I AM ATHLETE | Season 3: Episode 17
Brandon Marshall and D.J. Williams welcome Bun B, Arian Foster, Kendrick Perkins and Lil’ Keke to the show as they discuss Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers, as well as the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to the music industry. #BunB #KendrickPerkins #LilKeke
Arian Foster opens up saying he believes Barry Sanders is the G.O.A.T when it comes to the NFL. The group immediately responds with their opinions starting out with D.J. explaining how Tom Brady is an absolute leader and has the seven rings to back him up. Bun B jokes around and says that D.J. has no idea what kind of battery he is putting in Keke’s back right now since Lil’ Keke is a big Tom Brady fanatic. He says “You’re the energizer bunny right now.”
Brandon asks the group which musical artist is most similar to Tom Brady, as well as Aaron Rodgers. Bun B explains how Tom Brady is most related to Jay Z, while Aaron Rodgers is most similar to Naz. He explains how most new quarterbacks inspire to be Tom Brady, similar to rapper inspiring to be Jay Z. He says Aaron Rodgers is most similar to Naz because he doesn’t love the spotlight and then he goes back in the shadows when he’s off the field.
Bun B shifts the conversation forward and talks about how easy it is nowadays to get your music to the consumers. He explains how Jay Z used the rap to perpetuate other business details that made him a billionaire. The same thing happened to P Diddy. Bun B says that most people would rather be famous, than be rich. Brandon laughs and says that they might need to break down this show and turn it into a Part 2.

Bun B is very level headed in debates and conducts himself well. This was a great episode , everyone was able to get their points and disagree without anyone getting in their feelings as men should at a round table. Even BMarsh took a backseat this episode and did some of his best work moderating.

Kendrick story about LeBron is dead ass true, factssssss... when he got suspended for the hummer and endorsement deals while in high school, one of the games he sat out was in Toledo, Ohio against Scott or Libbey (one of them) LeBron was sitting on the sideline in street clothes eating a bag of fruit and had 2 gallons of water, people screaming his name, he turns and either waves with a fruit in his hand or a whole gallon of water 🤦🏾 it's crazy hearing Kendrick talk about that

I get what Arian is attempting to establish but I think he’s missing one key aspect. The difference (and I believe KeKe was trying to say this) is the NFL is one governing body that a union can negotiate with. In the music industry, there’s millions of governing bodies - from large labels, smaller labels, distribution companies, marketing companies, signing to individual artists, radio, etc. Therefore, it’s impossible for one union to collaborate in efforts against millions of different governing bodies vs the one governing body athletes can bargain with. This is why having a good lawyer, is your only “union”-like option before signing anything.

@christiancampbell893
@christiancampbell893 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheNumbasign2 that’s a good point. I agree on the question, what is the want? I think we all agree on the emphasis of establishing representation - whether by lawyer, union, or both. I still believe it’s slightly more difficult in music than the film industry, due to the extensive variability. Large film companies bought into the idea of becoming unionized. It might be too many nuanced entities to replicate in music It’s worth a try though
@TheNumbasign2
@TheNumbasign2 2 жыл бұрын
@@christiancampbell893 Film has its independent side just like music has. But once the artwork/content hits the main stage / airways you have to be in the screen actors Guild. You have to be. And I’m not for unions of any kind . But it can be done . If everyone can launch on a streaming service. They can be held to the same standards , if there music charts or does a curtain amount of streams. Making them liable for certain dues and eligible for certain benefits.

Great show for starters! Arian has a dream to galvanize brothers and sisters to all move according to the greater vision. I have learned, humans are humans, and there in lies the flawed thinking, but I admire his intent. Bun is what I call a really wise intelligent brother!

I remember the moment when I realized that Arian was done, there was a game where he was battling his ass off and had a great game, and they where just loosing, I could seen it un his eyes that he was the only person out there battling, and he just started walking up and down the sidelines and I knew he was over it, why battle this hard to loose.. he could've been a hall of fame RB on a different team.

Also, it's shows you he didn't have what the Hall of Famers and legends have. They talked about the "It" factor. He didn't have it. He's a different kind of dude, just thinks different. He wasn't meant for the NFL. He didn't want to sacrifice his time, body for a corporation. He talks about being a collective, we work together for each other. Yet like u said, he gave up on his team bc they weren't on his level. He was crazy talented but did he have the leadership skills (like Brady) to bring players up to his level? Fascinating. Hope he becomes a community organizer to put his point of view to good use. We need all different perspectives

Nascar is cool terms of open a new volume of audience but when he began it he forced it down our throats every week so naturally Chan and Fred were like cool bro we ain’t sticking to this but now look.
