I am so grateful I was able to experience many of these tracks via Jónsi's stunning art installation in NYC last week. Sitting in the darkness with my eyes closed in the center of a circle of, what seemed like, hundreds of speakers, I heard and felt these tracks in a way not replicable via my studio speakers. After at least 25 minutes, I left the fist floor exhibit hall with tears streaming down my face. I slowly ascended up the stairs to the second installation for a true synesthetic experience, again with eyes closed, as lights flashed in front of my lids and Jónsi's ethereal voice carried me to other worlds. After ten minutes, I left the room and visited his paintings, which sang to me through hidden speakers behind them. It was clear that Jónsi was translating the beauty of Iceland, the shock and breakdown of volcanic eruption, and the gentle reprieve of nature's rebirth. It was a beautiful metaphor for the way we carry out our lives, grieve, grow, and heal. I'm so grateful to have witnessed this album in such a profound way.

12 years ago I had 6 grand mal seizures back to back which left me in a dark fog of confusion and chaos - it was Jonsi's music (Sigur Ros) that helped to pull me out. Hearing his voice quieted the chaos and brought peace when I could not find it on my own. In the years since, I have not had another grand mal and usually listen to very different music, yet each time I hear his voice I am reminded of the calm he brought when no medication could. I am forever grateful and so happy to hear this album. Tusen tack, Jonsi.

I mean this as a massive compliment; this could have been released as a Sigur Ros album. I has 'that' sound vs. your first two solo albums which were fairly large departures stylistically from your recent Sigur Ros work. I like your first two solo albums a lot, but this tickles my ears and brain the same way Sigur Ros does, and I suppose I like it more for that. Great album, what a pleasant surprise to see this released today. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Valtari was such an underrated album!
@BobGuido3 жыл бұрын
@@Chad-qr7ke I never knew that Valtari was underrated. When I saw the band perform Valtari live in 2013 at Echo Beach in Toronto, they were at peak performance level as musicians. It was the best live show I've seen in my entire life. Jónsi's voice sounded as good as it does on the recording. His pitch and phrasing and dynamics were flawless. That is near impossible given how much energy it takes to sing as he does for two hours. Valtari was the evolution of everything the band and Alex Somers had recorded up until that point in time and it was the last time that Kjartan graced us with his contributions. He has been sorely missed ever since. Kjartan was such a tremendous melodic force behind the sounds on the most loved songs from Sigur Rós. When Jónsi and Kjartan resume working together, the clouds will part and the sun will rise between the two largest volcanoes in Iceland.
@Megaradnomad3 жыл бұрын
@@BobGuido Takk ... has a special place in my heart as it was my introduction to Sigur Ros. Still LOVE that album, but there is something incredibly special about Valtari. Their tour supporting that album was the first time I was able to see Sigur Ros live. Thebarton Theatre in Adelaide, Australia. Was pretty special. I also saw them at Echo Beach in 2017, unfortunately didn't feel it as much as the other shows. Seeing them at Fox Theatre in Detroit 2016 was an incredible experience, but yeah, post Kjartan, so still not quite the same.

Just curious… I’ve had to do ketamine treatments for treatment resistant mental illness and when I do the ketamine infusions I listen to Sigur Ros/Jonsi. Has anyone else tried this? It is difficult to explain but it’s like transcending all boundaries, physical and spiritual, to become everything. I have often felt the most sincere connection to all living. Then the treatment ends but the feelings I get from listening to this music continue to replicate what I felt while on ketamine. It’s completely and utterly beautiful.
