Wow.. an engine bay where you can actually see the engine!.. very rare these days. 😄

I learned to drive in a CX20, and later had a CX24 Pallas. Both with the old cylindrical gauges. Most comfy and versatile cars I've ever driven. But it was HARD driving "normal" cars afterwards, especially having gotten used to the CX brake pedal!

In my Mini racing days Vizard's book (borrowed from a mate because I was too skint to buy it) and another more modest effort from another oily handed tuner and racer (Clive Trickey) served as our workshop manuals for many basic tasks from taking off the head to building a whole engine. Astonishing cars with no equals. The behaviour difference between a standard road car and a full race machine is a matter of pace rather than style.

Fascinating. And as we know it's a hand made car, keep the brush strokes and gaffer tape as that's what makes this thing wierd and desirable. I like my cars and motorbikes with a patina/road scabs! Garage queens tell the world you don't drive it. Those people should collect paintings instead.

Great video but wow, it's ugly. I had quite a few whisper-quiet rides in Shadows, the stunning Corniche and the Spirit back in the 70's/80's. I never understood the total shocker of a design; kind of makes sense though now you've explained the inspiration. Take off the chrome spectacles, scoop the bonnet down, put some spacers on the wheels and I'd still want to drive it straight into a swimming pool.

I am surprised how much attention is given to cars like the Bentley and Rolls-Royce. These cars are indulgent products for a niche market. In terms of automotive design they lead nowhere. If you are interested in automotive styling and engineering then looking at such cars as the 2002-2006 Toyoto Camry (particularly the v6 models) and others from Honda and Subaru from the same period is much more productive. These latter cars are excellent examples of innovative automotive engineering for the mass market. They are conceptually as far away from these lumbering Bentley and Rolls behemoths as one could imagine.

Pantera = "Large leopard" in Italian. You certainly had it going as eagerly as any Cavallini Rampanti , Iain! It's a butch beast!

Knew someone in Buffalo who had an early 1972 from the L-M dealership in Whomever allowed BRG to be allowed as a paint option should’ve lost their job IMHO. Anyway, Constant overheating issues and transaxle problem in that early iteration.

Love your videos. In the United States these were originally sold by Lincoln Mercury dealers. Just a minor correction, the 351 Windsor was manufactured in the Ford Windsor Ontario plant in Canada across the river from Detroit. I don't want to upset any Canadians as I might need to move there soon!

When I was a child, living in South of Brussels, the only Brussels De Tomaso dealer was close to our house. It delivered the key for the brand's mixed succes : a modest garage between groceries and butcher's shops, hold by former pilot Claude Dubois. People had to buy expensive Panteras, Deauville or Longchamps in odours of burnt oil, there was no real showroom, and that was quite different with Ferrari, Lamborghini or Maserati (Nevertheless our neighbour had a glamorous tobacco brown Deauville, which I loved much). I believe also that the following series, with their huge spoilers and tyres, made nothing to attract amateurs of classy GT's. And, finally, the race results of the Panteras, regularily participating to Francorchamps 24hs, were generally no match to the promises. Of course the oil-crisis did not help, either. Nevertheless, the Ford engine and its burble strongly reminded Jacky Ickx's Ford GT40 and its unforgettable 69' Le Mans success, so we were always so happy to be overtaken by a Pantera on the Belgian highways.

All the flamboyance and flair of an Italian supercar, with reliable straight forward American V8 iron- what's not to like? Full blooded supercar- marvellous piece of kit. Matchbox made a white Pantera in the 70's- it was my favourite car in their range.

For some obscure reason I simply don't get the Ferrari/ Lamborghini thing. Why, I don't know, they are great cars but I don't understand the hype about them, maybe because I've nevered owned one. I love my Bentley and would love something like an Iso Griffo, Bizzarini, Gordon Keeble or similar, but Ferraris and Lamborghinis dont float my boat. However, watching this video I'm starting to warm to this Daytona. The side profile is superb. Hope I haven't offended the Ferrari and Lamborghini aficionados.

Appreciate the insight on the chassis design. The Cleveland didn’t replace the Windsor 351. The SBF 302/351W would go on nearly 30 years after. The question is why both? With better breathing heads, smaller less friction main journals, the Cleveland is the motor Ford intended for competition and high performance. Ending in 1974 with EPA neutering the need for high compression aggressive engines. It would go on in OZ until the early 80s and the best performance aftermarket parts are derived mainly from Aussies.

Awesome i don't believe you have shown such surprise and delight whilst out on a test drive! You looked like a little boy in his first fast car ride! Good for you. Lovely to see a De Tomaso Pantera on the channel. A highly underrated car, undoubtedly because of the snobbery associated with its 'Blue Collar' Ford power unit, I think there are a new generation of car enthusiasts who can look beyond that an appreciate it for what is.

Finally one I could afford. I owned two. Handled well. Very reliable. USA 2.8L V6 was ok... then. Underpowered now. Nice 70s used car. Followed by an unmaintained '$300 '64 Dart beater with 110kmi on Slant 6 and torqueflight. Engine was sludge. Ran like a charm. Even saw 100 mph for a blink. Sold for $300.

It was a clever injection system, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't replace it with an a modern aftermarket EFI system and fuel pump if I was going to do any tuning on it. that said, I never had any trouble with the injection system itself, it was that damn Lucas fuel pump that was the problem. and I was always tempted to repaint my red TR6 in that gorgeous Magenta of the later models!

Had mine for 25 years sold it a couple of years ago to the right person. I know he takes care of it. Did a ground up restoration mostly myself back in the times when youtube and digital media didn't exist. Tricky to find parts. This was the time when you had to stroll around in junkyards and look into any old fiat you could find and see if any parts where identical. As it were, air condition condenser fans was FIAT 127 heater fan, interior roof fabric was some alfa etc etc... fun times.....
