Have you heard Tommy Körberg sings Dead by April - For Every Step (Official Lyric Video) ft. Tommy Körberg, and I have to say I can't rave enough about Tommy Johansson from Sweden (Sabaton) singing Abbas the winner takes it all. The song is so amazingly original but when Tommy does it, it's extraordinary.

Tommy himself said it was because he held back at rehearsals to save for the actual night but some people think the face was due to irritation because he was going off and not sticking to how the song “should” sound, making it a “competition”(before trying to save face with a smile) Which never really made any sense to me because if you actually listen to the official version(both the English and Swedish the male tones are the same while the female ones are slightly different) then you can clearly hear all of the riffs and runs that Tommy does here are present in both those versions. 🤷‍♀️

Tommy has told that story several times. Celine had been sullen and reserved all day, so he gave her a rose to cheer her up. She didn't even want to sing with Tommy because she thought he sucked, as he didn't bother to make an effort during the rehearsal

They actually competed against each other the very same year that Celine Dion won the Eurovision. Tommy Körberg sang the song "Stad i Ljus" (City in Light) for Sweden and Celine sang "Ne partez pas sans moi" (Don't leave without me) for Switzerland. Tommy did that performance with advanced strep throat..

Tommy was the original voice in Chess but not Beauty And The Beast. There used to be a bar in Sweden that a number of legendary Swedes used just for jamming with their very informal blues band once a week. So I often had the pleasure of hearing him live (together with people that only Swedes will know like Louise Hoffsten, Mats Ronander and others).

I think this performance was around the time the movie came out in the theaters here in sweden to do some kinda of commercial for it, but I could be wrong about that. The two of them also competed against eachother in eurovision 1988, sadly Tommy wasn’t able to do that competition at his best since he was sick, if you find a clip from the swedish melodifestival 1988 with him & compare it to a clip from eurovision that year you can hear the difference in how he sings the song. I don’t know why he didn’t sing his full potential in practis for this performance, there is many different stories about it. Some say he tried to rest his voice other say he wanted to put Celine in her place because she behaved like a diva other say that this was him acting like a diva, either way it was a great performance from both of them.

To be fair, Celine is a diva who don't want to share the spotlight and Tommy was obviously teasing her (or "provoking with love" - also; hence the surprise rose) If the intention were to outshine her, he wouldn't kept going (and that would've been childish and silly), but instead he toned it down again, underlining in was all in good fun. He's also an actor on stage and movies.

He was used to singing this song with Sofia Källgren, and she could very much hold her own against him. A different tone in comparison to Céline Dion, but still a very good singer. And he did the same in the official version of the duet in Swedish. Search for "Tommy Körberg Sofia Källgren Skönheten och Odjuret". Long story short: Céline wouldn't have been caught off-guard if Disney had provided her with a 4-minute video of the official Swedish version. Or maybe they gave it to her but she never watched it.

well he undermind in her in a way. they had rehearsed it in a certain way and then he ad libs, which in itself is not an uncommon thing of for musicians, BUT its propbably not what they "agreed" upon since it wasnt rehearsed in that way. So I think Celinces facial expression is probably not so much a shock over Tommy Körbergs singing capabilites, but more that he put her on a spot when not doing as they had rehearsed. That are my thoughts about it.
