2019 - First time to Italy. It was only in the countryside outside Modena driving a Ferrari GT4CLusso. But had Matt Monro cued up on my iPhone to play in background. The smile will NEVER be removed from my face. Thankfully no tunnels. Wife still doesn't understand.

When I was 15 I purchased my first Road & Track magazine with the Lamborghini Miura road test. The car bug bit me. Since then I have been a car enthusiast and consider the Miura to be the most beautiful car EVER made. At the time I was also in love with Ursula Andress and Raquel Welch. In my opinion, these three icons of beauty remain unchallenged. I watched your video five times. Just wonderful, delightful, youthful, and pleasant! Thank you. I can remember as a small boy watching the opening sequence to the 'Italian job', and even then being totally captivated by the Muira. It remains for me at least, the most beautiful and iconic classic supercar of all time. The sound track of that V12 is like a symphony, I could even live with the slightly agricultural gear shift and steering.

@@iain_tyrrell Hi Iain, I have some sad news for you - you will be compelled in your seeking of perfection to remake this lovely clip. 1. Fag to hang from lip a la Rossano, 2. A set of Renauld Mustang Speculators for sunglasses, 3. Different camera location so the rearview mirror doesnt block the exquisite backdrop view [even if the present one does display your fine mug]. No need to put your excellent Matt Monro cover as soundtrack, the Miura's exhaust musica e bellissima. PS in the original film, the Miura's colour seems to be Pomodoro Rosso - is that just the film stock that was used then? The Ferretti car does look to be Arancia Miura. After reading your Octane article re this, I always notice that dashboard leather stitching - identico! Grazie tante. Keep up the great work. Always a pleasure to absorb your wisdom.

Summer '93, 2 lads, manual 1.6 VW Scirocco driven from Birmingham to Venice thru France & back via Switzerland & Germany. Best part? Afternoon, evening & thru the night over the French Alps to Nice. Taking turns at the wheel, it was full on Italian Job meets Dastardly & Muttley. Unforgettable.

The opening segment of “The Italian Job” is one of the greatest ever. The Matt Monro song might be iconic, but I always felt that a song was unnecessary, the sound of the Miura was all the music that was needed. The way that original Lamborghini 12 cylinder could sound beautiful and brutal at the same time has never been improved upon.
