I was always annoyed that Phobos/Huitzel and Pyron never made any MVC appearances. My 3 mains in Vampire Hunter were Hsien Ko, Donovan and Pyron.

Donovan could have himand the sword fighting you as if you were fighting 2 opponents.... Huitzul was super OP with his floating attacks... Found out later Demitri could throw a slow fb then demon fall and telephone behind you with speedy precision...

100+ win streaks in both kof 97 and 98 while on vacation in an arcade. There were literally at least 5 to 10 people constantly lined up. After beating pretty much the entire arcade, I even managed to 1cc both games, which the arcade operator put on level 8. The funny thing is I even beat the owner of the arcade a couple of times as he cut in line in 98 to face me. He gave up after 2 or 3 tries 😂

Just a quick note, this game is not Vampire Hunter 2, which confusingly is a variant of Vampire Saviour, this is just 'Vampire Hunter' which is Darkstalkers (Vampire in Japan) 2, the true second game in the series and the one played here. Personally, I've always preferred Vampire Hunter over Vampire Savour because it retains allot of zoning and distance game, as opposed to Savious which is almost relentless rushdown. But there is no need to argue because they are different games offering different experiences. I think of it as the Hyper Fighting to Saviour's ST. So amazing to follow this scene in Japan on the Big-One channel 25 years after only getting to play with friends on my Sega Saturn!

Vampire is my jam! I fell in love with it through DS3 in the late '90s. I managed to track down Vampire Hunter and Savior for the Saturn and then got the Vampire Chronicles compilation for Dreamcast. As far as I know, Chronicles is considered the inferior port of Vampire Savior, and the Vampire Collection for PS2 is what is used for competition if you don't have a cabinet. In Hunter, Phobos and Pyron are near the top if not the top. Bishamon and Lord Raptor are top tier in some versions, too. I main tend to Donovan, Morrigan and Hsein Ko.

I am personally more into VH over VS tho I like both, and coincidentally Pyron is one of my favorites to use. One of his win quotes in the US version is a favorite of mine; "I have crushed stars! What chance have you against me?" That quote along with his super buff picture on the screen is extra intimidating lmao.

@@ShinUltima That has more to do with the game than the character, XCOTA is rather hard to control and makes for the difficulty in fighting Magnus. Pyron... it's simple really, lots of damage, big lingering hitboxs, extremely friendly famedata. OH and that super, that super is not fun.

@@DuvJones I mean, XCOTA Mags unblockable attacks, super fast air projectiles and full invincibility for a period of time are not nothing. He's much more "SNK boss" than Pyron, who is closer to CE Bison in design.

@@ShinUltima No, he's not. If there's two things that make pyron stand-out... one, he has a constellation super whos explosion placement is completely random, very active, and short on recovery. The other thing is well everything else I just listed, which gives you a character that is fast, has a multitude of mixups, and did you see the damage? If a player decides they just want to go for reset, you effectively make darkstalkers a 2-3 touch game and the CPU AI knows this. Magnus is hard, he's not this... his unblockables tend to be relatively slow, has really good Mix-Ups but the damage could use a bit of boost, Magnetic Tempest is glitch to the point of kind of not working.... you almost have nothing to fear from Magnus so long you can deal with the fact that the game is kind of slow, and a little finicky on inputs. Even his passive is not that worrying, most players fear Sentinel more than him.

DS was likely the fg that introduced larger meter stocks in the genre (the common max number was 3). And just keep in mind the very idea of meter stocks was new in the mid 90s. Capcom invented meters even though SNK invented supers... and SNK fgs were all late to have stocks, and not for all of them too. Now by the late 90s Capcom standardized meter stocks in their fgs, and was going further literally with that idea of much larger meter stocks.

DS started first and was the actual innovator but Marvel came out in the same year, and in the few next sequels it quickly caught much more attention than DS, especially with the revolution of XVSF. It actually became a real issue for DS not manage to stand out since DS2. To me the devs needed to separate DS's gameplay from Marvel even further since the time of DS2.

Darkstalkers is a cartoony game. That cartoony side is well displayed also in some "getting hit" animations and modifiers like being burned, shocked, transformed, etc. It could even be said DS made a minor revolution in the fg industry for pushing that art style and animation style back in 1994, as there was no other fg like it. Also DS was fundamental to introduce a specific "Capcom humor style" in their fgs, that was much more expanded since the mid 90s. Again if we look other fgs at the time, that approach of humor display pretty much didn't exist.

Japanese Sega Saturn version was the only version I used to have it unfortunately sold it I still have the Box for it which came with the 4MB ram cart And ironically Felicia was my main character because she played like Wolverine /pyslocke Also why hasn't the red beret Akuma looking character in the beginning of the demo screen not become an alternate costume for him I think people were more distracted by Felicia's appearance which is why I won a lot of The Times and my local arcade at the mall

Huitzil doesn't look too much to Robo, and besides Darkstalkers is few years earlier than Chrono Trigger. Also it came before Marvel/X-Men COTA. DS came out months earlier in the same year of 94.

Capcom is not capable of doing the graphics justice. Darkstalkers IS an anime fg visually, it's arguably the originator of all of them. Capcom needed to outsource the game to Arc Systems or another company able to do good anime graphics.

@@carlosaugusto9821 There's no need for Capcom to outsource Darkstalkers to ArcSys when they can do it themself. I mean, look at *Ghost n' Ghoblins Ressurection* . It was done by a small team in Capcom using RE Engine and the cartoony-cell shading graphics looks beautiful. I'm sure Capcom are capable to do new Darktalkers with beautiful anime graphic, probably it will looks better than what ArcSys does with GG Xrd/Strive/DBFZ/GranBlue. The only problem is Capcom didn't see Darkstalkers as a franchise worth to invest their money anymore...

You're probably right about the Blitzcrank/Phobos theory. Capcom is one of if not the biggest video game companies. The biggest when it comes to fighting games for sure. Riot Games has Project L in the works. They have to be taking inspiration from different fighting games for that. I'm sure Capcoms influence is far and wide in the gaming industry in general. Vampire Hunter > Vampire Saviour While Pyron is hella busted (and Bishamon isn't far behind, last I checked), the overall game is much more interesting and varied than the endless rushdown into chain combo spam of VS. The characters in VH have more depth than their VS counterparts, and I personally dislike the VS round system. I love Jedah and Bulleta though, so no hate on VS. But I definitely prefer VH (though admittedly I'm a lot more familiar with VS). Speaking of VS, it's a shame Capcom was never able to release their true vision for VS in the arcade due to VS maxing out the CPSII board. I'm pretty sure the only true version of VS that Capcom planned is the Saturn version of VS. Even arcade VH2 and VS2 are just flavours of VS, and neither could handle the full vision of what Capcom wanted.
