I can't help but wonder what the backup musicians and singers feel about their contribution to the Ian Tongi sensation. For other Idol singers, it's a professional gig for the supporting cast. They do their job professionally and they do it very well, indeed. But for Iam, they can't help but be transported to another level. Not louder or stronger, but supremely sublime. Perfection casts a long shadow.

I like Adam Lambert and his talent and performance style for what he does, but Iam Tongi is and never will be a performer like Adam Lambert or Freddie Mercury or Elton John, or even Sam Cook, and I'm glad he's gaining confidence but remaining true to himself and his genuine style of performing music he loves and wants to share with the world. It was also interesting to see the differences in personality and values -- Iam is finding it hard to say goodbye to friends he made on American Idol over the last several months as they are gradually eliminated, while Adam admits he had his "eyes on the prize" and was not in the competition to make friends. This is a very big difference in attitude and behavior and why many of us from Polynesian or island backgrounds prefer Iam's sincerely humble, laid-back, and friendly personality and style which is reflected in his music and on-stage presence. As the judges say, you can't help but love him!

Iam is such a caring person and gets along with other contestants he considers his forever friends. He’s having a hard time saying goodbye to all of his friends as they leave the show so he asked Adam Lambert how did he do it. Adam’s response…his eye was on the prize and wasn’t there to make friends. In Iam’s case, he bonds with them recording videos and taught a couple of them a Fijian song which is soooo nice. Same way a big performer is gonna perform in an award show and they put him/her toward at 2 hours 30 mins in a 3 hour show so people are watching the whole damn thing bc that's the main draw.
