pretty low mileage, and nothing really breaks on those. Been driving one for 4 years now.

I don’t think we have “junk” titles here in New Jersey, but it sounds like you can’t register it where you are. Too bad because it seems pretty nice for a flood car, if it’s $800 and you can learn through your research how to get it registered and salable. I don’t think you want to get into the “parts car” business. I’d love to have one without the title problems. I like the VW convertible but they don’t seem to be worth much and you have that declared damage underneath. I do look forward to seeing you and I really appreciate the new content each day. So the grand am...yes you don't see them anymore which is why I literally just picked up one myself...a 2003 SE1 3.4v6...36k ORIGINAL MILES it was from Ohio ORIGINALLY...2 owners before me 1st owner had it until Oct 2021 at 32k 2nd owner Dec of 22 at 36k I got it Feb 28th 23 with 37k its clean as a whistle inside out underneath I have an appointment at carvana to see if they'll give me more then what I paid then I might sell to get me back into a 3rd gen camaro

The Acura TSX is the 4-door version of the RSX. BTW, I love the Grand Am and the Cavalier. A friend of mine owned a late 90s Grand Am GT just like that one, white with black trim, his had a sunroof and there was no cooler car that I have ever driven than that. Also, I used to own a J-body sibling of the Cavalier, a 2005 Sunfire with a 5-speed manual- I cannot adequately express how difficult it was to find one with a 5-speed manual when I was looking. The J-cars are fun. Another old GM to keep an eye open for, a Grand Prix GXP. I have always been a sucker for those Volkswagen Cabrios, too.

I find it amusing how many people don't know how powerful, reliable, and fun to drive old school MK1 VW's are. That motor was in production many years and are proven. My 85 GTI had over 300,000 miles when I sold her. Dang it, should have kept it.

My dad had a grand am JUST like that one in 2009/ 2010. It was an electric blue. It was a decent little car, it had an issue with the car alarm system causing it go off at random sometimes. We never knew what was wrong with it, we learned just to leave it unlocked and the alarm wouldn’t arm.

That Cadillac might have been a base car going by it's condition and mileage. I had a 1998 Ford Falcon in army green. It was 4 years old when I was driving it and it didn't have a straight panel on it and only 43k miles on it.

Those Kia/Hyundai GDIs are notorious for engine failures I thought. You can have your engine replaced upon failure but only if you can provide thorough documentation on your oil changes otherwise you’re on your own.

Those cassettes are likely trash; when they are kept in a hot, humid, or cold environment for a long period of time (hot or cold car with windows up for instance) the film strip warps and/or becomes brittle. This will definitely affect the sound or efficiency of the audio.

buy the golf, it has a replacement hood on it and bet it works based on everything else working. to open it just key in ignition do not turn it and un latch the roof clips. the sound with the doors open is just a relay they can be changed. great cars had several.
