Thanks, yes, I noticed it straight after I posted the video. It's annoying - the mouth says one thing, and the fingers write something else. I should have added a comment about it in the description under the video. I've done that now. Thanks again.

I'm so glad to hear that. It's always been my aim that these videos are a resource that someone might watch a number of times, to really get to the bottom of things. I aim to explain things in a way that makes sense at a high level, but also provides the details for someone who's a bit more advanced and wants to understand all the subtleties.

Thanks a lot! I was trying to brute force my way out of the integral by only inequalities and calc, without actually seeing/plotting anything. But it turns out plotting and shifting h(t) is really simple and helpful, as shown by you. Once again thanks a lot!

Glad you found it helpful. I always try to plot, or at least visualise, any equation I'm dealing with. It really helps - especially for practical engineering applications. But not just that - the best theoretical mathematicians think spatially too.

Thank you so much, Iain! You’re making clear convolutions to me. What would be the procedure to resolve this with the convolution theorem? I mean, I tried it but would we be able to obtain one result to different intervals of t? I'm very confused about it. Thank you.

This is so well explained! can you do one of convolution with a fixed signal made by e(t) and e(2-t) with a moving signal of e(-t)?, i just cant figure out how to do it
@iain_explains4 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you found the video helpful. Yes, I can make more on this topic, but I need you to be a bit more explicit. Which actual functions do you want to convolve?
@luisafernandamartinezmench8234 жыл бұрын
t@@iain_explains ok ill try to explain as good as i can because i cant figure out how to send you the picture, x(t)is the fixed function and its exp(t) from 0 to 1 and exp(2-t) from 1 to 2 and 0 otherwise v(t) is the moving function and it is exp(-t) from 0 to 4 and 0 othwerwise i hope i explained myself!

OK, that example is a little too long for a video, but I've just uploaded a simplified example along the same lines, which should help you. It's the convolution of two exponentials: kzbin.info/www/bejne/apCvc2asiayLd9U

The pronunciation of "tau" is like the pronunciation of "tow" in the word "towel". No, this won't help you much further with convolution :-) But I always say, a good example is better than a thousand words!

hi but may i ask why is u(t-T) = 1?
@iain_explains11 ай бұрын
u(.) is the common notation for the step function (ie. u(t) equals 0 for t=0 ). Therefore u(t-T) equals 1 for t>=T .
@adeddy81382 жыл бұрын
7:22 it should be e^9

@@iain_explains yeah now I noticed I should have checked the comments before warning you😅 btw can you post videos on how integration and differentiation formulas are derived if I am not wrong they are derived from limits. Do we really need a piece-wise definition for the convoluted output y(t)? Like, if we take the general definition for convolution formula (from -infty to t), and did a mathematical calculation, I got the one defined for t>5. But when I tried putting in t=4, it didn't match with the one defined for 3
