I will tell you this... this was MORE than a touching rendition of a James Blunt song. If you look into Iam Tongi, his life, his faith, his work ethic, and most of all... his love for his family, neighbors, community, etc... you will learn he is guided by something bigger and intangible. You could feel the Spirit in the crowd, over the cable, in the Internet. It was pervasive. There are literal angels in the room and his father was among them. We weep in their presence and this music was a cumulation of the whole picture. What are we fighting for? It is all here in front of us... hold their hands and see them through from birth to glorious ascension. Way to go Iam... continue this path despite new found fame.

As a Polynesian (Samoan) we don't ever heal from having that empty space in our lives when we lose someone especially our parents. I lost my beautiful mom when I was 23 years old, the oldest of nine and my youngest sister was only nine years old. My mother was only forty four when she passed away in'81 on Valentine's Day from a brain tumor. This song "monster" has opened up my pain and the emptiness deep down in my soul that I've kept for over forty years, the anger and the pain of her living us so soon when all my siblings were still very much young. This song opened up wounds that was hard to deal with in losing my mother and the hardship that my younger siblings went through with no one to guide them, discipline them and all that a parent does for their children. Listening to Iam singing this song, it brought everything up to the surface that was hard to deal with. My thanks to James Blunt for that song and for Iam for delivering it to our hearts. ❤

My wish from auditions came through for this DUET. It was special & soul crushing. You can notice James Blunt was getting emotional in the beginning as he was shaking even but once he noticed Iam didn't finish his part at 9:32 , he pulled it together to be there for Iam. If both lost it - it would have been over. The big long hug from JAMES at the end and the kiss on the cheek was EVERYTHING.

When I heard James Blunt was in the lineup for the finale I was pretty sure that he and Iam were going to be singing Monsters together. I think I cried harder watching this performance than when I first heard him. My dad passed in 2001 and like you I miss him every day. I’m sorry for your losses. I knew of James Blunt but had never heard Monsters until Iam sang it.

I cried so ugly and softly called out ‘Iam sing for your Dad. Be strong Iam you’re almost there’, when I watched this performance yesterday and I straight away looked for your reaction to it. Love love love your reactions. I played that performance so many times and it still hit me so hard that I’m balling my eyes out! My partner turned to me and said ‘why do you keep watching that if it makes you cry like that?’ I got angry at him, I went to the room and cried so hard and thought of how far this young man has come along. I’m just balling with tears and with plenty much emotions. I, too, loss my dad when I was only 22. He died to liver failure, he was only 57. I went on to finish college, married and with 2 kids. And now have 3 grands which he didn’t get the chance to experience any, meet his grands and great grands. IAM is now a household name in my home. Relevant and totally relatable. ❤

I lost my father recently and I cannot help to break down every time I hear this song. But I think that what gets me the most is being able to identify with Iam's pain. It's hard to lose someone. But when that person is your father and best friend, the hurt intensifies. I am happy for Iam. He will continue to brighten our hearts and ears with his music project. Great reaction!

I have watched this performance about six times today. Cry each time. Iam came into our lives at a time when there has been so much anger and negativity. He is a bright light in our lives. I saw a video a couple days ago of Jelly Roll on the Joe Rogan show. He was telling Joe about “this young kid from Hawaii who has taken Idol by storm since his audition.” Jelly Roll said he would be performing at the finale. He said that if Iam needed help with his recording deal he would have Iam talk with his label. They played Iams audition on this show and both Joe Rogan and Jelly Roll cried. I see Jelly Roll was sitting next to Iams mom during the finale performance.

I relate this song as father and daughter song. I grew up hanging out with my dad. I’m 11 of 13. My first 20 years and the last 3 and a half of his life. The the 3.5 was at a nursing home and the last of it was 1.5 at home. I mainly cared for him 24/7 at home. Right before his passing I talked sitting next to him. Two weeks prior he finally opened his eyes flooded with tears and I told him that we were all doing fine and that he didn’t had to worry. Wiped his eyes and he never opened his eyes again. The day of his passing I noticed in his concha (ear) started getting smoother (started like a pin drop). As I talked I told him that I’m crying not because I was sad instead that I was happy. I thanked him for being our dad, taking care of us and teaching us what we have learned and continuing on. I wasn’t with our mom like I wanted to due to comatose from a severe sepsis but I was home for her service. Still get very emotional when I watch the first video and the performance with James Blunt.

Through this young mans musical performances he has touched the hearts of million across the world. He has reconnected people, he has bought healing to many who were broken. He exemplified the GREATNESS OF GOD in him through his music. He's showing the world what LOVE is. In the polynesian culture music means alot. We don't sing just because, there's a connection within us in our mind, body and spirit. That's just how Iam delivered each week, he connected to his songs selection, he delivered it from his puuwai (heart) He don't need the different vocal range or arrangements, it's a natural thing that comes when you've been bought up in and around a musical enviroment. So many people that they had emotionally wounded from losing loved ones 😭 and even though it's hurt and sad to watch them singing but we're grateful for Iam for taking us with him once again down that path, I've lost my father 20 years ago and it doesn't matter how long that was I honestly feel that my wound of losing him is still fresh. Thank you for helping us ease our pain of losing loved ones.

It's been 24 years since I lost my dad. I think of him everyday n share my stories of him. I still cry of losing him, hearing him and jus knowing that others feel that same love makes me feel okay to let it out. Even if it's been 24 years. It still hurts my heart. Haven't watched American Idol since 2002..I happened to come across the channel that was the first episode. I saw Iam's audition and I was glued to my TV for the whole season. What a beautiful voice..and more importantly a beautiful human being. You can't help but love him.

There is a very special bond between a father and his son that rarely gets the light shined on it. For any son who has a good father that is alive or for those of us who have lost their father, this song sung by Iam and James is a reminder how much we need our dad's. I lost my father when I was 32 and I didn't get a chance to say goodbye when he was concious. I wish I had, but there wasn't time. Now at the age of 47 I look up to him in heaven and pray that he is proud of what I've done. He was the strongest man I ever knew and I miss him greatly. Thank you Iam.

😭😭😭. I didn't make it through.. This one is very heavy. This was even stronger because James is with Iam... They carry those feelings that are very important to them.. and it really flooded my eyes... I always watch and watch his performance and it really touched my soul. Such a touching moment. I lost my Dad in 2014. I feel for Iam being so young when he lost his father. I'm thankful I had 34 years with mine. Still hard.
