I’m from Berlin and in Germany we use in queer/leftist spaces the term FLINTA*, which in German translates to Women/Femmes, Inter, Nonbinary, Trans and Agender (basically everyone but cis men). We have whole parties for FLINTA* only :) the term is also starting to be established in casual conversations to describe this group :)

Great interview. Have to say, since discovering E.R as a human being that roams this earth possessing an unfathomable amount of talent my brain has been pried open to things/subjects that used to maybe cross my mind once in a while. Even though I'm not part of the queer community, but as someone in medicine I've always understood the importance of language when it comes to treating people, especially those in the queer community because I educate myself and put in the work. Listening to the views and perspectives of those in the community has helped me immensely with patients because I never want someone who is entrusting their health to me to feel uncomfortable. And it's definitely about decolonizing/unlearning things that have been woven into the fabric of our lives since we are born and taken as carved in stone growing up. I always tell people who resist change that change is one of the few things we can count on in life. Human beings are ever evolving and you need to be willing to do the work to accept that some people just do not share your point of view or values and that that's ok but that respecting one’s believes/values/perspective/emotions is the minimum you can do because at the end of the day how other people lives their lives and who they choose to love does not affect your life. I feel like today everything is so hyperpolarizing, people are living in the extremes instead of seeing the beauty that lies in the middle: where growth, communication and a whole spectrum of emotions live and flourish. Representation is so important, especially for the younger people (I too am old since apparently being in your 30s is ancient these days ) and I'm happy to see more role models take up space in social media and the arts being unapologetically themselves, it gives me hope for the future.

In Germany we've got an acronym that kind of describes what you were talking about: FLINTA*. It stands for Frauen (women/females), Lesbians, Intersex people, Nonbinary people, Trans people, Agender people and the asterix for other minority genders. So basically everyone except for cis dudes.
